2025 National Games: real-name ticket system may be used, Hong Kong office says
Yeung Tak-keung, head of the National Games Coordination Office, said on Saturday that tickets would be sold from August on a unified platform for events to be held in the city, Macau and Guangdong province in November.
'It is estimated that the ticket prices will range from a few dozen dollars to about HK$500 at most, depending on the event, such as the preliminary or final round, and also the number of seats,' he said on a televised programme.
'We will try our best to set the ticket price to a level that is acceptable to all residents.'
Yeung said the local office was discussing ticketing details with authorities from Macau and Guangdong, including whether a real-name system would be used as well as other measures to combat scalpers.
'Whether the tickets could be transferred, whether to use a real-name system and how to crack down on scalpers will all be carefully considered,' he said, adding that more details would be released later.

Jockey Club CEO Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges at the signing ceremony marking the club's additional support for the National Games. Photo: HKJC This help is in addition to the HK$450 million the club will provide to the city to support its co-hosting of the Games in November The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced on Tuesday that it would provide 'high-quality technical support' to the tune of 50 million yuan (US$6.9 million) for the equestrian events at the National Games later this year. This help would be in addition to the HK$450 million (US$57.3 million) the club planned provide as the sole partner sponsor for the Hong Kong competition region. There would also be support for the National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the National Special Olympic Games in the Guangdong competition region. In a press release, the club said its contribution reflected 'its support for national sporting events and its commitment to promoting sports development in collaboration with mainland authorities'. The club said it would provide technical support to the equestrian events of the National Games in six areas: venue design, horse welfare, anti-doping measures, stable management, event service and support, and publicity and community engagement. The club would also deploy an expert team to provide support and equipment for the events, with the aim of helping to ensure the events are conducted to a high standard. In addition, HKJC would support official activities, volunteer services and promotional work in the Guangdong Competition Region. To mark the occasion, a signing ceremony was held at the club's Sha Tin Clubhouse. Among those attending were Cui Jian, the director general of the Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau, Li Shuguang, the deputy director general of the Department of Publicity, Cultural and Sports Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HK SAR, and Yeung Tak-keung, head of the National Games Coordination Office in Hong Kong. Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the Jockey Club's CEO, said the club had long been a staunch supporter of the nation's major sports events, including the equestrian events of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games and the recent 19th Hangzhou Asian Games. He said the club hoped its participation would 'not only contribute to the Games' success but also further develop equestrian sport at the national level', especially within the Greater Bay Area. Cui said the club's support, including for volunteer services and promotional campaigns in the Guangdong Competition Region, had helped advance the vision of a 'green, inclusive, open and clean' National Games. He added that Guangdong and Hong Kong had always stood 'together with one heart' and he encouraged continued collaboration. The National Games, held once every four years, is the nation's largest multi-sports event. This year will be the first time Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau will be co-hosts. The National Games will be held from November 9 to November 21, with the equestrian events taking place in Shenzhen's Guangming District from November 10 to 19. The two other competitions will take place from December 8 to 15.

James Orman bags first Hong Kong double as Manfred Man snares rare treble
James Orman was left pinching himself after landing his first Hong Kong double at Sha Tin on Tuesday evening. Orman has chipped away since arriving in Hong Kong as injury cover in February, compiling 11 winners from 206 rides to earn himself a contract through to February next year. 'First double – pinching myself really,' said Orman after booting home Wonderstar and Pakistan Legacy. 'It's a good thrill to build a bit of momentum. Hopefully I can keep it rolling.' Congratulations, @JimmyOrman! ✌️ Pakistan Legacy fires the Australian rider to a first Hong Kong double at Sha Tin, toughing out victory in the iconic set of green and white silks over Bundle Of Charm... 🇵🇰#SummerSeries | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 1, 2025 Undefeated from two pre-import starts in Australia, Pakistan Legacy broke through in Hong Kong at start six after not going around another horse from barrier one in the Class Three Sportsmanship Handicap (1,200m). Settled in the box seat by Orman, Pakistan Legacy scraped the paint turning for home and found enough late to hold off Bundle Of Charm by a head. 'I thought he was a good chance. He's been running well [and] he had blinkers on. The race didn't really work out how I was expecting [but] he did a good job.' The Chris So Wai-yin-trained Pakistan Legacy was completing Orman's brace after the earlier success of Wonderstar for Me Tsui Yu-sak in the Class Four Serving The Community Handicap (1,200m). Urged to lead by Orman, Wonderstar controlled proceedings from the front before galloping his rivals into the ground in the home straight and saluting by a length and a half. The in-form Ellis Wong Chi-wang also notched a milestone, landing his 50th Hong Kong victory with success aboard the Manfred Man Ka-leung-trained We Are Hero in the Class Three Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup (1,000m). We Are Hero was the opening leg of Man's first treble in nearly a decade, with the handler moving to 43 victories for the season and within one of his personal-best tally in a campaign. Close finish! 😱 We Are Hero launches late to land the Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin, marking a milestone 50 wins in Hong Kong for apprentice @elliswong05... 🍾#SummerSeries | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 1, 2025 It all happened in a hurry for Man, too, with We Are Hero saluting in the seventh event before Pearl Of Pang's claimed the Class Four Riding High Together Handicap (1,600m) one race later and Yuen Long Elite bagged the finale, the Class Three Better Future Handicap (1,600m). 'Three winners for me is a big day,' said Man after his first three-timer since 2016. 'I think I can break my record.' Earlier on the card, Luke Ferraris ended a 35-ride run of outs with victory aboard Amazing Galaxy for Jimmy Ting Koon-ho in the Class Four World-Cup Leadership Handicap (1,000m). Shooting star! 'It's nice to end a dry month and start off July with a winner. I'm really pleased for Jimmy, the horse is in good form and he won with a bit of authority.' Finally, Francis Lui Kin-wai's Meaningful Dragon ensured Six Up and Triple Trio jackpots by claiming the Class Four Continuous Development Handicap (1,400m) at $80.3 under Antoine Hamelin.

