The Bollywood Icon Who Mentored Rajesh Khanna But Lost Stardom To Zeenat Aman
Having worked alongside cinematic legends such as Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna, Shammi Kapoor, Dara Singh, and Sanjeev Kumar, Mumtaz celebrates her birthday on July 31. Her elegance and charm remain as captivating as ever.
Interestingly, Mumtaz often helped superstar Rajesh Khanna with his dancing. In an interview with Pakistani actor Ahsan Khan, she revealed that Rajesh Khanna struggled with the choreography of a popular song, and she took it upon herself to teach him the steps. She frequently assisted him with dance routines and even regarded herself as his mentor in that regard.
Whenever discussions arise about the most beautiful actresses of Hindi cinema from the 1960s and '70s, Mumtaz's name is invariably mentioned at the top. Her life story reads like a film script — a humble beginning, countless struggles, and eventually a life of glamour.
Initially pigeonholed as a 'stunt film heroine for hire', Mumtaz was born on July 31, 1947 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her birth name was Mumtaz Begum Jahan Dehlvi. She entered the film industry as a child artist at the age of 11 and carved her path through sheer determination and hard work.
A pivotal moment in her career came with the 1963 film Faulad, in which she starred opposite the renowned wrestler-actor Dara Singh. This action film marked a turning point, leading to several more collaborations with Dara Singh in films such as Veer Bhimsen (1964), Sikander-e-Azam (1965), Raaka (1965), Tarzan Comes to Delhi (1965), Rustam-e-Hind (1965), Boxer (1965), Daku Mangal Singh (1966) and Jung Aur Aman (1968).
7/7
Mumtaz also appeared in a small role in the 1971 film Hare Rama Hare Krishna, which had Zeenat Aman in the lead. Zeenat Aman's captivating performance won over audiences and propelled her to stardom almost overnight, gradually leading to her replacing Mumtaz in subsequent films. With Zeenat Aman's rise, Mumtaz's dominance in the film industry began to wane.

Kartik Aaryan's team says actor was ‘not associated' with event organised by Pakistani restaurant after FWICE's warning
Actor Kartik Aaryan received a notice from The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) over claims that he was going to be present at an upcoming Independence Day event in Houston, USA. The event was organised by a Pakistani-owned restaurant. The actor's team has now issued a statement clarifying that he was not associated with this event. Kartik Aaryan was last seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Official statement from Kartik's team The official statement from Kartik Aaryan's team read: 'Kartik Aaryan is not associated with this event in any capacity. He has never made an official announcement about participating in this event. We have contacted the organizers and requested to remove all promotional materials featuring his name and image." Objection from FWICE The issue began when, in an official letter to Kartik, the FWICE urged the actor to withdraw from the upcoming event. As per Times Now, the letter read, 'It is with a sense of deep concern and responsibility that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) brings to your notice a matter involving your scheduled participation in an event titled Azadi Utsav-The Indian Independence Day to be held in Houston, USA, on 15th August 2025. As per the attached poster, you are being featured as the lead guest for this celebration. While such events are a source of pride and cultural expression for Indians abroad, we regret to inform you that this specific program is being organized by a Pakistani-owned restaurant, Aga's Restaurant and Catering, owned by Mr. Shaukat Maredia.' The letter continued, 'The same restaurant and its associates are also organizing a concert featuring Pakistani singer Atil Aslam and are promoting Jashn-e-Azadi, a celebration of Pakistan's Independence Day. The simultaneous promotion of Indian and Pakistani national events by the same establishment not only creates a conflict of interest but also violates the ongoing national sentiment and directives.' 'We believe you may not have been fully aware of the organisers' background or affiliations. If so, we strongly urge you to immediately withdraw your participation from this event. However, if you were aware, it becomes a matter of even greater concern and we expect a clarification and immediate distancing from such associations. We are confident that you, as one of the most influential and respected faces of today's Indian cinema, will act in a manner that aligns with national sentiment, the dignity of the Indian film industry, and your own stellar reputation. We look forward to your responsible and timely response on this matter,' concluded the statement. On the work front, Kartik was last seen in the horror-comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Fans will see him next in Anurag Basu's next, which will also star Sreeleela.

