Q1 FY26 company results: Tejas Networks, Nelco, Rallis India, and Sambhv Steel Tubes will release their earnings report for the April-June quarter
New Delhi
HCL Technologies, Ola Electric, and Tata Technologies will be among 25 companies to release their earnings report for the first quarter (Q1) of the financial year 2025-26 (FY26).
Other companies releasing their performance report for the April-June quarter include Tejas Networks, Nelco, Rallis India, and Sambhv Steel Tubes.
HCL Tech Q1 preview
HCL Technologies is expected to report a slight dip in both revenue and net profit for the first quarter, largely due to seasonal weakness and slower performance in its services and products segments. Analysts polled by Business Standard estimate a marginal 0.02 per cent quarter-on-quarter decline in revenue to ₹30,240.28 crore. Net profit is projected to drop by 3.76 per cent sequentially to ₹4,145.13 crore, and by 2.65 per cent year-on-year. The decline is attributed to seasonal productivity resets and pressure on the services business, which is also likely to impact the company's profit margins.
Market overview July 14
Indian equity benchmark indices closed lower on Friday, July 1, following a largely range-bound week, as investor sentiment weakened due to disappointing earnings from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). The IT major's weaker-than-expected Q1 results triggered a sell-off in technology stocks. Additionally, escalating global trade tensions weighed on markets after US President Donald Trump imposed fresh tariffs on Canadian imports. The BSE Sensex declined by 689.81 points or 0.83 per cent to close at 82,500.47, while the Nifty50 fell 205.4 points or 0.81 per cent to settle at 25,149.85. Broader markets also ended in the red, with the Nifty MidCap index down 0.88 per cent and the Nifty SmallCap index slipping 1.02 per cent.
Today, July 14, markets are expected to open on a cautious note, influenced by both domestic and global factors. Key triggers include India's June inflation data (CPI and WPI), HCLTech's Q1 earnings, and developments in the global trade landscape, particularly following Trump's 30 per cent tariffs on the European Union and Mexico. Additionally, investors will watch for China's June trade data, trends in institutional investments, and activity in the primary market. Broader global cues also remain weak.

EAM seeks de-escalation, fair trade with China, hails progress in relationship

NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar's first visit to China in six years, amid the thawing of Sino-India ties, saw him pressing Beijing to further address border issues, including through de-escalation, while also urging China to avoid restrictive trade measures. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now In a meeting with his counterpart Wang Yi, Jaishankar acknowledged "good progress" in efforts to normalise the relationship saying it's a result of the resolution of friction along the border and both sides' ability to maintain peace and tranquillity. "This is the fundamental basis for mutual strategic trust and for smooth development of bilateral relations. It is now incumbent on us to address other aspects related to the border, including de-escalation," said the minister. The Indian side said both countries agreed to take "practical steps", including travel to each other's country and direct flight connectivity, for facilitating people-to-people exchanges. India and China had resolved the almost five-year-old military standoff in eastern Ladakh last October. Need to avoid restrictive trade measures: EAM India and China had resolved the almost five-year-old military standoff in eastern Ladakh last Oct, leading to a bilateral meeting between PM Modi and President Xi Jinping on the margins of the Brics summit in Kazan. Jaishankar is in China for the SCO foreign ministers' meeting and Modi himself is expected to visit the country for the summit of the Eurasian bloc in September. Taking note of the positive direction in ties since the Modi-Xi meeting, Jaishankar sought a "far-seeing approach" to the relationship, saying it is the responsibility of both sides to maintain that momentum. In his meeting with Wang, Jaishankar also gave vent to India's concerns about China's export controls that may adversely affect domestic manufacturing here. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He said that as neighbouring nations and major economies in the world today, there are various facets and dimensions of their bilateral ties. "Measures towards normalising our people-to-people exchanges can certainly foster mutually beneficial cooperation. It is also essential in this context that restrictive trade measures and roadblocks are avoided," he said in his opening remarks, expressing hope that he and Wang would continue their "strategic communication" not just on the margins of multilateral events but each other's countries. Ahead of the SCO meeting on Tuesday, Jaishankar touched upon the issue of terrorism too as he reminded Wang that the primary mandate of the grouping is to combat terrorism, separatism and extremism. "This is a shared concern and India hopes that zero tolerance for terrorism will be strongly upheld," he said, while backing China's SCO presidency and efforts to ensure good outcomes. In the meeting, Jaishankar also underlined the need for cooperation on trans-border rivers, including resumption of provision of hydrological data by the Chinese side. The minister also told Wang that stable and constructive ties between India and China are not only to their benefit, but that of the world as well. "This is best done by handling relations on the basis of mutual respect, interest and sensitivity," he said, recalling the agreement earlier that differences should not become disputes, or competition turn into conflict. He said that on this foundation, both sides can continue to develop ties along a positive trajectory. He also thanked China for allowing the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra to resume after a gap of five years.

