Brampton man charged with impaired driving after crash leaves 1 dead, another injured
A 23-year-old Brampton man has been charged with impaired driving after a fatal collision in Caledon early Sunday morning, police say.
Caledon OPP and emergency crews responded to the collision on Bramalea Road, near Boston Mills Road, shortly after 1:30 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Sunday.
The car was on fire when paramedics arrived, a spokesperson for Peel Paramedics said.
Three people were in the vehicle at the time, one who had to be extricated by fire crews and another who exited on their own, the spokesperson said.
A 21-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene once the fire was extinguished.
Another passenger was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious, life-threatening injuries.
The 23-year-old driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later arrested after officers determined he was driving while impaired by alcohol, police said in the release.
He's since been charged with impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm and obstructing a police officer.
