July 8 - Los Angeles Angels right-handed pitcher Hunter Strickland landed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right shoulder inflammation.
The Angels recalled right-hander Victor Mederos from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move.
Strickland told reporters in Anaheim that he will undergo an MRI on Tuesday and was hopeful about the results.
The 36-year-old veteran reliever is in his second season with the Angels, his eighth major league club. He has gotten into 19 games this year, including Sunday, when he threw one perfect inning in a loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Strickland owns a 1-2 record and a 3.27 ERA across 22 innings this year. He is 26-25 with a 3.39 ERA in 499 relief appearances all-time.
Mederos, 24, made one three-inning appearance for the Angels this season back in April. He scattered two runs on two hits and three walks for a 6.00 ERA. He has made 11 starts at Salt Lake this season and is 5-4 with a 4.09 ERA there.

Wimbledon: Taylor Fritz beats Karen Khachanov for his first semifinal at the grass-court Slam

Taylor Fritz recovered from a mid-match lull during which he was treated by a trainer for a foot problem and reached the Wimbledon semifinals for the first time with a 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4) victory over Karen Khachanov on Tuesday. The No. 5-seeded Fritz, an American who was the runner-up at last year's U.S. Open, came in with a 1-4 record in major quarterfinals, 0-2 at Wimbledon. He'll now meet either two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain or unseeded Cam Norrie of Britain for a berth in the final. Fritz powered his way to a big early lead against No. 17 Khachanov, taking 40 of his 47 service points across the initial two sets and never facing a break chance in that span. But then two-time major semifinalist Khachanov grabbed eight of nine games. It was during that stretch that Fritz took a medical timeout, removing his right shoe and sock so the trainer could retape the foot. Khachanov broke to begin the fourth set, in a game in which Fritz's top serve was 117 mph, 18 mph slower than his fastest of the match to that point. He looked up at his guest box and tapped his racket against his thighs, perhaps indicating that he was dealing with some fatigue. From 2-0 down in the fourth, though, Fritz began to regain his strength and touch, and was just two points from victory a total of three times while up 5-4 and 6-5. But Khachanov got things to the tiebreaker, where the score was 4-all, before Fritz claimed the final trio of points. Fritz finished with 16 aces and reached a top speed of 138 mph by the end. Khachanov, never past the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, fell to 0-11 in Grand Slam matches against opponents ranked in the top five. ___

Fifa opens office in Trump Tower, deepening ties with US president

Fifa's relationship with US president Donald Trump now has a physically tangible marker, with soccer's world governing body announcing that it has opened an office at Trump Tower in New York City. The announcement of the new office opening came on Monday evening, after Fifa placed the Club World Cup trophy on display in the lobby of the skyscraper on the south-west corner of Central Park in an event attended by several Fifa dignitaries including its president Gianni Infantino, the Brazilian great Ronaldo and Eric Trump, the son of the US president and executive vice-president of the Trump Organization. 'Fifa [is] a global organisation [and] to be global, you have to be local, you have to be everywhere, so we have to be in New York – not just for the Fifa Club World Cup this year and the Fifa World Cup next year – we have to be in New York as well when it comes to where our offices are based,' Infantino said. 'Thank you, Eric [Trump], thank you to everyone. Thanks, of course, to president Trump as well.' Fifa did not provide specifics on which staff or departments would be housed in the office, which makes the federation a tenant of the company owned by the sitting US president with a year to the start of its biggest and most lucrative tournament. The opening of the Trump Tower location follows Fifa's 2024 opening of an office in Miami, Florida, which houses the organization's legal division and some staff responsible for putting on the Club World Cup and next year's World Cup. Some staff from Fifa's global headquarters in Zurich were relocated to the United States to work in the latter office. 'On behalf of myself, on behalf of New York, on behalf of the Trump Organization and everybody that works in this building – we love you,' Eric Trump said in remarks at the event. 'We're honoured, we're excited about all the things that Fifa is doing.' The office opening continues Fifa's and Infantino's efforts to appear publicly close to the US president, with Infantino describing his relationship with Trump as 'absolutely crucial' in a meeting with the International Football Association Board (Ifab) in February. Infantino has since appeared with the US president at several public events, including at the Oval Office when announcing the creation of a World Cup task force. In that meeting, Infantino presented Trump with the Club World Cup trophy, which has continued to be on display in the Oval Office for all of the president's scheduled events in the space. Infantino was later present at the first public meeting of the World Cup taskforce, at which he was seated alongside Trump with vice-president JD Vance. Uefa later accused Infantino of putting 'private political interests' ahead of his Fifa responsibilities, and Human Rights Watch demanded that Infantino reveal the specific purpose and details of his trip, which he has yet to do. 'As president of Fifa my responsibility is to make decisions in the interests of the organisation,' Infantino said at the congress, where he apologized for his tardyness. 'I felt that I needed to be there to represent football and all of you.'

NFL star Kirk Cousins slams his own team and claims he was 'misled' after they drafted another quarterback

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins seems slighted by his team's decision making last season, which led to him eventually being supplanted from his starting role. Cousins made a big-money move in free agency in 2024, signing a four-year, $180million deal with the Falcons after a lengthy career with the Minnesota Vikings. The 36-year-old quarterback's move was criticized at the time by fans, who saw the contract as too expensive for an aging gunslinger. It was further scrutinized when the Falcons picked a quarterback eighth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft - selecting Michael Penix Jr out of the University of Washington. In the latest season of the Netflix series 'Quarterback', Cousins seemed to have second thoughts about his choice of team. 'Certainly, if I had that information around free agency, it would've affected my decision,' Cousins said. 'I had no reason to leave Minnesota, with how much we loved it there, if both teams were going to be drafting a quarterback high. 'But I've also learned in 12 years in this league that you're not entitled to anything — it's all about earning your spot and proving yourself.' While Cousins may feel hard done by the Falcons, no one can blame the team for making the objectively correct decision for their season last year. Cousins struggled massively in Atlanta, eventually losing the starting job to Penix - who nearly got the Falcons to the playoffs.
