Financial Highlights for Q1 2025:
Article content
Revenues of $1.9 million for Q1 2025 decreased 41% compared to the same period last year, primarily driven by reduced volumes (due to unexpected operating disturbances) resulting in lower tip fee revenue at the Company's organic waste and composting facilities. These declines were partially offset by increased RNG production and associated revenues from FVB and GrowTEC, as well as tip fee increases at the Company's composting facilities.
Net loss of $1.2 million for Q1 2025 improved by 11% compared to the same period last year, primarily due to lower direct operating costs, depreciation and amortization expense, and finance costs, partially offset by lower revenues and a decrease in insurance proceeds.
Adjusted EBITDA of $0.5 million for Q1 2025 decreased by $0.2 million compared to the same period last year, primarily due to reduced revenues and lower insurance proceeds, partially offset by a decrease in direct operating costs and an increase in non-recurring general and administrative expenses.
RNG production reached a new quarterly record in Q1 2025, driven by the continued ramp-up and stabilization of the FVB RNG expansion project. The FVB facility achieved monthly RNG production record exceeding 12,000 gigajoules (GJs) in both March and April 2025, surpassing the previous high of 11,186 GJs in September 2024. A daily production record of 640 GJs was also set in October 2024.

Demand for warehousing, other industrial leasing showing stress: CBRE
TORONTO — CBRE Ltd. says leasing trends for warehouses and other industrial properties are showing signs of business stress. The commercial real estate firm says national net lease absorptions turned negative in the second quarter, marking just the second time in five years a quarter has gone negative. CBRE says market players are citing the economic uncertainty from the trade war with the United States for the drop, though it's also coming after several years of booming growth. Paul Morassutti, chairman of CBRE Canada, says it's pretty clear from the news why the market is slowing, but that even without tariffs, a wave of space coming online will test the market. He says the pandemic-induced logistics rush that led to a speculative construction boom means rising availability through 2026, as the industrial market goes through right-sizing. The market had 1.4 million square feet of net negative absorption in the second quarter, a sharp reversal from the more than six million square feet of positive absorption seen every quarter between mid-2020 and the end of 2022. This report by The Canadian Press was first published July 2, 2025.

5 players ink 1-year contracts with Winnipeg Jets on 2nd day of NHL free agency
The Winnipeg Jets made a series of moves around the edges of their roster Wednesday, signing five players to identical one-year, two-way contracts worth $775,000 US in the NHL. The club inked forwards Phil Di Giuseppe, Walker Duehr and Samuel Fagemo, along with defenceman Kale Clague and goaltender Isaac Poulter. Di Guiseppe brings the most experience to the fold, with 81 points (28 goals, 53 assists) in 302 career NHL games playing for the Carolina Hurricanes, Nashville Predators, New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks. The 31-year-old from Toronto registered a goal and five assists in 20 games with Vancouver in 2024-25. He added nine points (four goals, five assists) in 20 contests for the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks before chipping in 11 points (six goals, five assists) across 24 playoff games as part of the team's Calder Cup victory. Duehr, 27, has 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists) in 92 career NHL games with the Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks, while the 25-year-old Fagemo has three goals and an assist across 21 contests split between the Predators and Los Angeles Kings. Clague, 27, has 21 points (two goals, 19 assists) in 94 career games with the Kings, Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres. The 23-year-old Poulter has yet to suit up in the NHL. He posted a 16-13-6 record with one shutout, an .898 save percentage and a 2.86 goals-against average for the AHL's Utica Comets last season. Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff had a quiet opening to NHL free agency Tuesday, signing unrestricted free agent forwards Cole Koepke and Tanner Pearson to one-year contracts worth $1 million each. Winnipeg's one-year deal with centre Jonathan Toews, who's attempting a comeback in his hometown, was also made official, while winger Nikolaj Ehlers continues to weigh his options on the unrestricted free agent market after a decade in the Manitoba capital.

B.C. to ease rules on builders to spur new housing construction
The British Columbia government is loosening the rules for payment of development fees in a bid to jump start home construction that has been hampered by upfront costs. Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon says among the biggest changes will be more flexible and extended payment timelines for homebuilders, so instead of paying development fees up front, they will pay 25 per cent at permit approval and 75 per cent when the building is occupied. Developers will also have four years, rather than two, to pay the charges, in rule changes that Kahlon says are needed because the current market conditions have stalled projects in the province. 2:01 Municipalities push back over latest provincial list of communities getting housing targets While some municipalities want letters of credit from a bank as a promise the work will be done, that can restrict a developer's access to credit, so the government will also change the regulations provincewide to allow for the financial guarantee of on-demand surety bonds. Story continues below advertisement Kahlon says the rule changes could mean the difference between some housing projects moving ahead or not happening at all, due to high construction costs and interest rates that create financial burden for builders. Sign up for breaking National newsletter Sign Up By providing your email address, you have read and agree to Global News' Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy Anne McMullin, president of the Urban Development Institute, says the requirement to pay development fees upfront has become increasingly onerous for builders, especially as fees rise and access to capital tightens. 'By shifting payment to occupancy, the provincial government is enabling more projects to move forward,' she told a news conference on Wednesday. 1:58 New realtor trends emerging as housing market cools In June, Vancouver-based Wesgroup Properties president Beau Jarvis said in a post on social media that the company had to lay off employees in what was a reflection of the broader realities facing the industry, with housing projects across the country being cancelled or delayed because they are no longer viable. Story continues below advertisement Jarvis said they were also delivering homes that people couldn't afford to purchase. 'I will say it again — This is a cost-of-delivery crisis,' he said on LinkedIn. Kahlon said those were exactly the type of concerns for homebuilding that the B.C. government is trying to address. 'It means housing will be built faster and cheaper in our communities,' Kahlon said. 'And these kind of solutions sound maybe not as grand, but they are significant in the sense that they will make the difference between projects happening and projects not happening.'
