All-American Bowl quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski enters transfer portal
Wake Forest redshirt freshman quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski entered the NCAA transfer portal Wednesday, the first day of the spring transfer window that goes through April 25.
Hecklinski appeared in one game for the Demon Deacons as a true freshman in 2024. He played three snaps against North Carolina on Nov. 16, 2024. Wake Forest had a head coaching change with Dave Clawson retiring on Dec. 16, 2024.
Hecklinski played in the 2023 All-American Bowl and is from Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia. He was named 2023 GPB Georgia Offensive Player of the Year and 2023 MaxPreps Georgia Player of the Year.
In 2023, Hecklinski completed 201-of-309 passing attempts for 3,835 passing yards, 50 touchdowns and six interceptions in 14 games.
During his junior season he completed 194-of-305 pass attempts, for 3,520 yards, 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Hecklinski earned 2022 Georgia 5-AAAAA Player of the Year, 2022 Cobb County Offensive Player of the Year and 2022 11Alive Offensive Player of the Year honors.
His father, Randy Hecklinski, played quarterback at Bowling Green from 1990-95, and his uncle, Jeff Hecklinski, played quarterback at Illinois and Western Illinois.

The Mets closer unleashed a changeup in his Monday appearance against the Braves. Advertisement It's a pitch Díaz has toyed with while playing catch but hadn't developed enough confidence in to use during a game. His verdict? The pitch still needs work. Díaz's changeup (he threw only one) registered 95 mph — essentially not much different than his fastball. Ideally, Díaz would throw his changeup in the low 90s. 'I wanted to see how it would look in a game,' Díaz said Saturday before the Mets' 9-2 loss to the Pirates at PNC Park in which the Mets players called a team meeting after the ugly defeat. 'It didn't look good, because I threw it 100 percent. When I throw it playing catch, I throw it maybe 60 percent so the movement is way better. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Díaz, who did not pitch in Saturday's loss, throws his fastball 51.8 percent of the time, according to Statcast. He's utilized his slider on 48 percent of occasions, with the one changeup mixed in. Why add the changeup? 'It will make [hitters] think more,' Díaz said. 'But I have got to make sure I have a good changeup. If I don't feel it's good enough, I will stick with my other two pitches.' Advertisement It's hard to argue against what has worked to this point for the right-hander, who entered Saturday with a 1.99 ERA in 32 appearances for the Mets this season. He was also 16-for-17 in save opportunities. Díaz's big first half has positioned him as a possibility to represent the team in the All-Star Game. His lone selection for the Mets came in 2022 — but he didn't appear in the game. That is one goal I have before the start of the season, so if I make it, I will be really happy.' Díaz had a slow start to the season, pitching to a 4.50 ERA in April. But he's been a different pitcher over the past two months — entering Saturday he had allowed only one earned run over his previous 20 appearances for a 0.41 ERA. 'My first month wasn't that good, but after that, I started feeling better,' Díaz said. 'I am commanding my spots really good. I walked too many people in that first month and I think that was the main thing, throwing strikes.' Díaz's strikeout rate this season is 36.8 percent. Even so, Díaz isn't complaining. Using a series of trades, the Lakers moved up in the draft from No. 55 and ended up with a player who could conceivably help them immediately. But the team's good fortunes didn't end there. Following the conclusion of the NBA Draft, the Lakers managed to sign Eric Dixon, as per Shams Charania of ESPN. Even though Dixon signed a two-way deal, is spot on the Lakers' opening night roster isn't guaranteed. With two-way deals not counting against the salary cap, NBA teams often opt to rotate players even before the start of the regular season. What is safe to say is that Dixon will likely get to play alongside Thiero during summer league in Las Vegas next month. Dixon was the NCAA's leading scorer last season at 23.3 points per game. He was an AP Third Team All-American and an NABC Third Team All-American. In today's day and age of the transfer portal, Dixon was somewhat of a revelation, staying at Villanova for all five of his seasons of college basketball eligibility. By his sophomore season, he was regular in the starting lineup. In addition to Dixon's nation-leading points per game, he also averaged 5.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists with splits of 45.1 percent shooting from the field, 40.7 percent shooting from the three-point line and 81.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line. Advertisement Last season, the Lakers had Christian Koloko, Trey Jemison and Jordan Goodwin on two-way contracts. Goodwin eventually earned a standard contract in time for the playoffs. Should Dixon remain on the roster by the start of the season, he will likely get plenty of live game reps in the G League with the South Bay Lakers. According to the Associated Press, Harbaugh and Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel have been added to a class-action lawsuit targeting Weiss; who was indicted for hacking into the accounts of thousands of college athletes in search of intimate photos and other scandalous information. The complaint alleges that Harbaugh and others in the Wolverines' athletic department knew of Weiss' behavior and still allowed him to work on the staff. "The university's delay in taking meaningful protective action until after a high-stakes game sends a clear message: Student welfare was secondary," attorney Parker Stinar said. Advertisement "Had Harbaugh implemented basic oversight of his staff, plaintiffs and the class would have been protected against predators such as Weiss," the amended lawsuit stated. "Instead, Weiss was a highly compensated asset that was promoted by and within the football program, from which position he was able to, and did, target female student athletes."
