Ukraine, Egypt agree steps to boost grain and sunflower oil trade

CAIRO: Egypt and Ukraine have agreed to take specific steps to boost trade in key farm commodities including grain and sunflower oil as Kyiv seeks to deepen ties with its largest trading partner in the Middle East and North Africa, the Ukrainian embassy said. An embassy statement on Wednesday did not elaborate on the steps or provide a timeline. The announcement came shortly after a meeting in Cairo between Ukrainian Ambassador Mykola Nahornyi and senior officials from the state grain buyer, the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development. Talks focused on strengthening food supply chains and expanding Ukraine's agricultural footprint in the Egyptian market, the embassy statement said. Ukraine exported $776.5 million worth of goods to Egypt in the first half of 2025, primarily wheat, whose exports to Egypt reached 1.31 million metric tons. Corn exports to Egypt were at 1.06 million tons and soybeans were 360,000 tons, according to the embassy. Total bilateral trade during the period reached $947.9 million, it added. Egypt is often the world's largest wheat importer, relying on foreign supplies for both its subsidised bread programme and private milling. Ukraine and Russia have both traditionally been the main source for Egypt's grain imports. But in the first half of this year, Egypt's wheat imports fell by more than 27% year-on-year to around 5.2 million metric tons, with the government's share of those imports plunging more than 57% to 1.5 million tons. Ukraine's embassy said the new measures aim to improve logistics and ensure more efficient, timely and transparent deliveries to Egypt.

Tata Motors to buy Italy's Iveco for $4.4bn

ROME (AFP) Tata Motors of India will buy Italy's Iveco Group for 3.8 billion euros ($4.4 billion) in a bid to create a "global champion" in the commercial vehicles sector, the two companies said Wednesday. The deal excludes Iveco's defence division for armoured vehicles, which is to be sold to Italian defence and aerospace group Leonardo, in a 1.7-billion-euro deal announced earlier Wednesday. The combined company after Tata's takeover aims to sell around 540,000 vehicles a year for total annual revenues of 22 billion euros, of which half would come from Europe, 35 percent from India and 15 percent from the Americas. Tata and Iveco -- which also makes engines and buses -- said in a joint statement there was "no overlap in their industrial and geographic footprints, creating a stronger, more diversified entity" which would use a shared strategic vision to drive long-term growth. The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026, underscoring the status of Tata in Europe, with Jaguar Land Rover notably a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors. "The reinforced prospects of the new combination are strongly positive in terms of the security of employment and industrial footprint of Iveco Group as a whole," Iveco's chairwoman Suzanne Heywood said in the statement. For Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Motors, "this is a logical next step following the demerger of the Tata Motors Commercial Vehicle business, and will allow the combined group to compete on a truly global basis with two strategic home markets in India and Europe. "The combined group's complementary businesses and greater reach will enhance our ability to invest boldly. I look forward to securing the necessary approvals and concluding the transaction in the coming months," he added in the statement. Iveco Group's CEO Olof Persson said the merger was "unlocking new potential to further enhance our industrial capabilities, accelerate innovation in zero-emission transport, and expand our reach in key global markets." He added: "This combination will allow us to better serve our customers with a broader, more advanced product portfolio and deliver long-term value to all stakeholders." Separately, Iveco's armoured vehicles unit will be sold to Leonardo, whose chief Roberto Cingolani said the move would make it a "reference player in the European land defence market". Leonardo has announced it plans to integrate its electronic systems, including new-generation combat sensors, into Iveco Defence vehicles to "guarantee optimal effectiveness of operational solutions offered".

Ghitha Holding revenue increases 6.7% to Dh2.61 billion in H1 2025

Ghitha Holding, an Abu Dhabi-based diversified conglomerate spanning agriculture, food production, and distribution, and a subsidiary of IHC, on Wednesday announced that its first half group revenue rose to Dh2.61 billion, up 6.7 per cent compared to H1 last year, largely driven by inorganic growth following recent acquisitions, which expanded scale and reach. Gross profit reached Dh599.4 million, an increase of 23 per cent YoY, reflecting the effectiveness of Ghitha's strategic pivot toward margin-led growth. Falal Ameen, Ghitha Holding's CEO, said: 'Our first-half results demonstrate the strength of our strategy, with a clear focus on profitable growth, disciplined portfolio integration, and value-driven execution. Growth was driven by a combination of strategic acquisitions and internal margin expansion. We continue to reshape our customer and channel mix, placing greater emphasis on profitable verticals, pricing discipline, and high-performing segments, a model that has consistently proven to strengthen our profitability and long-term sustainability. We also launched the SAP S/4HANA programme during the period, an important step in modernising our digital backbone to support future scalability and national food security goals.'' As part of its broader strategy to expand across various food segments, Ghitha continued to strengthen key verticals through M&A. In H1 2025, its subsidiary Al Ain Farms acquired Al Jazira Poultry Farm, a leading UAE-based poultry producer. The transaction, along with the successful acquisition of Arabian Farms last year, has further strengthened Ghitha's position in the protein vertical and reflects its long-term commitment to scaling high-demand categories within the national food value chain. Ghitha will build on this momentum by accelerating its operational transformation and advancing integration across its value chain. With the digitalisation program underway and a robust M&A pipeline, the Group is well-positioned to drive scalable growth while reinforcing food system resilience in alignment with national priorities. In July 2025 (Q3), Ghitha Agriculture Holding LLC, a subsidiary of Ghitha Holding PJSC, signed a sale and purchase agreementto sell 100 per cent of its shareholding in 'AGRINV SPV RSC LTD' to NRTC Food Holding LLC, for a consideration of $47 million. This transaction forms part of Ghitha's ongoing strategy to optimize its portfolio structure by consolidating businesses under focused, high-performing platforms. Following completion, Ghitha will continue to consolidate AGRINV SPV RSC LTD through NRTC. The completion of the transaction is subject to the satisfaction of customary conditions under the SPA and receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals.
