Social Media Rips Pat McAfee's Appearance at Home Run Derby
The network and league decided to have Pat McAfee and his 'The Pat McAfee Show' co-host Ty Schmit introduce the players participating in the derby at the home of the Atlanta Braves — and it was quite the spectacle.

McAfee caught himself nearly slipping up when introducing Pittsburgh Pirates' Oneil Cruz, saying he was on the Steelers. McAfee also decided to tell a national audience that Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh has the 'fattest a** in all of professional sports.'
Fans were instantly tired of McAfee's act and ripped him across social media.
Fans expressed frustration about ESPN forcing McAfee into baseball coverage. Many called his performance 'obnoxious' and 'exhausting,' with some noting that the 60,000-plus crowd at Truist Park seemed to tune him out during the introductions.
Several users compared the situation to ESPN's overexposure of Stephen A. Smith, suggesting the network is making the same mistake by putting McAfee 'everywhere.' Others questioned why a former NFL punter was chosen to introduce MLB players at one of baseball's premier events.

Will MLB learn from this miscue in time for next year's All-Star festivities in Philadelphia? If history tells us anything, probably not.

LeBron James reportedly hasn't had buyout or trade talks with Lakers, is expected to report to training camp
Despite plenty of speculation about his future, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James appears content with his current situation. James reportedly hasn't spoken to the Lakers about a buyout or trade, and is expected to report to training camp with the team, according to The Athletic. That should presumably end rumors suggesting James could leave the franchise ahead of his 23rd season in the NBA. Advertisement James' status with the team has come into question despite the 40-year-old opting into his $52.6 million contract with the Lakers in June. James did not demand a one-year extension on his contract, which he's done in the past, leading some to wonder whether he was still happy in Los Angeles. The Lakers reportedly didn't offer James an extension either, leading some to wonder if the team was looking ahead to a time without James. James' agent Rich Paul also got people talking after he made comments about the Lakers trying to contend while also building for the future, per The Athletic. 'LeBron knows the Lakers are building for the future, and he also wants to compete for championships. We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career." Despite all the speculation, there's been no indication James is trying to force his way out of the Lakers just yet. He and Dončić alone are enough to make the team a contender, which should satisfy James' need to compete for a championship as his career winds down. But the Lakers also need to plan for life without James. While the future Hall of Famer continues to play at a high level, he doesn't have many years left in the NBA. Even if the Lakers want to keep him around, the team can't really plan to have James for the long haul given his age. Advertisement Given that, the team has prioritizing building around the 26-year-old Dončić, who it acquired in February in one of the most shocking NBA trades of all time. Dončić is likely to sign a massive extension with the Lakers at some point this offseason, guaranteeing he'll remain with the team for multiple seasons. James can't make that same promise. While the transition to Dončić has fueled some of the rumors about James' status, that speculation isn't based on anything James has said or done. Those rumors appear to be the result of people wondering how James will handle not being the focal point of a franchise. Advertisement Until James gives some indication he's unhappy, there's no reason to suspect things will change in Los Angeles. James opted in and is a member of the Lakers for the 2025-26 NBA season. Despite the rumors, it appears it's going to be business as usual for the veteran as he enters his 23rd season in the league.

Wyndham Clark banned from Oakmont Country Club after damaging locker during 2025 U.S. Open
Wyndham Clark has four missed cuts and only one top-10 finish this year on the PGA Tour. He is currently No. 28 in the world, No. 22 in the Ryder Cup standings and is No. 78 in the FedCup rankings. (Photo by) Wyndham Clark has been suspended from Oakmont Country Club due to the golfer's actions in damaging a locker during the 2025 U.S. Open last month. In a letter obtained by Golf Digest, club president John Lynch informed members that Clark is not allowed on the property and that he can be reinstated if he fulfills certain requirements, like paying for the damage, making a charitable contribution and attending "counseling and/or anger management sessions." 'Several of you have inquired about the situation involving Wyndham Clark and the steps being taken in response to his recent behavior. Following multiple discussions with the USGA and the OCC Board, a decision has been made that Mr. Clark will no longer be permitted on OCC property. "This decision will remain in effect unless formally reconsidered and approved by the Board. "Reinstatement would be contingent upon Mr. Clark fulfilling a number of specific conditions, including full repayment for damages, a meaningful contribution to a charity of the Board's choosing, and the successful completion of counseling and/or anger management sessions. "Thank you for your understanding and continued support." Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, missed the cut after shooting 8-over par through two rounds. He apologized for his actions the following week at the Travelers Championship saying he "made a mistake that I deeply regret" and that he'd "like to move on" from the incident. The issue was brought up last week ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open with Clark calling it "a mistake in a moment of rage." 'Yeah, I mean, I made a mistake in a moment of rage with, you know, a bad year and everything coming together and it just was more than anything a good wake-up call for me to say, 'Hey, you know what, let's get back on track and things aren't that bad,'' Clark said. 'I live a great life and I'm not that far off from playing good golf, so I feel like I've turned a page and we're now maybe on the right track of playing some good golf.' Advertisement During the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow, Clark damaged a tee marker as he shot 4-over par and finished tied for 50th. Clark will have plenty of time to fulfill the requirements of his punishment and not miss out of Oakmont's next big tournament. The club doesn't host the U.S. Open again until 2033.

More from Deadline Amazon MGM Studios & Sony Pictures Ink Multi-Year International Theatrical Distribution Deal 'Eleanor The Great' Scribe Tory Kamen Hosts First Writer-Focused 'Deadline Dinners' Event: "I Wanted A Community Of People I Could Relate To" Andrew Garfield & Ayo Edebiri Praise Working With 'After The Hunt' Director Luca Guadagnino: "Was Impressed By How Loose He Was" The movie, written by screenwriter Nora Garrett, follows in the wake of ever-busy Italian director Guardagnino's sports romance Challengers, starring Zendaya, Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist, and Queer adaptation, starring Daniel Craig. Talking to Deadline at CinemaCon in April, Garfield praised Guadagnino's spontaneous but laser focused approach on set. 'What was exciting and surprising about being with Luca on set was how loose he is, how relaxed he is, how kind of spontaneous, in the moment and totally focused when he needs to be, but he seems to be allowing the day and the scene and the moment to be found,' said Garfield. 'He's such a precise filmmaker, simultaneously, so I found that deeply surprising.' Producers on After the Hunt are Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum for Imagine Entertainment and Call Me By Your Name Oscar nominee Guadagnino under his Frenesy banner. Garrett also exec produces along with Imagine's Karen Lunder. The feature launches October 10.
