Celtic star suffers nightmare on international stage as he gifts ex-Rangers boss shock result with stoppage time blunder

CELTIC star Alistair Johnston had another nightmare on his return to action as 77-year-old former Rangers boss Dick Advocaat pulled off a shock against Canada.
The Hoops defender missed the crucial final penalty in the Scottish Cup Final which meant Aberdeen won the trophy at Hampden last month.

He was nursing a minor back injury and returned to action this weekend at the Gold Cup against Caribbean minnows Curacao, who are now managed by Advocaat, after he came out of retirement for the fifth time to take charge of his eighth international country earlier this year.
But after coming on as a late sub, he gave the ball away to former PSV Eindhoven striker Jeremy Antonisse deep into injury time who netted to claim a remarkable 1-1 draw in Houston and speak off scenes of celebration for the tiny nation.
Johnston was absent for the tournament opener against Honduras, as well as the recent friendlies against Ukraine and Ivory Coast.
Last night was his 54th cap and it was a rare mistake from the right-back who is usually Mr Reliable at the back for Canada.
Advocaat - who has now managed the Netherlands three times, Belgium, Russia, Serbia, South Korea, Iraq, UAE and now Curacao - said: "That was a great achievement for us to get a draw against a huge country like Canada.
"But it was the least we deserved and credit to the players."
Canada still sit top of Group B with four points, while Advocaat's side are sitting in third - one point behind Honduras - with two points.
Canada lifted the cup back in 2000 and will be hoping to replicate that triumph this year with their current crop of top stars.
They reached the semi-final in 2021 and Johnston was involved in the squad after being called up to the senior team for the first time in January that year.
The final of this year's competition will be played on July 7 - three days after Celtic are due to face Queen's Park in a pre-season friendly.

It was a move that symbolised a name being removed from a club's history. But I still laugh at the day when I was sitting in his office in Edinburgh and he called on his secretary to bring me in a bottle of wine to take home as a present. And he told her to make it a good one. Of course, I Googled the name on the bottle later on to see just how expensive it was. Then I could decide whether I could drink it or put it up on eBay. That was his first outing in over a year after failing to make a single appearance in Brendan Rodgers' team last season. He did feature in pre-season against Queen's Park but his last competitive game for the Hoops came in the final game of the 2023/24 season against St Mirren - replacing Joe Hart in the dying moments of the contest. Bain has made it clear he hopes to change that this year in the Premiership with his new team and manager John McGlynn. But he didn't pain himself in the best light in latest appearance for the Bairns as he shipped THREE goals in one half against a Scottish League Two outfit. Falkirk hosted Edinburgh City and it finished 3-2 after a pretty end-to-end showdown, with the League Two side coming out on top - both in the first half and at full-time. The Bairns found themselves 3-0 down at the interval following an electric start from City. Tiwi Daramola netted a brace with James Stokes scoring as well to take a commanding lead at the break. It was a shock first half showing from the newly-promoted Premiership side after McGlynn named a very strong starting XI. Former Rangers star Scott Arfield started the game and pulled one back following the restart, with Sean Mackie the other goal-scorer for the hosts. Falkirk boss John McGlynn on his one remaining management dream and how his PLUMBING skills were put to use Speaking after sealing his move to Falkirk, Bain outlined his reasons for leaving his Celtic. He said: 'I think I was getting to the age now, where if I stayed on at Celtic for another year, as much as I loved being there and loved the club, I would have been another year older and it would have been harder to get back to playing regular football. 'A big thing for me was for my fiancé and little boy potentially getting the chance to come and watch me play, which will be a different experience for them than it's been for the last couple of years. 'So that was a big factor, as was getting the chance to come to Falkirk and work under the manager and the staff here. 'Seeing how well the club is run, was another big factor in me coming here.' Celtic strongest starting XI following £1.2m arrival and Nicolas Kuhn transfer exit links
Celtic are entering a crucial summer as Brendan Rodgers looks to build a squad that can continue their dominance of the Scottish Premiership and reach the knockout stages of next season's UEFA Champions League.
