OnePlus AI revealed alongside Plus Key ahead of OnePlus 13s launch in India
OnePlus says that it is going to be launching a host of new features under the OnePlus AI brand. Some of these include OnePlus AI Voice Scribe, which lets you record, summarise, and even translate calls and meetings within messaging and online meeting apps.
India is also getting a OnePlus AI Call Assistant. On the OnePlus 13, the OnePlus dialer will now feature support for automatic call summaries and real-time call translation during calls, which could be handy to get rid of language misunderstandings.
And then there is going to be a translation feature, which essentially brings all translation capabilities, including text, live voice, camera-based, and screen translation,into a single app. And then there is also AI Search, AI Reframe, and AI Best Face 2.0.
At the same time, OnePlus has also partnered with Google and now says that OnePlus is going to have better synergy with Gemini, with Google Gemini working across OnePlus' own apps, including the OnePlus Notes app, OnePlus Clock app, as well as other Google apps. Also, Gemini Live with camera and screen sharing will also let users see what is being captured by the camera and what is on the screen.
We have seen new hardware buttons debuting on various smartphones. Apple debuted the Action Button with the iPhone 15 Pro last year, and now all iPhone 16 series models feature the Action Button. Other manufacturers also followed suit. And now OnePlus has also jumped on the bandwagon and introduced its new button, which it is calling the Plus Key. OnePlus says that this is a customisable hardware button that is first going to debut on the OnePlus 13S, which launches in just a few weeks.
After the OnePlus 13S, the brand says it is going to be present on all OnePlus smartphones launching this year. The company calls it an "evolution of the OnePlus Alert Slider," which has been present on OnePlus devices for years now. It facilitates functions like switching sound profiles, launching the camera, starting translation, or starting recordings.
In addition, the key also brings features like AI Plus Mind, which lets you quickly save and recall details on your screen. This, in a way, is similar to an essential key feature that Nothing debuted with its earphones. Regarding this functionality, OnePlus says that when users come across information that they would like to access later, this could be a schedule, event details, reservations, or listings, they can simply store or capture it by pressing the Plus Key. Or, they can swipe up with three fingers to do this as well.
After this, the OnePlus AI Plus Mind will save this on-screen content to a dedicated Mind Space, so that they can come back to and access it. The feature will also be able to contextually analyse content, including being able to extract schedule details from an image and then add them to your calendar, and more.
OnePlus says that AI Plus Mind will be present on the OnePlus 13S, and it will be available for the in rest of the OnePlus 13 series as well, after a future software OTA update.

Google is taking another big step in putting artificial intelligence to work for everyday tasks. The tech giant has now made its AI-powered calling feature available to everyone in the US through Search. With this new option, you can ask Google's AI to call local businesses — like pet groomers, auto shops, or dry cleaners — to check prices or availability, so you don't have to pick up the phone yourself. The feature first began testing in January and is aimed at simplifying small but often time-consuming tasks. Now, when you search for certain services on Google, you'll see a 'have AI check pricing' option under the business listing. Once selected, Google's AI will ask you a few details, like your pet's breed or the service you need, your preferred time, and whether you'd like updates by email or text. According to Robby Stein, vice president of product for Google Search, the AI uses Google's Duplex technology combined with Gemini to handle the calls. 'Gemini, with Duplex tech, will be able to make calls on your behalf,' Stein told The Verge. 'The calling tool will announce itself as an AI from Google trying to get information on behalf of a customer and get your info and details conveyed so that you don't have to spend all of this time doing this.' Once the AI gets what it needs, it will send you a text update about prices or available slots. This tool could be especially useful for younger people who, as studies show, often dislike making phone calls. Business owners who prefer not to receive AI calls can easily opt out in their Google profile settings. To manage usage, Google's AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers get 'higher limits' for how often they can use the feature. Alongside this wider rollout, Google is also experimenting with its more advanced Gemini 2.5 Pro model in AI Mode — an AI-powered search tool that launched across the US in May. Users with AI Pro and AI Ultra subscriptions who've joined the AI Mode test in Google Labs can switch to Gemini 2.5 Pro, which Stein says excels at 'advanced reasoning, math, and code.' Google is also testing Deep Search within AI Mode, which can build detailed reports about a query by reasoning, asking additional questions, and double-checking its results through multi-step searches. This deeper layer of AI search is another sign of how Google is expanding its AI ecosystem to save users time and effort in daily tasks.

OpenAI lists Google as cloud partner amid growing demand for computing capacity
OpenAI has included Alphabet's Google Cloud among its suppliers to meet escalating demands for computing capacity, according to an updated list published on the ChatGPT maker's website. The artificial-intelligence giant also relies on services from Microsoft, Oracle , and CoreWeave . The deal with Google, finalized in May after months of discussions, was first reported by Reuters citing a source in June. The arrangement underscores how massive computing demands to train and deploy AI models are reshaping the competitive dynamics in AI, and marks OpenAI's latest move to diversify its compute sources beyond its major supporter Microsoft, including its high-profile Stargate data centre project. Earlier this year, OpenAI partnered with SoftBank and Oracle on the $500 billion Stargate infrastructure program and signed multi-billion-dollar agreements with CoreWeave to bolster computing capacity. The partnership with Google is the latest of several maneuvers made by OpenAI to reduce its dependency on Microsoft whose Azure cloud service had served as the ChatGPT maker's exclusive data centre infrastructure provider until January. Google and OpenAI discussed an arrangement for months but were previously blocked from signing a deal due to OpenAI's lock-in with Microsoft, a source had told Reuters.

Google is rolling out some big changes to how Search works, and AI is right at the centre of it all.
