However, Doyle avoided any complications as she latched Witness Stand on to the small cluster to go forward from start, always in the slipstream of customary front-runner Quinault and defending champion Audience.
It looked momentarily like Audience would recreate last year's heroics, but the 25-1 winner found plenty in reserve inside the final furlong to gallop home two-and-three-quarter-lengths clear of William Haggas' Lake Forest, the only runner to emerge from the chasing pack late on.
Insole said: 'As a trainer you wait your whole life for a good horse and to win the Lennox is pretty incredible.
'We bought him for a hundred grand and felt he'd gone under the radar as there were higher offers for him that came our way afterwards. I already had this race in mind for him.
'It was his Chester run (second in a Listed race) that gave us the confidence to come here, and when I saw the rain this morning and the slower ground I knew it would be to his advantage.
'He's in the Hungerford (at Newbury), but would have to carry a penalty now. I also put him in the Foret this morning.'
For co-trainer Newland it was a red-letter day in his new venture alongside Insole training on the level alongside his Grand National heroics in the jumps sphere. He is also a part-owner of the winner.
Newland said: 'It's a great result and fair play to Jamie and all the team. It was a lovely ride from Hollie in a funny sort of race, but I'm not complaining.
'Jamie leads the Flat team day-to-day, but I am involved in the background and discussing the training and placing of horses.
'I'm also a part-owner of that horse so it's a terrific result. He was bought to be a flag bearer due to his high rating and it was a superb bit of purchasing by Jamie and Matt Holdsworth at the sales and now we've had a payday to get some money back and give us a high-profile winner which is fabulous.'
He added: 'It's more than dipping our toe in and we're more of a Flat yard now. There's a number of reasons for that but I'm loving the new challenge of it and it's quite a big thing to try and re-establish yourself as a Flat yard after being a jumps yard for so long.
'I'm thrilled with how it's going and we've some lovely horses coming through. It's great fun and I've been doing the job 20 years so it's nice to have a new challenge.'

Candleford is seven now but looked as good as ever when taking a Beverley Listed prize last month. He likes this trip and William Haggas is in decent form. Meydaan was second on his last visit here in May and has been running well at Listed level without winning. Advertisement Ryan Moore taking over is a plus but he needs a bit more to score. Ambiente Friendly hasn't fired this season and has been gelded since a poor effort at Royal Ascot. 1.55 SAM HAWKENS is a stayer on the up as he showed when scooting in over 1m5f at Hamilton last time. He has been going well around 1m4f and looks a big price to place. French Duke is another stepping up in distance and he won at this meeting last season. Roger Varian's hope is 10lb higher than that now but should have more to offer. Advertisement Master Builder often travels well without winning but he has scored over this trip and didn't run badly on his last run here. 2.30 TERM OF ENDEARMENT won this race 12 months ago and returning to this trip and track can bring out her best form. She was beaten when odds-on at Sandown last time but that was a muddling race and he was only two lengths away at the line. This may not be the day after a long break she's one to watch. Fellow Gosden runner Sueno was a solid second at Newmarket latest and ran well over this distance at York before that. Advertisement She is another with solid claims. Goodie Two Shoes won a Group 3 over this distance at Fairyhouse latest and is respected with William Buick up. Waardah is a three-year-old with a bright future after a Listed win here in June. That was over 1m2f so she has to prove her staying power. Top jockey William Buick teams up with Andrew Balding with this four-year-old who saves his best for this distance and likes soft ground. He should get his conditions here and run a big race at fair odds. Hard to rule out, but needs best to hit the frame. COMPLETELY RANDOM 4 RAN raid. Good run in the Wokingham latest and will love the pace of this. Just the type to pop up in a race like this. DESERT COP 1 Advertisement COP out. Decent form in Bahrain but has been poor back here. Looks the yard's second string. DRAMA 2 NO