MLW star Donovan Dijak eyes world title at Battle Riot VII, sets high expectations for company's growth
It will be the fourth rumble-type event of Dijak's career, having competed in OTT Loco Rumble in February, NEW Over The Top 2017 and DREAMWAVE Good as Gold Rumble in 2016. He told Fox News Digital in a recent interview he was even more excited that Battle Riot had more stakes attached to it.
"It's super exciting, especially now that it's for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship, which in my eyes is the most prestigious championship in all of professional wrestling. I can't wait to get an opportunity and capitalize on obtaining that," he said.
"Obviously, always a great event. You never quite know who's going to come out, but you know for sure that I'm going to be there. So, once the dust has settled, I think I'm going to be standing holding that MLW World Championship, and I'm super excited for that opportunity. I can't wait to put the company on my back, right on my shoulders, and carry us through the entire year.
Dijak made his debut in August at Summer of the Beasts in New York City and, since then, he's made his presence felt in MLW.
He defeated Tom Lawlor at SuperFight 6 and topped KENTA at Kings of Colosseum but lost to Matt Riddle at Eric Bischoff's One Shot in December via disqualification.
Riddle is now in the precarious position of having to defend his title against 39 other men. For Dijak to win, "it would mean everything" to him.
"I'm not a person who's had a lot of championships to my name," he told Fox News Digital. "I haven't had a ton of championship-sort-of-accolades attached to me. I've been very vocal in the fact that in terms of the grand scheme of professional wrestling, there's not really anybody, not just now, but pretty much ever, that has had the success that I've had in the professional wrestling industry without any sort of major championship accolades to go along with it.
"I almost have a point of pride at this point because it's like I view myself as one of the – and not just myself, but I think most people would view me as one of the top talents in the world of professional wrestling. So, the fact that I'm able to do that without the flagship of a major championship attached really speaks as a testament to my own sacrifice and dedication and hard work to the professional wrestling industry."
Dijak made clear that being with MLW for nearly eight months has been an "absolute pleasure."
"They give me the time and the focus and the dedication that I reciprocate to them. So, it is very much a collaborative effort on both sides of that, and I'm truly appreciative for that level of investment and that level of dedication, because that's what I love about professional wrestling," he said. "I love that nobody's right, nobody's wrong. We all work together to figure out what we think is the best possible situation and presentation, and I love that we're all on the same page in terms of that.
"I think that the fans, ultimately, are the ones who get the payoff for that because they get to experience the product of so many intelligent minds working together."
MLW is one of the top wrestling promotions in the U.S. competing for time and space in the industry's landscape with the competition seemingly stiffening even more over the last year.
Dijak said MLW has been on a "constant trajectory upward for a very long time" and expects the trend to go even higher over the next few months.
"I'm the type of person who is never satiated or satisfied with what's currently happening," he told Fox News Digital. "I'm always looking two steps ahead, three steps ahead, four steps ahead. So I'm worried about next month, I'm worried about six months from now, next year or two years. I'm always looking forward and thinking about how can we improve and how can increase, and that's going to continue to be my goal.
"And I know that if I'm given the opportunity to sort of spearhead that and lead that charge, that's going to create unprecedented growth and opportunity."
MLW's Battle Riot VII takes place at Thunder Studios in Long Beach, California, on Saturday night. The event can also be seen on YouTube at 10 p.m. ET.
Bishop Dyer, Anthony Greene, Jesus Rodriguez, Paul London, Paul Walter Hauser and Brett Ryan Gosselin are just some of the other participants.

‘Little House on the Prairie' star Melissa Gilbert admits it was ‘horrible' dating Rob Lowe during his heartthrob era
Melissa Gilbert is reflecting on her past love life. During an appearance on the 'I Choose Me With Jennie Garth' podcast, the 'Little House on the Prairie' star got candid about navigating fame from a young age and explained how dating Rob Lowe impacted her view on relationships moving forward. Advertisement 'I guess looking back on those six years, I mean, I was such a baby when Rob and I were together,' said Gilbert, who dated Lowe on and off from when she was 17 to 23. 'It was very tumultuous. I felt like a bit of an old sage in the business at that point because I'd been doing it for so long. And I was still on 'Little House on the Prairie' when we met, and it had already been years, and he was sort of starting out.' 'He'd done a little bit of television. And so I was able to sort of sit back and watch this meteoric rise happen. I don't think I was prepared for the stuff that came with it, necessarily. I was prepared for all of having to go to premieres and things and award shows and all of that, but I wasn't prepared for the fandom and, frankly, the girls.' 'I always thought that every girl and woman was my sister. We're sisters, but it was not evident at all when Rob and I were a couple. I mean, it was like I didn't exist. They just pushed right past me and stuck phone numbers in his pockets and stuff.' Gilbert admitted that period of her life was difficult. Advertisement 'To say it was disconcerting is doing it a big disservice,' she said. 'It was hard and horrible.' 'I think I learned a lot about what didn't work for me, actually, and what I wouldn't stand for later on,' she said. 'They're hard because they usually are born of heartbreak and angst, but those are really valuable and important lessons… We had some really, really, really fun times.' Last year, Gilbert – who landed the role of Laura Ingalls Wilder at the age of 9 – opened up about her decision to leave Hollywood. 'All of the pressures, I faced all of them,' Gilbert explained to People magazine at the time. 'When you live in Los Angeles, it's like living at the mall when you work at the mall. Literally, everyone is in the business. When you walk into a restaurant, every head turns to see who walked in. Everybody's always looking, curious, competing and that's a really difficult thing, especially for a female actor. It puts a lot of pressure on staying thin and staying young, and really it makes it hard to feel comfortable in one's own skin, because [of] the aging process.' Advertisement 3 Gilbert dated Lowe on-and-off for six years. Getty Images 'No matter how much we push it downstream, it's inevitable,' she continued. 'So are you going to age comfortably and happily? Are you going to fight it, be unhealthy and feel like there's something wrong with you for aging and that you're defective because you've gotten older?' Gilbert and her husband, actor Timothy Busfield, moved to Michigan in 2013. The actress spent the next few years without Botox or facial fillers. She even had her breast implants removed in 2015. The 60-year-old film producer emphasized aging is a 'blessing.' 'I had to get out of there [L.A.], because it felt like I was not being authentically myself,' she told People. 'In the five years that I was in Michigan, all of that stopped. … I stopped everything and just focused on being as physically and emotionally healthy as I could. And I think that shows, 'Yes, I'm aging, but it's not a curse — it's a blessing.''

