Jermaine Jenas makes feelings clear about the BBC – 'They lie to your face'
Jermaine Jenas has hit out at the BBC, accusing them of dishonesty towards their employees. The former footballer, 42, was dismissed from the corporation last August due to improper conduct.
Jenas, who used to share presenting duties with Alex Jones on The One Show, admitted to sending lewd messages to two former colleagues at the BBC. In addition to losing his BBC role, the former England midfielder saw his representation with a talent agency terminated.
His 14-year marriage to Ellie Penfold also ended as their separation was publicly acknowledged in March. After keeping a low profile for four months, Jenas is gradually stepping back into the spotlight.
During his appearance on The Dressing Room Podcast with ex-Chelsea players Carlton Cole, Joe Cole and Wayne Bridge, Jenas compared the worlds of football and television.
He said: "I don't think there's been a footballer that has gone on a day-time, evening live television slot and presented in an entertainment space.
"It was crazy, I think that side of it was strange if I'm totally honest with you. I think what you realise when you go into television is the football world is very different because we are naturally competitive.
"Also, I've always been the type of person that's very much, 'If I'm not doing something right, just tell me,' because it's like that in training. If I'm not playing, I go knock on the manager's door, 'What am I not doing?'
"'You're going out too much, you're not working hard enough, you're not in the gym enough,' right, I'm going to do all those things and then I want to be playing, it's simple."
He spoke candidly about the cutthroat nature of the television industry, revealing that gossiping and backstabbing are commonplace.
Jenas claimed that he experienced this firsthand during his time on The One Show, where he worked with various stand-in presenters. "Television is not like that, they just talk behind your back," he revealed (via Wales Online).
"Everybody in television would just lie to your face. When I was a main presenter on the show, sometimes when Alex Jones wouldn't be working because she was having children at the time, I was working with various female presenters.
"We'd come off air and they'd go, 'Oh did you like her JJ', I'm like, 'Yeah she's really good, it's her first time, she's done really well.' And then I'd just see them talking c*** about them going, 'Yeah she's not coming back.'"
Almost a year after leaving the BBC, Jenas continues to work as a contributor on talkSPORT and has launched his own podcast 'Let Me Tell You Something with Derek and JJ' alongside boxing star Derek Chisora.

There have been several adaptations of Charlotte Brontë's famous 1847 novel Jane Eyre, but one in particular has left fans raving. The BBC's adaptation of Jane Eyre follows the early life of the titular character, who is raised as a poor relation in the household of her aunt, Mrs. Reed. Jane receives cruel treatment from her aunt and cousins and is put into an orphanage. When she is old enough to work, she is hired by the housekeeper of Thornfield Hall, Mrs. Fairfax, to be a governess for young Adèle (Cosima Littlewood) at the country estate. However, when she becomes entangled with the brooding master of Thornfield Hall, Edward Fairfax Rochester, his dark past threatens to destroy their relationship. The four-episode show, which hit screens in 2006, is directed by Susanna White and written by Sandy Welch, the Express reports. Ruth Wilson stars as Jane while Toby Stephens portrays Edward. The cast also features Lorraine Ashbourne, Pam Ferris and Andrew Buchan. The BBC series was a hit with fans and dominated the 2007 award season, scooping up a BAFTA and three Primetime Emmy Awards. Jane Eyre currently holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It is based on Charlotte Brontë's book, which is widely considered to be one of the greatest novels of all time. Complex murder mystery series hailed as 'breathless whodunnit' comes to Disney+
Described as a "breathless whodunit," the 2019 series Dublin Murders arrives on Disney+ giving viewers a new opportunity to watch into the complex mysterious murder series. Disney+ has just added the highly praised BBC crime drama Dublin Murders to its streaming platform, giving viewers in the UK a new opportunity to dive into the gripping eight-part series that previously left fans hooked. Starring Killian Scott and Sarah Greene, the series is based on the first two novels of Tana French's Dublin Murder Squad series, In the Woods and The Likeness. Described as a "breathless whodunnit," the story follows detectives Rob Reilly (Scott) and Cassie Maddox (Greene) as they investigate the disturbing murder of a young girl on the outskirts of Dublin. The case proves to be extremely close to home for Rob, who as a child was the lone survivor of a mysterious incident in the same woods, where two other children vanished and were never found . As the investigation progresses, Rob is forced to confront repressed memories and a potential link between the current case and his own traumatic past, building intense psychological tension throughout the series. Meanwhile, Cassie is pulled into a chillingly personal twist when the body of Lexie Madison is discovered, a woman who not only looks identical to her, but who had been living under an alias Cassie once used in a past undercover mission. The victims are seemingly unrelated, but are knitted together by powerful shared themes." Originally released in 2019 on BBC One and Starz, Dublin Murders was created and written by Sarah Phelps. It received widespread critical acclaim and holds a high 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers can now stream all eight episodes on Disney+ with a subscription as well as BBC iPlayer for free. Critics praise the drama for its suspenseful storytelling and complex characters. The Daily Telegraph wrote: "After eight episodes, countless plot twists and even more anxiously puffed cigarettes, the knotty Irish crime thriller reached its compelling conclusion." While The Independent called the series "unusually inventive," and the London Evening Standard stated it was better than most, writing: "Murders are bad everywhere. Dublin Murders, though, the new BBC crime drama by Sarah Phelps? Very good. In fact, better than many crime dramas." Additionally The Guardian described it as a "tasty slice of cut-and-come-again cake." Fans have also shared their own reviews on the show on Rotten Tomatoes. Where The Broom Cupboard's Andy Crane is now and unrecognisable new look
TV presenter Andy Crane rose to fame when he first appeared on CBBC children's show The Broom Cupboard in 1986. Despite leaving TV, he is still enjoying a sucessful career in the public eye Popular presenter Andy Crane is best known for his debut on children's TV programme The Broom Cupboard which is 39 years old - but what is the TV personality doing now? Andy, now 61, has been brightening up people's days on Greatest Hits Radio since 2019 and he looks very different from his Broom Cupboard days. He first appeared on TV in 1986, taking over from Phillip Schofield on BBC's Broom. The show, which helped launch the careers of Andi Peters, Toby Anstis and Zoe Ball, featured stars in a control desk room as the presenters introduced the programs. The 61-year-old, who was one of the most memorable presenters on show, was just 29 at the time and worked alongside puppet Gordon, who went on to join him on Going Live! the next year. He continued with Broom until 1990 and then featured on major music show Top of the Pops. He was also the face of Bad Influence! and Violet Berlin in the 90s. Started there as a tea boy in 1981 and did my first show in 1983 which means I've now been doing this for 35 years." Andy, who was born in the seaside town of Morecambe, Lancashire, presents three hours of the best songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s on Greatest Hits Radio, including The Top 10 at 10 and Midnight Music Marathon. Luckily for his fans, he also appears on radiowaves on weekday afternoons - featuring the most groovy disco tunes for Greatest Hits Radio 70s. He says his listeners will hear: "Great music naturally and plenty of laughing." Earlier this year, the presenter revealed what he loves about his job the most: "Being invited into people's homes, cars, bedrooms and bathrooms."