Kartik Aaryan Responds To FWICE Over US Event Row: 'Not Associated In Any Capacity'
Kartik Aaryan breaks silence on US event row after FWICE raises concerns. Says he is not involved and requests removal of promotional materials using his name. Kartik Aaryan has officially distanced himself from an Independence Day event in the US that sparked backlash from the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). The actor's team released a statement clarifying that he has no connection to Azadi Utsav – The Indian Independence Day, an event allegedly organised by a Pakistani-owned restaurant in Houston. The controversy began after FWICE raised objections to Kartik's reported participation in the event, sharing a poster that featured him as a guest. In its letter addressed to the actor, the federation expressed 'deep concern" and urged him to withdraw from the programme. But Kartik's team has now clarified the actor's stance, 'Kartik Aaryan is not associated with this event in any capacity. He has never made an official announcement about participating in this event. We have contacted the organizers and requested to remove all promotional materials featuring his name and image." The federation's letter read, 'It is with a sense of deep concern and responsibility that the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) brings to your notice a matter involving your scheduled participation in an event titled Azadi Utsav – The Indian Independence Day to be held in Houston, USA, on 15th August 2025. As per the attached poster, you are being featured as the lead guest for this celebration." FWICE highlighted that the programme is being organised by Aga's Restaurant and Catering, owned by Pakistani national Mr. Shaukat Maredia. It further claimed that the same establishment is hosting a separate event to celebrate Pakistan's Independence Day on August 14. 'While such events are a source of pride and cultural expression for Indians abroad, we regret to inform you that this specific program is being organized by a Pakistani-owned restaurant… We believe you may not have been fully aware of the organizers' background or affiliations. If so, we strongly urge you to immediately withdraw your participation… If you were aware, it becomes a matter of even greater concern — and we expect a clarification and immediate distancing from such associations," the letter added. With his official statement, Kartik Aaryan has now put the speculation to rest. His team's swift action — including a request to the organisers to remove his name and image — aims to disassociate the actor from any unintended links. Meanwhile, Kartik is currently busy filming Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, a romantic drama directed by Satyaprem Ki Katha's Sameer Vidwans. Co-starring Ananya Panday, the film is slated to release on February 13, 2026. Their previous outing Pati Patni Aur Woh had stirred up fan interest, and the buzz around this Valentine's Day release is already building. Is Priyanka Chopra Making Her Bollywood Comeback With Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love And War?
Priyanka Chopra's recent throwback post about Ram Chahe Leela has sparked major speculation about her return to Bollywood. It's been a while since Priyanka Chopra graced the Hindi film screen — six years, to be precise. Ever since the global icon shifted base to the US in 2015, she's made only two Bollywood appearances, the most recent being The Sky Is Pink in 2019. But if recent speculation is to be believed, the desi girl might just be on the cusp of a long-awaited homecoming. On Friday, Chopra set the internet abuzz with a rare throwback post on Instagram — a tribute to her fiery dance number Ram Chahe Leela from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013). What stood out wasn't just the choice of memory but the unusually long, heartfelt caption that accompanied it — a rarity for the actor when it comes to revisiting past work. Sharing an insight into how the iconic number came to be, Priyanka wrote, 'When Sanjay Sir came to me with this song, it was a complicated decision, but he, as a filmmaker, has always inspired me. His creative mind, his nostalgic stories usually over incredible food, the conversations of art and music to dance… the beauty of the yesteryears but also what the future holds. And then he played the song… and I knew I was her." She went on to recall working with choreographer Vishnu Deva and cinematographer Ravi Varman, adding, 'Under Sanjay sir's guidance, Ravi Varman's cinematography shone, and Vishnu Deva's choreography was magic. Him and I would rehearse during lunch breaks every day to perfect the dance sequences. This brings back such great memories." While the post read like a sentimental throwback, it also sparked intense speculation online. Industry insiders began to wonder: Was this more than just nostalgia? Now, a source has confirmed to Hindustan Times that the post may, in fact, be a subtle nod to something on the horizon — a possible special appearance in Bhansali's next directorial, Love & War. According to the source, Priyanka may feature in a high-octane special number in the period war drama, which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal. While nothing has been officially signed yet, discussions are reportedly underway. If the collaboration materialises, it would mark Chopra's grand return to Hindi cinema — and that too with the very filmmaker who gave her one of her most celebrated dance numbers. Love & War, currently under production, is slated for release on March 20, 2026, and is being mounted on an epic scale. Reports suggest Bhansali is planning a face-off sequence between Ranbir and Vicky that could rival some of the most iconic scenes in Indian cinema history. Meanwhile, Priyanka is also committed to a major Indian production — SSMB29, her upcoming pan-India film with SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu. The ambitious venture also features Prithviraj Sukumaran, though the release date remains under wraps. The film is being pegged as one of the most anticipated cinematic events of the decade.
