Over 3,000 shows announced for 2025 Edinburgh Fringe Festival
Portobello Town Hall will also host acts for the first time, with a mini-festival to celebrate Palestinian art and culture, called Welcome to the Fringe, Palestine.The Famous Spiegeltent - a Belgian wood and canvas, mirrored venue dating back to the 19th century - will return to its traditional festival home in St Andrew Square.Another of the distinctive tents will set up in a car park at the Gyle Shopping centre, where an Italian company will present a circus show.
There are 325 free shows and 529 pay-what-you-can shows, and accommodation has been provided by several universities to make the Fringe more accessible to performers.Some 923 shows are from Scotland, predominantly from Edinburgh, with 657 acts represented, compared to 1,392 from the rest of the UK nations, while a total of 54 non-British nationalities are on the line-up.Tony Lankester, chief executive of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society, said: "This year's Fringe programme is filled with every kind of performance, so whether you're excited for theatre or circus, or the best of comedy, music, dance, children's shows, magic or cabaret; get ready to dare to discover this August."

Famous faces such as Miriam Margoyles, Jenny Eclair and Bill Bailey will all headline shows.Shows like Alice Hawkins - Working Class Suffragette at the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre explores a family connection with the campaign for democracy while VOTE the Musical at Paradise Green takes a "gripping look" at the Suffragettes, exploring activism and personal sacrifice, according to promoters.Jenna Stone's play Happy Ending Street, at Leith Arches, tells a story about three Scottish sex workers dreaming of escaping from their way of life.

EastEnders star reaches out after fan collapses during her performance
EastEnders star Michelle Collins has reached out to a fan who collapsed during her Edinburgh Fringe performance. The actress, 63, first appeared as devious Cindy Beale in 1988, with her most recent stint kicking off in 2023. Despite being presumed dead for 25 years, the schemer made a shock return and revealed she had been in witness protection. Now, swapping The Square for the stage, she's appearing in one woman show Motorhome Marilyn at the Fringe throughout August. The play – which is set in the 80s – follows a woman named Denise who aspires to be a Hollywood actress and follow in the footsteps of her idol Marilyn Monroe. She eventually makes the trip to Tinseltown, but her dreams are crushed and she's forced to confront the reality of her life. The character is based upon a real life encounter between Michelle and a woman who went by the name of Motorhome Marilyn. During a performance on Saturday night, the show had to be stopped just moments before its conclusion after an audience member fell ill. According to those watching, Michelle paused the show to offer water from the stage set. The following day, Michelle seemed delighted to receive an update from the unwell woman, who said she had made a full recovery. 'Hello, I am the one who fainted in the front row last night,' they began. 'First off, I am so sorry for ruining the end of your show. Second you were phenomenal and what I saw was amazing. And third, thank you for the water. 'Hope to come back and see the end!' Michelle responded: 'I am so relieved. Just seen this – I was only asking just now if anyone had heard anything about you. I hope it wasn't me talking about what I did that made you ill! 'It was all very worrying. Please let me know if you would like to come back I'll give you a seat and a hug.' Davina McCall ‘not afraid of dying' after brain tumour removed
Former Big Brother presenter Davina McCall has said she is 'not afraid of dying' after she underwent an operation to remove a benign brain tumour. In April, the 57-year-old confirmed her 'final MRI' had showed a colloid cyst, which she had removed in November 2024, is 'not coming back', after it was found when she was offered a health check-up as part of her menopause advocacy work. Advertisement McCall told Fearne Cotton's Happy Place podcast: 'I am not afraid of dying anymore and it was the biggest journey of my life. From August 23 to November 24 was an amazing time where something changed. 'Begin Again, the podcast I started to help other people on their journey of living a life that they love enough to feel on their deathbed, whenever that may be, that I have no regrets. McCall said her only concern around her death was how her family would cope. Photo: Ian West/PA. 'I have lived the life I wanted, and I'm not lying there going, 'I wish I'd done that thing, wish I'd done that job, I wish I'd not stayed in this relationship', all of those I haven't lived the life I want (things), and Begin Again is about just begin again and live the life you want.' McCall, who is a judge on ITV singing show The Masked Singer, said her only concern about death is how her family would cope. Advertisement Speaking about the time her tumour was found, she added: 'I thought I need to get my brain in the right place and that was to a place where I could be calm, and what did I need to do to do that? Were my kids going to be okay if I didn't make it? That's all I really cared about. 'I knew Michael (Douglas, her partner), Michael's a whole person, Michael's Michael, but I was really worried about my kids. 'I went forensic on thinking about my children and where they were at in their life, what stage they were at. You're only as happy as your unhappiest child, right? 'I came to a realisation after about six months of cross-examining them about their life and telling them the whole time how much I've loved my life. My eldest daughter kept caught on. She was like, 'you are not dying', I was like, 'no, no, no', I realised that they would be great. Advertisement 'They'd miss me and I want to be with them but they would be okay. I felt like I could go to sleep on the operating table and know that they were all here to help me, but I can let go of the outcome and it was the best gift. I am not afraid of dying.' After her surgery, McCall spent time in intensive care before recovering at home with the help of Douglas. She spoke about the removal of the tumour while co-presenting this year's Red Nose Day for Comic Relief and said it was 'the hardest thing I've ever been through'. According to the NHS, non-cancerous brain tumours are more common in people over the age of 50, and symptoms include headaches, vision problems and drowsiness, and some can be 'difficult to remove without damaging surrounding tissue'. Advertisement McCall, the host of reality dating show My Mum, Your Dad, has long advocated for women's health issues, and has presented a documentary called Sex, Myths And The Menopause and another on contraception called Davina McCall's Pill Revolution. She became an MBE in the King's birthday honours for services to broadcasting in 2023 and was given a special recognition gong at the National Television Awards in 2024 for her broadcasting career. LOVE Island fans have backed the brutal dumping of Meg Moore and Dejon Noel-Williams ahead of tonight's final. Five couples remain in the show, including bookies favourites Toni Laites and Cach Mercer, and Shakira Khan and Harry Cooksley.