Hat-trick hero Light Years Charm set for Group assignments after clinical Sha Tin win
David Eustace's rising star could head to the Celebration Cup to kick off next season Light Years Charm has Group racing in his future after scything his way through the field to win the Class Two Hong Kong Reunification Cup (1,400m) at Sha Tin on Tuesday. The David Eustace-trained improver always travelled best one from the rear under Zac Purton and despite turning widest of all into the straight, the top jockey was full of both rein and confidence. When unleashed, the Rubick galloper surged into the lead at the 100m pole before holding off a challenge from the equally fast-finishing Mickley to win by a head. On a day when making ground was tricky, the effort can be upgraded and Eustace already has Group racing in his thoughts, though a step up in trip might be on the back burner. Enormous win, Light Years Charm! 🤯@EustaceRacing's improving 4YO scores back-to-back Class 2 victories at Sha Tin, toughing out close-up victory over Mickley in the Hong Kong Reunification Cup at Sha Tin under leading rider @zpurton... 🏆#SummerSeries | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 1, 2025 'He doesn't do it the easy way but he just travels so well in his races and he's able to quicken off it,' said Eustace. 'To come from close to last – the second horse has obviously run very well with no weight – and do it carrying a bit more weight today against what I thought was a very strong field was a really good effort. 'We'll put him away now. It really does look like 1,400m is his trip. I know he gets back and runs on but he doesn't actually really look like he wants a mile. There's really no need to change it now. 'There is [the Group Three Celebration Cup (1,400m)] at the end of September, which looks like the logical kick-off point. We'll hope that he pulls up well, give him a break and plan for next season.' For jockey Purton, it was a straightforward assignment on a horse that is quickly building into a potential star. 'It was pretty straightforward. He got out of the gates OK for him and he was in a lovely rhythm the whole race, handled the ground really well and he was just able to come into it with a nice-timed run,' Purton said. 'He had to stave off the challenger the last 100m. He did a really good job to keep sticking his head out. 'David has done an exceptionally good job with him to bring him this far in his first season and they did a good job to find him – he came out of Lismore. It was well spotted by the agents.' Unsurprisingly, it completed another double for champion jockey Purton, who kicked off the card with victory on Gold Tack in the Class Five Racing Goes On Handicap (1,800m). Gold Tack holds on at Sha Tin! The galloper is off the mark in Hong Kong at his 30th try, capturing the opener for champion jockey @zpurton and David Hall... 👏#SummerSeries | #HKracing — HKJC Racing (@HKJC_Racing) July 1, 2025 The David Hall-trained six-year-old was zero from 29 heading into the race but was in no mood to extend the sequence to 30, always travelling kindly on long-time leader Lapras' shoulder. Off the turn, Purton asked the $6.8 shot to extend and his partner duly obliged, quickly spurting into the lead and holding off the fast-charging Mr Aladdin by half a length. 'He's had a couple of good runs recently and has been very consistent, so it was just a matter of time before he was going to get the win – at his 30th attempt it seems like waiting forever,' said Hall. 'He's a pretty limited little horse but he's had six seconds so it's nice to see him get the win. He had colic surgery at the end of last season and he pulled through that really well, so it's great for the owners – who had the patience to wait – to get a deserved win.'