"Tough Guy, Fooled A Lot Of People": Trump Blasts Putin As Ukraine War Intensifies

Washington: Ever since his political rise a decade ago, Donald Trump has sung the praises of Vladimir Putin -- the Russian president was a "strong leader" who, perhaps more important, would often say "very good things" about him. With his announcement Monday of new arms for Ukraine via Europe and tariff threats on Russia, Trump's bromance with Putin has hit a new low -- but it may not have run its course. Trump, who had vowed to end the Ukraine war within a day of returning to the White House, said he was "disappointed" in Putin, who has kept attacking Ukraine as if the leaders' telephone conversations "didn't mean anything." "I go home, I tell the first lady, 'You know, I spoke to Vladimir today, we had a wonderful conversation. She said, 'Oh really? Another city was just hit.'" "I don't want to say he's an assassin, but he's a tough guy. It's been proven over the years. He's fooled a lot of people," Trump said. Trump quickly rejected that he was among those fooled and again insisted that the 2022 invasion of Ukraine was the fault of his predecessor Joe Biden, who championed a hard line on Russia. Brandishing his favorite weapon, Trump gave Russia 50 days to comply before facing 100 percent tariffs on countries that purchase from Russia, but stopped short of backing a bill before Congress for up to 500 percent tariffs. Russia's own trade with the United States has slowed down a trickle. Trump had "promised that he could get Putin to the negotiating table, and he has failed to do that," said Heather Conley, a former State Department policymaker on Russia now at the conservative American Enterprise Institute. His tariff threat "shows frustration that he has failed to do it, but I don't see it as a big policy change," she said. - The great deal-maker? - Trump stunned European allies on February 28 when he publicly berated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House, telling him he was ungrateful for billions of dollars in weapons under Biden. Trump then briefly held up new military and intelligence. For the US president, a transactional-minded businessman, Putin committed a key offense -- undermining Trump's self-image as a deal-maker. "For six months, President Trump tried to entice Putin to the table. The attacks have gone up, not down," Senator Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally who has led the push for tough new sanctions on Russia, told CBS News show "Face The Nation." "One of the biggest miscalculations Putin has made is to play Trump," Graham said. Yet Trump has repeatedly shown a willingness to trust Putin, despite firm warnings from within the US government. Most famously, he sided with Putin over US intelligence at a 2018 news conference after they met in Helsinki after the Russian president denied meddling to support Trump in his first election. For observers of Putin, the longest-serving leader in Moscow since Stalin, there was never much chance he would accept compromise on Ukraine or work with the West. Putin has rued the demise of Russia's influence with the fall of the Soviet Union as a historic calamity and rejected the idea that Ukraine has its own historical identity. With Russia making small but steady gains on the battlefield and bringing in North Korean troops, Putin has put his entire country on war footing, Conley said. "The Kremlin has thrown everything into this," she said. "President Putin believes that this is just going to be a slow erosion of Ukraine's position and the West's position, and he will win this conflict on its own merits," she said. Mark Montgomery, a retired US rear admiral and Senate policy aide, said Putin believed in what has been referred to as TACO -- Trump Always Chickens Out. Putin "thought he could take it to the limit each time, and he found out he was wrong," said Montgomery, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a hawkish research group. "I don't think this stops until Putin feels either weapons system pain or economic pain that he cannot sustain." Dharmavaram silk sari of A.P. bags ODOP National Award

The famed Dharmavaram silk sari of Sri Sathya Sai district has bagged the 'One District One Product (ODOP) – 2024 National Award' in recognition of the State's achievements in the traditional handloom sector. The award instituted by the Centre's initiative to promote indigenous artisans and their products was conferred in New Delhi on Monday. State Minister for Handlooms and Textiles S. Savitha and Sri Sathya Sai District Collector T.S. Chetan received the award from Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Piyush Goyal at an event held at Bharat Mandapam. Minister Savitha felt that the award highlighted the artistic excellence of the handloom sector in Andhra Pradesh and further enhanced the global visibility of Indian culture. 'It is a moment of pride for Andhra Pradesh and will further strengthen the cottage industries and livelihoods of the artisans,' she said. Mr. Chetan termed the recognition as 'a milestone for weavers of Sathya Sai district'. The gesture would greatly help the artisans of Dharmavaram and create greater market and employment avenues, he said.
