The Mogaram festival, which fell on a Sunday this year, did not result in an additional public holiday. However, there is welcome news for those looking forward to more time off. Several districts across Tamil Nadu have announced local holidays on July 23, 24, and 28, much to the delight of schoolchildren, teachers, and government employees.
In particular, the district of Ariyalur will observe a local holiday on Tuesday, July 23, in honour of the birth anniversary of the illustrious Chola emperor, Rajendra Chola I. Known for his remarkable military conquests and administrative acumen, Rajendra Chola is a revered historical figure, and his birthday is celebrated with various cultural and commemorative events throughout the region.
Meanwhile, the Thiruvadhirai festival, an important religious occasion observed annually in the Tamil month of Aadi, will be celebrated with great fervour this year. The festival, which holds deep spiritual significance, especially for devotees of Lord Shiva, attracts lakhs of worshippers who gather to participate in rituals and festivities. In keeping with tradition, the district administration has declared a public holiday on the day of the festival to facilitate public participation.
This adjustment aims to balance the number of working days while still allowing communities to partake in the upcoming festivals fully.
