Texas A&M fans celebrate Jace LaViolette's historic college career
It's unofficially official that Texas A&M junior outfielder Jace LaViolette's playing days in the Maroon & White have ended. With him projected as a top-15 pick, MLB is calling his name, and he hears it loud and clear, posting his farewell message to Aggieland on social media.
We all knew this day was coming. Even with hope that NIL deals could persuade him to stay, the writing was on the wall after his breakout freshman year, his draft entry was inevitable. So, it's best to wish him well and cherish the memorable moments he gave fans over three years.
The All-American leaves A&M as the career leader in home runs (68), walks (169), and ranks third in RBIs (202). Even after a challenging season, he finished the year on his terms. After suffering a broken hand from a pitch in the SEC tournament, he could've easily shut it down without second thoughts. However, he fought through the pain, returned the next day, and collected a few hits against a strong LSU pitching staff.
For the extremely optimistic Aggie fans, there's a .01% chance LaViolette has a change of heart, declines his MLB contract, and returns to A&M. Anything can happen, but for now, we wish Jace a successful and healthy pro career.

Walker's clutch hit in the ninth lifts Astros over Diamondbacks for sweep
PHOENIX (AP) — Christian Walker singled home the go-ahead run in the ninth inning and the Houston Astros beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 on Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep. Zack Short and Taylor Trammell started the ninth with bunt singles against Kevin Ginkel (1-4). One out later, Walker, a former Diamondback, hit a grounder up the middle to score Short. Josh Hader pitched the ninth for his 27th save and the Astros, who have won four in a row took a six-game lead in the AL West. Arizona trailed 3-1 entering the eighth, but Geraldo Perdomo led off with a double off reliever Bennett Sousa (4-0). Ketel Marte singled to drive in Perdomo, Corbin Carroll doubled to right sending Marte to third. Marte scored the tying run on Josh Naylor's single. Brandon Walter had held the Diamondbacks to one run and four hits in seven innings. He walked one and struck out five, throwing just 82 pitches. Marte hit Walter's first pitch of the game for a home run, his 20th of the season. The Astros scored twice in the sixth. Walker led off with a double off Brandon Pfaadt, then advanced to third when Yainer Diaz also doubled. But Walker scored when shortstop Perdomo booted Brice Matthews' grounder for an error. Diaz scored the go-ahead run on reliever Andrew Saalfrank's wild pitch. Houston made it 3-1 when Diaz doubled off Trevor Richards leading off the eighth and scored on Mauricio Dubón's single. Perdomo went 4 for 4. Key moment Sousa got Arizona's Randal Grichuk to hit into a double play with the bases loaded to end the eighth. Key stat Walter has only walked four batters in 53 2/3 innings this season. Next Arizona is off Thursday before beginning a nine-game trip Friday in Pittsburgh. Miami Northwestern football players ask school board to reinstate Teddy Bridgewater
During the public forum of Wednesday's Miami-Dade school board meeting, several football players from Miami Northwestern High asked the school board to reinstate the school's head football coach, Teddy Bridgewater. They told the board members about how much Bridgewater inspired and believed in them and how he turned the football team into a family. The former Miami Dolphins quarterback was suspended by his alma mater after he posted on social media that he paid for players' Uber rides, which is considered 'impermissible benefits' by the Florida High School Athletic Association's rules. He taught us about manhood, discipline and character,' said Miami Northwestern football player Anthony Bell during the public comment portion of Wednesday's school board meeting. 'He gave us rides when we didn't have no way to get to practice and the way going back home. He made sure we had meals. He connected us with colleges we never thought we'd have access to. He's gone above and beyond. Not because he had to but because he wanted to. He used his platform as a former NFL player to shine a spotlight on our team and because of that we are finally being seen.' 'Please don't take away one of the few people that cares about our future.' Stephen Rivera, a barber who has been volunteering to offer haircuts to student athletes at Miami Northwestern, was in tears as he stood at the podium and spoke into the microphone about Bridgewater. 'Teddy is a true leader. He elevates and gives back the way he can. We should not be suspending him, but celebrating his efforts to give kids hope,' said Rivera. Bridgewater led Miami Northwestern back to prominence last season, guiding them to their first state title since 2019 and their ninth overall. Northwestern had gone 4-6 the previous season and missed the playoffs. Student athlete Amir Day said his team would not have won the championship without Bridgewater. 'Why suspend a coach for giving back to his team?' 'He is building up young men and teaching us our value,' added Day. School board member Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall thanked the speakers and said she was advised by the general counsel for the school district, Walter Harvey, not to comment further as an investigation is underway by the Florida High School Athletic Association. Bridgewater confirmed the suspension via a post on his Facebook page earlier this month. The post did not specify the length of the suspension, but according to a source connected to the South Florida football scene, Bridgewater will not be allowed to coach the Bulls this coming season. During the meeting several parents also took to the podium to ask that the school board investigate Miami Northwestern's booster organization. They accused the organization of misspending money donated to support the football team. 'How much money have they raised? Who has access to it? Where are receipts and invoices?' said Latoyah David, a parent. The Florida Board of Education has already reached out over the past week to Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Jose L. Dotres demanding Bridgewater's reinstatement. A petition was also started recently by Katherine Higgs-Palmer, a 1978 graduate of Miami Northwestern, on which has drawn over 2,300 signatures as of Wednesday night. 'According to multiple reports and firsthand accounts from students and parents, Coach Bridgewater's impact extends beyond the football field,' Higgs-Palmer wrote on the petition's website. 'His dedication to improving students' lives through education and personal mentoring is unparalleled. It's imperative to recognize that his presence is crucial in guiding our young athletes towards success, both in their sports and academic endeavors. 'By reinstating Teddy Bridgewater, we reaffirm our commitment to the values that have always made Miami Northwestern great: excellence, leadership, and community. In these trying times, his leadership is needed more than ever to steer our young athletes in the right direction and continue building a legacy of achievement and integrity.'

Tanner Gordon's 6 scoreless innings help Rockies beat Cardinals for their 1st shutout of the season
DENVER (AP) — Tanner Gordon pitched six scoreless innings and Ezequiel Tovar hit a home run to help the Colorado Rockies beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0 on Wednesday and win back-to-back series for the first time since Sept. 13-18, 2024. Gordon (2-2) gave up four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Jimmy Herget threw two innings of one-hit relief before Tyler Kinley pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. The trio combined for Colorado's first shutout of the season. The Rockies hit five consecutive singles in their four-run second inning off St. Louis starter Andre Pallante (5-7) and Jordan Beck added an RBI double in the fifth to make it 5-0. Tovar's solo shot in the eighth capped the scoring. Germán Márquez, who was scheduled to start for Colorado, was moved to the 15-day IL earlier Wednesday due to right biceps tendinitis. The Cardinals snapped their streak of scoring at least four runs in 11 straight games at Coors Field since Oliver Marmol became manager in 2021. Ryan McMahon drew a leadoff walk and, after Tovar flied out, Austin Nola, Kyle Farmer, Adael Amador, Tyler Freeman and Mickey Moniak hit five consecutive singles to give the Rockies a 4-0 lead in the second.