Drama. Plenty of form on AW but turf record is weaker. Unlucky last time but needs more for this. ELMONJED 4 Advertisement EL of a bet. Improved a bundle to win at York and likes this trip and going. More weight but a major player. GERMANIC 2 TOO Manic. Hard to fancy despite trainer Jim Goldie being in good form. JUNGLE DRUMS 1 Advertisement JUNGLE juiced. Fair 2yo but been poor for a while and this looks much too tough. Drums out of tune. KORKER 3 KOR blimey. Hold-up horse who needs luck but trip fine and likes soft. Each-way shout if getting the breaks. ORAZIO 1 Advertisement ON Raz. Hit and miss last year and poor comeback at Ascot. Hard to fancy despite handling any ground. PUROSANGUE 5 URO Star. Backed for this last year on firm but best efforts on soft and dropped to a very nice mark. Can go close. Shown little form this season. STRIKE RED 3 RED alert. Best of group behind Elmonjed at York. Nicely treated and peaking at right time. Can run a good race. THE X O 1 Advertisement CROSS out X. Out of sorts for a while and tailed off on stable debut. Trip suits but not good enough for this. TOCA MADERA 2 MAD bet. Good third at York in May and holding his form but doesn't look well treated in first-time cheekpieces. TWILIGHT CALLS 1 Advertisement TWILIGHT in dark. Three years without a win tells the tale. Best over this trip but likely to struggle again. TWILIGHT JET 2 JET must fly. Ran well at Epsom but was poor here on Tuesday. Prefers this trip on soft but needs a lot more. TWO TRIBES 3 Advertisement TWO true. Won strong 7f race last week at Ascot and stamina may help in conditions. Could get involved late. VADREAM 2 BAD Vad. Was tailed off at Royal Ascot and on a long losing run. Slow ground suits but up against it again. 3.45 Advertisement SPIRIT OF FARHH looks a big price given how well he took a Newmarket handicap over this trip 14 days ago. The ground was tacky on the July course but he went through it nicely and is open to improvement. In-form trainer Eve Johnson Houghton has a good record here and can go close again. Montpellier won a couple of maidens and ran well at Salisbury on handicap debut last time. Advertisement There's more to come with this step up in distance a wise move. Consolidation was snookered by the draw at Royal Ascot but won over this course and distance two starts ago. It's early days and there should be a lot more to come. Mudbir is bred to be classy and scored on handicap debut at Sandown 28 days ago. Advertisement He should progress from there from the Gosdens and looks a big player. Rare Change was hampered at Newcastle last time after winning at Pontefract. He likes this trip and has place claims. Yah Mo Be There ran well in the Jersey Stakes from a moderate draw and is another danger. Advertisement NEWMARKET 2.10 SAYIDAH HARD SPUN has won two of her past three runs and saw out this trip well when scoring at Ascot last time. The handicapper has been fair with a 3lb rise in the weights and she can take another step forward. Advertisement Awaafi was a promising second at Haydock last time. She shapes as though seven furlongs would be ideal but her stamina could be an asset here. Azleet enjoyed the all-weather when scoring over this distance at Southwell 20 three weeks ago. Her opening handicap mark of 76 looks on the lenient side and there should be more to come. Advertisement Ruby's Angel is another making her handicap debut and was a place behind Awaafi last time. Despite that she carries 1lb more which seems a little strange but she's not out of this. Meelaf completes the field for in-form Karl Burke and has run well at Group 3 level so is no mug in this wide-open contest. Her mark is not the kindest and she might have less scope than a few of these now but she's quick. Advertisement 3.20 MERIBELLA had some traffic problems in a Pontefract Listed race last time so did well to finish third. This trip is ideal and she will be on the premises again. Jane Temple clocked a personal best when third in a similar contest to this last time. Advertisement She goes on any ground and will be right there. Silent Love steps out of maiden company where she landed a battling success at Kempton latest. This longer trip will suit and there's a fair bit more to come. Sioux Life is an Italian Group 2 winner over 1m2f so has quality but her first crack at this trip at Haydock last time was only a modest run. Advertisement Karmology was second in good company at Beverley and will try to nick this off the front. She's likely to be collared by a couple in the closing stages. Goodwood tips: Newsboy's picks plus 1-2-3 for every race on Saturday on ITV
