Lady Vols basketball schedule 2025-26: Non-conference games in Kim Caldwell's second season

Yahoo4 days ago
Lady Vols basketball announced its nonconference schedule for the 2025-26 season on Aug. 1, which only includes five home games.
Tennessee will play five nonconference games on the road and two at neutral sites. Including SEC play, the Lady Vols will 14 games against teams that made the 2025 NCAA Tournament. That also includes every team from the Final Four – Tennessee will play UCLA, UConn and South Carolina on the road and host Texas.
"Including our conference opponents, our schedule includes the top six teams and 10 of the top 20-ranked programs in the early preseason polls," Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell said in a school release. "We have our work cut out for us, but I believe our challenging non-conference opponents will better prepare us for what we're going to see in the Southeastern Conference.
"We're a little out of balance in terms of home and away ranked opponents, and that's something that takes some time to even out. We'll continue to work on it going forward, but I think this year it will allow us to really test our players and get them ready for conference play."
The nonconference slate took a step up in strength of schedule from Caldwell's first season. Tennessee only faced three power conference opponents during the 2024-25 nonconference schedule, and it will face five during the 2025-26 season. UT also only played one true nonconference road game last season.
The Lady Vols will open the season Nov. 4 against NC State in Greensboro, North Carolina. They will also make their return to the Women's Champions Classic in Brooklyn, New York, on Dec. 20 where they'll face Louisville. UT's fifth power conference opponent in nonconference play is at Stanford on Dec. 3 as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.
Tennessee has 10 matchups with teams in ESPN's Top 25 including SEC play. South Carolina is the highest-ranked team in ESPN's projected rankings at No. 1 and UConn is the highest-ranked nonconference opponent at No. 2.
The nonconference slate includes four matchups with in-state opponents. The Lady Vols will face MTSU and UT Martin on the road and Belmont and ETSU at home. Tennessee will travel to Belmont next season and host MTSU in the final game of a four-game series.

Teddy Bridgewater won't coach HS alma mater, reportedly planning another NFL comeback

Teddy Bridgewater will not coach high school football this coming season. Instead, the veteran quarterback is eyeing an NFL return, according to The Portal 305 and The Palm Beach Post. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Bridgewater, 32, led the Miami Northwestern Bulls to the Florida Class 3A state championship last season and then unretired to join the Detroit Lions. He served as Jared Goff's backup and did not appear in a regular-season game. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Bridgewater is expected to visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday and sign there. Last month, Bridgewater was suspended from Miami Northwestern after providing impermissible benefits to his players. The suspension stemmed from a post Bridgewater put on Facebook on July 7 where he revealed he covered Uber rides, meals and recovery services for his players last season. He asked fans to donate and cover those expenses this year so they wouldn't have to come directly from his pocket. That drew the attention of the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA). An official with the FHSAA, Kelvin Richardson, told Rivals those allegations were sent to Miami Northwestern and that the FHSAA are working to gain more information. Despite the ban, Bridgewater said he was not going anywhere and would "volunteer from the bleachers" like he'd done in the past. Bridgewater played nine NFL seasons with six teams before retiring after 2023 season, which he spent with the Lions. He threw for 15,120 yards and 75 touchdowns in 79 career games after being a first-round pick out of Louisville in 2014.

Fox Sees Q4 Profit Rise on Fox News, Tubi Results

Fox Corp. said high ratings at Fox News Channel and growing advertiser interest at its Tubi streaming service bolstered performance in its fiscal fourth quarter, with the company's focus on live programming, sports and news shielding it from some of the challenges its rivals are facing in an era when more consumers are using on-demand broadband for more of their video entertaiment. The owner of the Fox broadcast network and Fox Sports said revenue in the period rose 6%, or $195 million, to $3.29 billion, largely on the strength of advertiser interest in Tubi and Fox News. Ad revenues rose 7% during the period, Fox said, while affiliate revenue rose 3%. More from Variety Fox Corp. Fox said its fourth quarter net income came to $717 million, or $1.57 per share, compared with $319 million, or $.68 per share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding items, Fox reported adjusted earnings of $581 million, or $1.27 per share. While Disney, NBCUniversal and others have put many of their resources toward building out new streaming venues, Fox has maintained a hold in the linear world, still focused on drawing large, simultaneous audiences to everything from IndyCar racing to Greg Gutfeld's 10 p.m. program on Fox News Channel each weekday night. To be sure, Fox has launched streaming outlets, including Tubi and Fox Nation, but they are largely seen as complementary to the company's linear outlets — not a substitute for them. Those dynamics may be set to change. Fox intends to unveil a new streaming outlet, Fox One, in the next few weeks. The service will make its linear sports and news offerings — as well as other content — available via streaming, though Murdoch has said the company's intent is to court audiences who do not already have subscriptions to cable or satellite services and otherwise might not watch Fox programming. Revenue from Fox's cable networks rose 7%, or $94 million,. to $1.53 billion, owing to a $20 million hike in affiliate fees and a $50 million increase in advertising. Fox said it also saw $24 million in revenue from other sources, including Fox Nation subscriptions. Revenue from traditional TV operations rose 6%, or $92 million, to $1.71 billion. Fox said ad revenue rose $21 million, citing 'continued digital growth' at Tubi. Affiliate fees rose $29 million during the period.
