‘Andor' creator reveals why they recast major ‘Star Wars' character in Season 2
There's a new Senator Bail Organa in the galaxy.
The role of Princess Leia's adoptive father was recast in the second season of the hit 'Star Wars' series 'Andor.'
Benjamin Bratt officially stepped into the role in place of Jimmy Smits in the sixth episode that premiered on Disney+ Tuesday.

Creator Tony Gilroy told Entertainment Weekly that they failed to get Smits, 69, to return as Bail.
'We couldn't work it out,' said Gilroy, 68. 'The scheduling didn't work out. We really tried hard, but he wasn't available and couldn't make it.'

'Bringing back legacy characters is really complicated,' the filmmaker continued. 'It's very expensive. It's very, who's working when. A lot of effort went into it, but we just couldn't work it out scheduling wise.'
Gilroy added to ScreenRant, 'It's really hard to bring legacy characters back for a whole variety of reasons. Money and scheduling and I mean, he [Smits] just wasn't available. It didn't work out. He was doing his other show and we were under the gun and they couldn't work it out. They just couldn't work it out. Believe me, we really tried, but it couldn't happen.'

Smits was busy shooting his CBS show 'East New York' during the filming of 'Andor' Season 2.
The actor made his debut in the 'Star Wars' franchise in 'Episode II: Attack of the Clones' (2002). He played Bail again in 'Episode III: Revenge of the Sith' (2005), 'Rogue One' (2016) and the Disney+ miniseries 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' (2022).
Bail was first referenced in 'Episode IV: A New Hope' (1977), in which he's killed when the Death Star blows up his home planet Alderaan.

Gilroy told EW that LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy came up with the idea to cast Bratt, 61, as the senator.
'It was just a brilliant idea. He's a wonderful human being and really eager and beloved on set and really happy about what he does,' said Gilroy.

The Oscar-nominated director also shared that Bratt's brief appearance in Episode 6 of 'Andor' Season 2 was 'so people will get the conversation out of the way until the next week when he really starts to work.'
'It's one of those situations where I want to do something simple,' Gilroy continued. 'We don't do many things that are unnecessary, but it's like, 'Let's get him in here now so people can discuss it for a week and get it out of their system and then he can come back to really work.' I didn't want the guy's work to be confused with his introduction.'

'Andor' stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor in his journey from thief to rebel spy.
The series is set several years before the events of 'Rogue One,' which explains how the Rebellion steal the plans to the Death Star which they destroy in 'A New Hope.'
New episodes of 'Andor' Season 2 come out Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on Disney+.

Mark Hamill Says There's No Beef With Rian Johnson Despite ‘Last Jedi' Disagreement: He Made a ‘Great Movie' and ‘Maybe I Should've Kept' My Luke Skywalker Criticisms to Myself
Mark Hamill recently appeared on the 'Bullseye with Jesse Thorn' podcast (via IGN) to promote his latest movie, Mike Flanagan's 'The Life of Chuck,' and cleared up some of the confusion surrounding his thoughts on Rian Johnson's divisive 'Star Wars' movie 'The Last Jedi.' Hamill returned as Luke Skywalker in the film, although he was not the hero some fans remembered. This Luke was a miserable, hardened recluse living in self-imposed exile after his protege, Ben Solo, joined the dark side and became Kylo Ren. Luke blamed himself. In interviews after 'The Last Jedi' opened in theaters, Hamill was honest about not loving this direction Johnson took with his character. He told Comic Book at the time that he 'still hasn't accepted' what happened to Luke and opposed such a dark heel turn. But in the new podcast interview, Hamill stressed that Johnson made 'a great movie' with 'The Last Jedi,' adding: 'I'd love to clear this up. … Rian Johnson is one of the most gifted directors I've ever worked with.' More from Variety 'Rogue One' Director Says 'I'm Happy to Move on' From 'Star Wars' and 'I Don't Agree' It's the Best Movie of Disney's Lucasfilm Era 'Star Wars' Boss Says It's 'Remarkable' the 'First Print' of George Lucas' 1977 Original Was Found and Screened After Decades; Discovery Called a 'Miracle' Diego Luna and Tony Gilroy on How 'Andor' Crafted the Ghorman Massacre and Fulfilled a 'Critical Moment in Rebel History' 'The fact that I went public with my dissatisfaction with the motivation for Luke becoming a suicidal hermit might have colored things in a way that, maybe I should have kept that to myself,' Hamill admitted. 'But I kept saying to Rian, 'This would just make Luke double down even…' and he said, 'Well, your class at the Jedi Academy were wiped out.' I said, 'Rian, I saw entire planets wiped out! If anything, Luke doubles down and hardens his resolve in the face of adversity.' So that's all.' Hamill believed Luke would become even more of a hero and an advocate for the Jedi in the wake of Ben Solo's betrayal. In order to go in the complete opposite direction that Johnson scripted, Hamill needed to convince himself that Luke was possible of such darkness. 'I said, 'Can I make up my own backstory of why he is the way he is? I don't want to just say that I have bumped my head and I have brain damage,'' Hamill said. [Rian] said, 'Yeah, do whatever you want.' So I made up a much, much darker backstory that I thought could justify him being that way.' 'I thought, 'What could make someone give up a devotion to what is basically a religious entity, to give up being a Jedi?'' Hamill then explained. 'Well, the love of a woman. So he falls in love with a woman. He gives up being a Jedi. They have a child together. At some point the child, as a toddler, picks up an unattended lightsaber, pushes the button and is killed instantly. The wife is so full of grief, she kills herself. I thought, that would be. … Because I hear these horrible stories about these children who find unattended guns and wind up dead. That resonated with me so deeply. … But [Rian] didn't have the time to tell a backstory like that, I'm guessing. He just wanted a brief thing to explain it. And to me, it didn't justify it.' 'That said — and I told [Rian] this — despite the fact that I disagree with your choices for Luke, I'm going to do everything within my power to make your screenplay work as best as I can,' Hamill added. 'And the only thing unfortunate about that is, I've heard comments from fans who think that I somehow dislike Rian Johnson, and nothing could be further from the truth.' Luke died in 'The Last Jedi,' although Hamill continued with the 'Star Wars' franchise by appearing as a Force Ghost in 'The Rise of Skywalker' and then using de-aging technology to appear as a young Luke in the series 'The Mandalorian' and 'The Book of Boba Fett.' Hamill told Comic Book earlier this year he has no plans to return as Luke. 'I had my time,' Hamill said. 'I'm appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.' Listen to Hamill's full interview on the 'Bullseye with Jesse Thorn' podcast here. Disney price target raised to $140 from $120 at Guggenheim
Guggenheim raised the firm's price target on Disney (DIS) to $140 from $120 and keeps a Buy rating on the shares. The firm, which updated its Disney model to better reflect a refined operating expense outlook at Linear Networks, modestly lower theatrical revenue from relative underperformance of recent films, better than previously forecast Sports advertising revenue and 'relatively resilient' attendance and travel trends in the Experiences segment, notes that it lifted its full year segment operating income forecast to $17.7B from $17.6B, which is 'modestly ahead' of consensus $17.65B. With Hulu now fully under Disney control, the firm views the company as 'well positioned to pursue a unified direct-to-consumer strategy' and further lean into bundle packaging to drive incremental revenue, the analyst added.