With plenty of winners over the five days our ace tipster tackles the Stewards Cup and every other race on the final day of Glorious Goodwood Five days of racing in one of the most picturesque racing settings in the world comes to an end at Goodwood on Saturday. The Qatar Goodwood Festival, also known as Glorious Goodwood, is one of the highlights of the summer when the crowds come out to the Sussex venue in the hope of fine racing and fine weather. Day five features the Coral Stewards' Cup, contested by a maximum field of 28, the Group 2 Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes and the Group 3 Coral Glorious Stakes. Newsboy, aka David Yates, will be providing daily and detailed guides on every race. 1.20 Coral Glorious Stakes AL AASY won this race in style 12 months ago and the title holder will be hard to beat. For a horse who has been called his fair share of names, William Haggas's stable stalwart has an enviable record of 10 wins from 25 starts - that's a 40 per cent win ratio. His eighth victory came here in 2024 when the gelded eight-year-old and Jim Crowley threaded through a gap against the far rail to account for Relentless Voyager by one length. Al Aasy then made light of a Group 3 penalty in Newbury's Geoffrey Freer Stakes two weeks later and made it into double figures when returning to the fray in the same-level Gordon Richard Stakes at Sandown Park in April. Again held up at the back of the seven-runner field, the son of Sea The Stars swept through to beat Ancient Wisdom by half a length, with Arabian Crown behind in sixth. A funeral cortège gallop proved Al Aasy's undoing when fourth in the Group 3 Aston Park Stakes at Newbury, and he didn't get the breaks upped in class for Royal Ascot 's Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes last time. But he should get a pace to aim at here and, back down in grade, must go well. The rain-softened terrain is a plus for Arabian Crown, while Al Aasy's stablemate Candleford is the choice for third. NEWSBOY'S 1-2-3: 1 AL AASY, 2 ARABIAN CROWN, 3 CANDLEFORD 1.55 Coral Summer Handicap SUBSEQUENT went from strength to strength in 2024 and will have no issue with the prevailing conditions. The Andrew Balding-saddled son of Galileo won't win anything if he repeats the form of his comeback last-of-six behind Al Qareem in the Group 3 Silver Cup at York last month. But the chestnut four-year-old is better judged on his ascent through the ranks last season. Unraced at two, Subsequent marked his third start by landing a novice stakes at Haydock Park in June of last year before entering the handicap domain to score at Salisbury and Newmarket during the summer. On the back of a short-head defeat in Doncaster's valuable Mallard Handicap in September, my preference went one better, by two and a half lengths from Allonsy, in the Listed Noel Murless Stakes - the one-mile, six-furlong race was staged on soft ground - at Ascot three weeks later. A sizeable step forward from his reappearance is essential but, if it is forthcoming back in handicaps, David Probert's partner is well capable of registering a fifth career win. The hat-trick-seeking Sam Hawkens is on the up and entitled to respect, along with French Duke and Aeronautic. NEWSBOY'S 1-2-3: 1 SUBSEQUENT, 2 SAM HAWKENS, 3 FRENCH DUKE 2.30 Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes GOODIE TWO SHOES has done very little wrong and, despite tackling Group 2 opposition for the first time, gets the vote rack up the four-timer. She has a win in a mares' maiden hurdle at Killarney to show from seven attempts over obstacles, but Joseph O'Brien's daughter of Fastnet Rock has been a good deal more effective on the Flat, carrying the colours of JP McManus to six victories from 10 starts. Half of those successes have come this season, starting with a six-length supremacy in the Listed Vintage Tipple Stakes - Goodie Two Shoes had finished third at Cork on her Flat comeback the previous month - over a mile and three-quarters at Gowran Park in May. Staying at Listed level but moving up to two miles, the six-year-old went in again under Dylan Browne McMonagle - William Buick is in the plate this afternoon - with a length-and-a-half beating of La Isla Mujeres. And she completed the hat-trick back at a mile and six in the Group 3 Stanerra Stakes back over at Fairyhouse 