Malaysia pushing for progress on South China Sea Code of Conduct, Myanmar Five-Point Consensus
The minister emphasised that Malaysia is also focused on deepening ties with strategic partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Europe, the United States (US) and beyond.
'The recent ASEAN–GCC–China Summit has also positioned our region as a bridge between Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.
'This trilateral partnership offers an opportunity to combine China's technology and infrastructure capacity, the GCC's energy and capital, and ASEAN's market and industrial dynamism into a new engine for growth and resilience,' he said in his keynote address at the ASEAN Business Forum 2025, here today.
The speech was delivered on Tengku Zafrul's behalf by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority's (MIDA) chief executive officer, Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid.
Tengku Zafrul said the newly established ASEAN Geoeconomics Task Force, co-chaired by Malaysia and Indonesia, is now fully operational.
He noted that the task force's mandate is to provide real-time economic analysis, scenario modelling, and coordinated policy recommendations to help ASEAN anticipate and mitigate economic risks and, where appropriate, turn them into opportunities.
'Additionally, our ministers have reaffirmed an unwavering commitment to a rules-based multilateral trading system, with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) at its core.
'Our joint statements underscore a mature, forward-looking approach as ASEAN will respond to external shocks not with retaliation, but with deeper engagement, open dialogue, and collective solutions,' he said.
Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul added that ASEAN's true superpower is the region's unity, resilience, and pragmatism.
'As the world undergoes a profound realignment, ASEAN's unity and centrality matter more than ever.
'From the Asian Financial Crisis to the pandemic to the present day, ASEAN has shown the world that collective action, trust, and shared purpose are the bedrock of our success,' he added.

Anwar to spend two days in Paris on inaugural visit as PM
PARIS: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will spend two days here in his inaugural visit to this European city as prime minister. The visit, at the invitation of French president Emmanuel Macron, includes a tete-a-tete between the two leaders, followed by a delegation meeting at the Elysee Palace. Asean Robot Challenge boosts regional youth innovation
KOTA BARU: The Asean Youth Robot Challenge 2025 (Asean Y-RoboC'25) is not just a robotics competition but a platform to highlight the importance of digital innovation and strengthen the preparedness of the future workforce, said Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh. She said the programme represents a regional movement that reflects the spirit of unity, creativity, and shared aspirations among Asean youth. "This programme is one of the key initiatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) in conjunction with Malaysia's Chairmanship of Asean 2025, under the theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability, bringing together youth from across Southeast Asia. "A total of 12 youth teams from 10 Asean member countries are participating in this edition, including Timor-Leste," she told reporters after launching the competition here today. She added that the programme also supports the Asean Work Plan on Youth 2021-2025, which focuses on strengthening digital skills, youth-driven innovation, and inclusive regional cooperation. On the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Career Day of the East Coast Zone Youth and Sports Skills Training Institutes (ILKBS), which was launched concurrently today, Hannah said the initiative connects graduates directly with industry players through dialogues, open interviews and the signing of memoranda of understanding involving 16 companies. According to her, the effort reflects the government's continuous commitment to enhancing graduate employability, in line with the National TVET Policy and Malaysia's aspiration to reach 35 per cent skilled workforce by 2030.
