Ozzy Osbourne's Funeral Plans Revealed Before Death at 76 — Rock Legend's Final Wishes
revealed his funeral plans before his death at 76. The Black Sabbath frontman passed away on Tuesday, July 22, just weeks after taking the stage for his final show with his original bandmates.
With the news of his death, Ozzy's past comments about his own funeral wishes have resurfaced, offering insight into how the 'Prince of Darkness' wanted to be remembered.
While his funeral arrangements have not been confirmed by his family, the rock legend had been surprisingly thoughtful about his final farewell over the years.
In a candid 2011 interview with The Times, Ozzy made it clear he didn't want his funeral to be a somber affair. Instead, he envisioned it as an opportunity for celebration.
"There'll be no harping on the bad times," he said. "It's worth remembering that a lot of people see nothing but misery their whole lives, so by any measure, most of us in this country — especially rock stars like me — are very lucky."
The Birmingham-born rocker emphasized his desire for positivity over mourning. "That's why I don't want my funeral to be sad, I want it to be a time to say 'thanks'," Ozzy explained.
He insisted he wanted it to be a celebration rather than a 'mope-fest' and that he didn't care what music was played as long as it made his loved ones happy.
True to his sense of humor, Ozzy took a lighthearted approach to the musical selection for his own send-off. "I honestly don't care what they play at my funeral; they can put on a medley of Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle and We Are the Diddymen if it makes 'em happy," he quipped.
Known for his humor throughout his career, he joked about playing one final prank at his funeral, such as showing a video of him asking a doctor for a second opinion on his death.
However, Ozzy's musical preferences for his farewell evolved over time. A few years after his Times interview, the metal icon had second thoughts about his funeral soundtrack. Speaking to NME in 2016, he revealed a more specific vision for his final send out.
"I really need a few more years to think this over, but probably something from 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band or Revolver," he said.
His stance on his own music remained unchanged, though. "I definitely don't want my f--king greatest hits album - I never ever play that thing, I'm f--king embarrassed about it. And I definitely don't want a f--king happy song - I'm dead."
The Osbourne family announced his passing in a heartfelt statement released in the early morning hours.
"It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning," the statement read. "He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time."

'60s Rock Legend Shares Bold Opinion About the Future of Black Sabbath
'60s Rock Legend Shares Bold Opinion About the Future of Black Sabbath originally appeared on Parade. As one of the only surviving members of the iconic rock band The Doors, guitarist Robby Krieger knows a thing or two about carrying on after the tragic loss of an larger-than-life frontman. So it's no surprise that the 79-year-old musician had some words of wisdom for Black Sabbath following the recent death of Ozzy Osbourne. In a video shared to TikTok this week, Krieger stopped to chat with a fan about Osbourne's death on July 22, calling it "a bummer." "I didn't really know him, but I know some of the other guys in the band," he added. When asked whether he thought Black Sabbath should continue to tour without Osbourne, Krieger gave a practical, if tongue-in-cheek, answer. "I would say take ten years and then decide," he said, smiling slightly, adding that it's "not cool" when bands "go right out" on tour after the death of a member. Fans were quick to comment on Krieger's sly sense of humor, noting that in ten years, the remaining members of Black Sabbath will be close to 90 years old. "My guy has a sense of humor. Ten years," one person wrote, with a second agreeing, "His little smirk waiting for her to get the joke was really sweet." "Very keen sense of humor apparently!" another fan added, as someone else added, "What a sweetheart. Total gentleman." Krieger's dark sense of humor was also on display in an interview with Variety following the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year when he opened up about writing songs such as "Light My Fire" while living with his parents in their Pacific Palisades home, which unfortunately burned in the blaze. 'Instead of writing 'Light My Fire,' I should've written 'Don't Light My Fire,'' he quipped.'60s Rock Legend Shares Bold Opinion About the Future of Black Sabbath first appeared on Parade on Aug 4, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Aug 4, 2025, where it first appeared.

Coldplay's Viral Surge Pushes Multiple Smashes To Never-Before-Seen Peaks
Coldplay is enjoying a remarkable and much-desired resurgence, the kind that most musical acts dream of in this era of virality. What began as a sudden surge for 'Sparks' has spread to several of the band's most beloved hits, and multiple songs soar to new highs on a variety of Billboard rankings — in some cases, years, or even decades, after they were first released. 'Sparks' Hits New Peaks on Five Rankings Weeks after first going viral, 'Sparks' continues to climb. This frame, it returns to the Hot 100 at No. 80, earning a new peak in its second stay on the hugely competitive cut also rises to No. 89 on the Billboard Global 200, its highest position to date, and jumps to No. 17 on the Rock Streaming Songs list. On the Hot Alternative Songs ranking, 'Sparks' improves to No. 9, matching its placement on Alternative Streaming Songs chart. Coldplay's tune sets new personal bests on five separate rosters at the same time – not too shabby for a cut originally released a quarter-century ago. 'Yellow' Advances on Two Billboard Charts 'Yellow' is the only other Coldplay track this week to reach new peaks on more than one ranking. The band's breakout smash lifts to No. 37 on the Billboard Global 200, its best showing throughout its impressive 223-week run on the list of the most consumed tracks all around the planet. At the same time, the cut moves to No. 11 on the Alternative Streaming Songs chart, soaring higher than ever. On the Alternative Digital Song Sales roster, 'Yellow,' an early-career win for Coldplay, reenters at No. 6, just shy of its previous high of No. 4. 'Viva La Vida' and 'The Scientist' Earn Single-Chart Peak Two additional Coldplay staples enjoy upward movement this week, and each claims a new high point on one chart. 'Viva La Vida' reappears on Alternative Digital Song Sales at No. 2, marking a new peak position and almost becoming another leader for the group. Meanwhile, 'The Scientist' climbs to No. 109 on the Billboard Global 200, its loftiest spot yet on that ranking. Other Coldplay Favorites Return or Rise Other tracks by the Grammy-winning band are also enjoying this moment of virality, though they don't establish new peaks, as several other Coldplay cuts do. 'Something Just Like This,' the group's blockbuster collaboration with The Chainsmokers, climbs on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. 'A Sky Full of Stars' reenters the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart at No. 9, while 'Clocks' is back on that same list at No. 10.