24 days ago, travelling strongly en route to a half-length margin from Drawn To Dream. This test demands another personal best, but Goodie Two Shoes is thriving and it will be a surprise if this likeable mare doesn't have more to give. Term Of Endearment came home in front 12 months ago and should again go well, while stablemates Danielle and Sueno are taken to battle it out for the bronze medal. NEWSBOY'S 1-2-3: 1 GOODIE TWO SHOES, 2 TERM OF ENDEARMENT, 3 DANIELLE 3.05 Coral Stewards' Cup COMMANCHE FALLS is well treated for his bid for racing history as the first three-time winner of the Stewards' Cup. The eight-year-old is currently in a share of the lead with Marvel (1980 & 1892), Golden Rod (1910 &1912), Lord Annandale (1913 & 1914), Sugar Palm (1942 & 1943) and Sky Diver (1967 & 1968) - all are two-time winners of the six-furlong test. Michael Dods' stable favourite can be backed at bid odds to land the overall record - but shouldn't be underestimated. The downside is the gelding's losing run - 16 races since Commanche Falls lifted York's Listed Garrowby Stakes in September 2023. But there are positives - and you don't have to look too hard to find them. The barren spell has seen Commanche Falls fall in the weights - he was rated 112 on the day of his latest win but will compete from a British Horseracing Authority handicap mark of 98 today. There is also the small matter of his 'previous' in this race. In 2021, Connor Beasley's partner galloped through soft ground to deny Gulliver by a months later, on significantly quicker terrain, he followed up with a short-head call from Tabdeed. Those wins - Commanche Falls is unbeaten in two visits to Goodwood - came from ratings 3lb and 5lb above this afternoon's figure, and the recent return to form of the Dods yard fuels hopes of a revival. In a typically open renewal, Hammer The Hammer, Jakajaro, Strike Red, and Apollo One are at the top of a long shortlist. Find out more here. 3.45 Whispering Angel Handicap HEADMASTER is intriguing as he makes his debut in the handicap sphere. There is much to like about the William Haggas trainee's pedigree - Headmaster is a son of Dubawi and the Somerville Lodge stable's three-time Prix de la Forêt heroine, One Master. Headmaster didn't make the track as a juvenile and he was gelded by the time he took on seven opponents for a novice stakes at Lingfield Park in May, finishing a three-quarter-length second to Elarak. The runner-up berth once more beckoned at Windsor at the end of June as Headmaster went down by a neck to Antipodes. But there was no mistake at the third time of asking as my choice justified odds of 2-5 in style at Haydock Park 15 days ago, humbling Palio Di Siena by four and a quarter lengths. Headmaster looks capable of a good deal better and, from an opening mark of 88, he should give Japanese rising star Mirai Iwata a good spin. Dangers lurk at every turn, with top weight The Waco Kid, favourite Mudbir and the soft-ground-capable Spirit Of Farhh all with something to recommend them. The son of Dubai - dam Ricetta is a niece of Kingman who won twice for John and Thady Gosden - went off at 12-1 in a field of five when starting out for Clarehaven in a novice stakes at Sandown Park at the beginning of last month. Prominent from the outset, Corinth looked in need of his first experience when asked to go forward entering the final two of the contest's seven furlongs. But he kept on to take fourth, two and a quarter lengths behind winner Pacifica Pier - Corinth's stablemate Publish took second but is now the 2,000 Guineas favourite after going one better at the Esher track - and will know more this time. Isaac Newton just missed out on his Curragh debut and is greatly feared, ahead of Exclusive Code. NEWSBOY'S 1-2-3: 1 CORINTH, 2 ISAAC NEWTON, 3 EXCLUSIVE CODE 4.55 Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap ALPHA CRUCIS gets the vote to improve on an already impressive Goodwood track three visits, the son of Australia, trained in tandem by Gary and Josh Moore, has emerged victorious on three occasions. Successful over a mile here in October 2023, the five-year-old was back in business over this afternoon's course and distance last September before following up back at a mile on the South Downs 18 days later. Not disgraced on his return when eighth in the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster in March, Alpha Crucis was a good second at Epsom on Oaks day and appeals from an unchanged mark.