WWE SummerSlam 2025 Full Card, Date Time And Watch Info - Nights 1 & 2
As we head into the final episode of SmackDown before the two-day SummerSlam extravaganza, there appear to be six matches set per night. Here are the matches, what to expect, as well as viewing information for both SummerSlam 2025 – Night 1 - August 2 at 7pm ET on Peacock World Heavyweight Championship Gunther (c) vs. CM Punk This seems like a great spot for Punk to win his world title. However, I do envision his wife AJ Lee returning to WWE sometime soon. I'm not sure when that will happen, but I'd be shocked if she isn't a part of a major angle teaming her with Punk against Seth Rollins and his real-life wife Becky Lynch. As it is, this is Gunther's second reign as the World Heavyweight Champion and he doesn't have much else to prove at this point. I wouldn't be surprised to see him turn face at some point over the next Women's Championship Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill I'm picking Cargill to go over and win her first world title. I also expect Bianca Belair to return to action either on SmackDown or at SummerSlam. No matter when she returns, the potential Bianca-Jade feud is likely coming late in 2025 or early in 2026. Stratton's title reign has been mid and it's time to spice up the scene around the Orton & Jelly Roll vs. Drew McIntyre & Logan Paul I almost always hate the celebrity match, but there have been a few exceptions. Just about every match Logan Paul has been in has been strong, but we're doubling up here by adding Jelly Roll. I have all the respect in the world for the work it appears Jelly is putting in, and I acknowledge how good his mic work has been during the build. That said, there's a lot of work to be done if anyone is going to make him look good in the ring. Perhaps there will be a massive storyline shift, like an Orton heel turn that adds to the show. That might be quite the Women's Tag Team Championships The Judgment Day (Raquel Rodriguez & Roxanne Perez) (c) vs. Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair I fully expect to see Bliss and Flair win. Teaming with Bliss has put Flair over with the fans again, and she deserves it after a long rehab for her injured knee. For my money, she's still the greatest women's wrestler of all time, but Becky Lynch has dramatically closed that Reigns & Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker & Bronson Reed Some are predicting a Jey Uso heel turn here. Perhaps, but there won't be two huge heel turns on the same day at SummerSlam. And I'd prefer to see Orton flip at this point. As it is, I'm excited to see what kind of show these four men put on, as it is my favorite for match of the night on the first day of Zayn vs. Karrion Kross This could be a huge match for both men. Kross needs something big and memorable in this spot. WWE has placed him in another PLE and he needs an in-ring moment that will make re-signing him a SummerSlam 2025 – Night 2 - August 3 at 7pm ET on Peacock Undisputed WWE Championship – Street Fight John Cena (c) vs. Cody Rhodes There is no doubt in my mind this will be one of the more memorable matches from Cena's farewell tour. It seems like a match that Rhodes could win, but I almost think it would be better if Rhodes' next title run comes as a heel. In any case, this one is going to be special. Cena's character is beginning to soften and it's been a pleasure to watch the World Championship – Triple Threat Naomi (c) vs. Iyo Sky vs. Rhea Ripley The pressure is on Naomi in this one. It's not about defending the title. The pressure comes from the resurgent veteran being faced with the task of helping Iyo and Rhea deliver a match as good or better than the one the latter two had with Bianca Belair at WrestleMania. If they bring it similarly, we could be looking at another Intercontinental Championship Becky Lynch (c) vs. Lyra Valkyria Becky has pulled more out of Lyra than I thought she was ready to deliver at this stage of her career. However, I don't know if it is time for Lyra to regain her title. The women's IC belt still needs to be put over a bit more, and Becky is the best person for that task. I'm hoping they have an excellent match that Becky still States Championship – Steel Cage Match Solo Sikoa (c) vs. Jacob Fatu I expect this match to be physical but slow-paced. The interference is going to come in some way, but it'll be interesting to see if anyone besides Jimmy comes to Jacob's aid when the numbers game swings in Solo's Championship Dominik Mysterio (c) vs. AJ Styles If Dom is going to spend more time with AAA, it would make sense for him to drop the title. That said, Styles doesn't need it. He's already been the IC Champion in his career. As his career winds down, the only thing that really makes sense is a World Heavyweight Championship run. That's not what this is, so I'm a little stumped when it comes to predicting the end of this Tag Team Championship – TLC Match Wyatt Sicks (c) vs. #DIY vs. Street Profits vs. Fraxiom vs. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Andrade & Rey Fenix It's a tag team match and those haven't seen a bunch of love of late in WWE. However, the amount of athleticism and absolute chaos that is possible in this match makes it one of the ones I'm most looking forward to this weekend. Andrade and Rey Fenix or Fraxiom would make great champions. Everyone else in the match has already had their time as champions.
