Israel Strike on a Home in Gaza Kills 22 as it Orders Hospital Evacuation
An Israeli strike on a house in central Gaza on Thursday killed 22 people, including nine women and children.
The airstrike hit a family home in Bureij, an urban refugee camp in central Gaza, according to the officials at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the nearby town of Deir al-Balah.
An Associated Press journalist viewed the hospital records of the dead from the strike.
Strikes in northern Gaza late Wednesday and early Thursday hit a house, killing eight people, including two women and three children, and a car in Gaza City, killing four, local hospitals said.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military, which says it only targets fighters and blames civilian deaths on Hamas because the gunmen operate in populated areas.
Meanwhile the Israeli military ordered the evacuation of a hospital in northern Gaza, staff said.
Dr. Rami al-Ashrafi said the army wants to evacuate everyone in Al-Awda Hospital in the heavily devastated Jabaliya area.
One of the last functioning medical centers in northern Gaza, the hospital has been encircled by Israeli troops and has come under fire in recent days.
Speaking by phone to the AP, al-Ashrafi said there are 82 staffers, including doctors, and seven patients left at the hospital. A total of 30 patients and 57 staff were already evacuated Tuesday, he said
Israeli authorities issued evacuation orders last week for large parts of northern Gaza ahead of offensives against Hamas, although the army did not order the hospital itself to evacuate.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of the World Health Organization, said last week that Israeli military operations and evacuation orders in Gaza 'are stretching the health system beyond the breaking point.'

After claiming victory in a 12-day war against Iran that ended with a ceasefire on June 24, the Israeli military said it would refocus on its offensive in Gaza, where Palestinian militants still hold Israeli hostages. Hamas's 2023 attack resulted in the deaths of 1,219 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures. Israel's retaliatory military campaign has killed at least 56,412 people, also mostly civilians, according to Gaza's health ministry. The United Nations considers these figures to be reliable.

Gaza's Government Media Office on Friday accused Israeli- and US-backed aid distribution centers in Gaza of deliberately mixing narcotic pills in flour bags being distributed to the population severely affected by war and at risk of famine. Lacing the flour with highly addictive substances marks a horrific new crime targeting civilians' health and societal fabric in Gaza, the statement said. 'We hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for this crime, which aims to spread addiction and destroy Palestinian society from within,' it added. Omar Hamad, a pharmacist and writer from the besieged enclave, said that Israel has reportedly been smuggling Oxycodone into Gaza through flour bags provided as aid. 'It has also been revealed that the drug is not only hidden inside flour bags, but the flour itself appears to be mixed with it,' he said Thursday in a post on X. Six Israelis detained for attacking soldiers in West Bank: Military
Six Israelis were detained for assaulting soldiers near a town in the occupied West Bank where clashes with Palestinians erupted earlier this week, the military said on Saturday. Soldiers went to disperse a gathering of Israelis near the central West Bank town of Kafr Malik overnight Friday to Saturday, the military said in a statement. 'Upon the arrival of the security forces, dozens of Israeli civilians hurled stones toward them and physically and verbally assaulted the soldiers, including the Battalion Commander,' it said. In addition, the civilians vandalized and damaged security forces' vehicles, and attempted to ram the security forces,' it added. 'The security forces dispersed the gathering, and six Israeli civilians were apprehended and transferred to the Israel Police for further processing.' Contacted by AFP, the Israeli military declined to say whether those arrested were residents of Israeli settlements in the territory, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967. The military referred the query to the Israeli police, which was not available to comment. In a separate incident on Wednesday, the Palestinian health ministry said three men died in Kafr Malik in an attack by settlers. AFP journalists saw several hundred people gather for the three men's funerals on Thursday. The Palestinian foreign ministry alleged 'official complicity' by Israel in Wednesday's attack, in a message on X.
