It's Ledecky vs. McIntosh in the 800 freestyle, the centerpiece of the world championships
The race is one of six finals on Saturday, but it overshadows everything else on Day 7. The championships wrap up on Sunday.
Ledecky
of the United States holds the world record (8 minutes, 04.12 seconds) set earlier this year. The 28-year-old American has dominated the distance for a decade and has already won gold in the 1,500 in Singapore. She also has a bronze in the 400.
Ledecky, 28, has won nine Olympic gold medals — the most decorated female in history — and her first gold was in 2012 in the London Olympics in the 800.
McIntosh
is an 18-year-old Canadian. She's already won three golds in Singapore and she swam just a second off Ledecky's time earlier this year. If anyone is to dethrone Ledecky, it's McIntosh.
This would be McIntosh's fourth gold as she goes for five individual golds in the worlds, a feat only achieved the legendary American swimmer Michael Phelps.
The other five finals are: the women's 50 butterfly; the men's 50 free; the women's 200 backstroke; the men's 100 butterfly; and mixed 4x100 freestyle relay.
The Americans and Australians have each won five gold medals through six days. The Americans lead in overall medals with 20, although their performance
has been lackluster
and slowed after much of the team came down with a case of
'acute gastroenteritis'
in training camp in Thailand.

He was a major part of the Commanders' NFC title game run that marked the franchise's best season since winning the Super Bowl in 1991. He is currently attending meetings and walkthroughs while rehabbing an ankle injury that's been a nagging issue since late in the season. 'I try to avoid judging it,' Quinn said. 'I recognize players are trying to set themselves and their families up, so I try not to put myself in that spot. It's too easy to say, 'Man, if I had that much I would be this or that.' So I don't go there. I try to support him as best I can, but we don't discuss the finance part of things.'

India lead up to 281 after Jaiswal hundred at the Oval
LONDON (AP) — Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal reached another century and was dropped again as India's lead over England reached 281 runs by tea on day three Saturday of the fifth test at the Oval. Jaiswal made 118 after he was dropped three times. Ravindra Jadeja was on 26 with Dhruv Jurel on 25 and India was 304-6 in its second innings. India added 115 runs in the middle session for the loss of captain Shubman Gill, Karun Nair and Jaiswal. Gill was out to the first delivery after lunch, plumb lbw to an in-swinger by Gus Atkinson. With 11 in his last bat of the series, Gill finished with 754 runs, passing Graham Gooch's 752 in 1990 for the most by any batter in an India-England series. In the same over, Nair's index finger was crunched by Josh Tongue and it was taped up. But Nair, in obvious discomfort, never settled. He was dropped on 12 and eventually out for 17, his glove nicking behind Atkinson's extra bounce. By then, Jaiswal already had his hundred, his second of the series, fourth against England, and sixth of his career. He turned his 127th ball faced to point and was celebrating before he ran the single; leaping, running, and shaping his fingers into a heart. Jaiswal played frantically for his 51 on Friday night and was dropped on 20 and 40. He was composed on Saturday, happy in the morning to let nightwatchman Akash Deep cut loose for a career-best 66 with 12 boundaries in their third-wicket stand of 107. But as the day clouded over, England's seam attack, depleted of the injured Chris Woakes, discovered some nasty movement and Atkinson and Tongue came alive in the afternoon. Jaiswal used up 164 balls and hit 14 boundaries and, on Friday evening, two sixes. But he also used his luck to put India in a position to give England a tough chase.
