For an EV that wasn't getting much love, the revised bZ4X (renamed bZ for 2026) is the center of the brand's attention right now. For the 2026 model year, Toyota is adding a more rugged variant known as the bZ Woodland. No, the Woodland moniker isn't a trim level the way it is on the RAV4 and the Sienna. This time around, the bZ Woodland is its own model, and there's more to it than just a name. If it looks familiar, that's because the recently announced 2026 Subaru Trailseeker is its twin and will sell alongside the smaller Solterra. Here's what we know about the new bZ Woodland for 2026.
The 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland might look very similar to its shorter sibling, but it trades the standard bZ's new and more refined body-colored wheel arches for black cladding and mounts them over fresh 18-inch wheels with removable covers. Buyers can also choose all-terrain tires, while a smidge of a suspension lift adds 0.1 inch of ground clearance, for a total of 8.3 inches, matching the Trailseeker. Rugged black roof rails and flatter, reshaped taillights mimic those found on the Prius, Camry Hybrid, and the new electric CH-R. A larger quarter window hints at the model's increased overall length, up nearly six inches from the bZ's 184.6 inches to 190.2.
Unlike the standard bZ, which offers both front- and all-wheel drive along with two battery choices, the Woodland provides a standard dual-motor AWD setup. It would be tough to back up the Woodland name with two-wheel drive. There will also be what's known as the X-MODE system, a function that allows the driver to flip a switch and select a mode according to the road conditions, which will automatically change to optimize brake control and power delivery at the wheels for improved control and traction. While you won't go bouldering in the Woodland, it can take more than just gravel trails.
Whereas the standard bZ gets a 57.7-kWh battery pack, the Woodland boasts the same optional 74.7-kWh battery pack as the bZ with an estimated 260 miles of range. Like other models in the bZ family, the Woodland includes an NACS charging port, providing charging convenience at Tesla's robust Supercharger network. DC fast-charging from 10 to 80 percent takes about 30 minutes.
In terms of performance, the Woodland is no slouch. It delivers 375 horsepower, 37 more than the standard AWD bZ. It should prove to be about as quick as the Subaru Trailseeker, which clocks in at 4.4 seconds from 0 to 60. Towing capacity is rated at 3,500 pounds, though range will drop significantly when hauling heavy loads, not atypical of most EVs. Cargo space is "over 30 cubic feet", according to Toyota, which is a little more than the bZ's 27.7 cubic feet.
The 2026 Toyota bZ Woodland comes with a Panoramic View Monitor with Multi-Terrain Monitor, SofTex-trimmed seating, a 14-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen, dual wireless Qi charging, and ambient lighting. There's a single upgrade Premium Package that comes with a JBL Premium audio system, a large fixed glass panoramic roof, a digital rearview mirror that provides an unobstructed image of what's behind, ventilated front seats, a memory driver seat, and memory side view mirrors.
Pricing for the bZ Woodland hasn't been announced, but it's expected to exceed the 2025 bZ4X XLE AWD's starting price of $40,545 (including $1,395 destination charge). Full specifications and pricing will be revealed closer to its launch in early 2026.
It's great to see Toyota finally infusing life into its bZ line, and it couldn't come at a better time to boost the model's sales. Adding a larger, more rugged version to the lineup is a smart move, and simplifying the name can't hurt matters, either. The bZ Woodland has enough range to be compelling, and the additional power puts it up there with some of the quicker electric crossovers. While it won't satisfy real off-roaders, it's a compelling choice for eco-conscious families who want to do more than just cruise the boulevard and run weekend errands.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk was clearly delighted by the achievement, posting on X that the autonomous delivery had been completed a day ahead of schedule. Musk added: 'There were no people in the car at all and no remote operators in control at any point. FULLY autonomous! To the best of our knowledge, this is the first fully autonomous drive with no people in the car or remotely operating the car on a public highway.' However, as noted by some of those responding to his post, Alphabet-owned Waymo has been operating fully driverless vehicles on public highways for more than a year, so Musk is wrong on this point. Autonomous self-delivery like this has the potential to streamline the car delivery process, reduce costs, and eliminate trips, whether it's the customer heading to the dealership to pick up their new car, or staff heading back to base after dropping it off. It's a given that Tesla would like to deliver more of its new cars in this way, but it's not clear what its immediate plans are for such a system. The first-ever autonomous vehicle delivery can be marked down as a win for Tesla, and offers it some positive coverage in the wake of some less than celebratory headlines regarding its recently launched robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, a week ago. Shortly after its 10 Model Y robotaxis hit the road, reports emerged of some of the vehicles appearing to violate road rules as they carried passengers from A to B. The cars are being monitored remotely by Tesla staff and also have a human safety monitor in the front passenger seat who can intervene at any time.

Regular Jalopnik readers may remember the impossibly clean 500,000-mile Toyota Prius or the million-mile Honda Accord, but if you're looking to avoid the long-distance runaround and find a long-lasting ride, you should take into account more than just anecdotal evidence. That's when it's nice to know the team at Consumer Reports, who recently released its list of "Long-Lasting Cars Proven to Get to 200,000 Miles and Beyond." Its proprietary formula for ranking vehicle durability is a great place to start. But let's also take the next step to narrow things down a bit — although the choice of different brands is already fairly slim. This year's crop of top 12 vehicles includes eight Toyotas, two Hondas, and three of the domestic full-size pickups. Yes, that adds up to 13, but CR, like many people, consider the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, both of which made the list, as a single truck. And interestingly enough, those stories about the Prius and Accord may have something to them. They're among the cars most likely to reach 200,000 miles as well. Since it's the only one with non-Toyota, non-Honda choices, we'll give it to one of those other guys, and not to the midsize Toyota Tacoma that also joined the CR club. The Ford F-150 was another truck that made the cut, but lest we forget, the Blue Oval leads the industry in 2025 recalls — and it's facing yet another massive safety probe. That leaves us with the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, which, to be sure, are hardly disappointing alternatives. The two trucks make a powerful pair that go beyond longevity to offer features ranging from GM's handy Super Cruise hands-free driving system to a multifunction tailgate that can include built-in speakers. FWIW, the Silverado and Sierra also finished 1-2 in the most recent J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study, with the fewest consumer-reported problems in their class after three years' of ownership. Picking between the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord is like flipping a coin: Heads you get a stylish Toyota that offers a higher-efficiency hybrid, and tails you get a sleek Honda machine with a noticeably more dynamic driving experience. True, you can get a sporty Camry, complete with TRD upgrades, and the Accord can supply hybrid models of its own, yet this being Jalopnik, we'll point to the Honda's fun quotient as a deciding factor. That plus the fact that the Honda Accord has the most American-made-ness compared to the Camry (based on criteria such as where the Accord is assembled and where its parts come from). Unsurprisingly, benefits like those, along with Honda's Sensing safety technology, have made the Accord plenty popular with a lot of people. It probably doesn't hurt that the Accord has a slightly lower cost of entry, too. The result is that the Accord is a top choice for Millennials and Generation Z as well as for both first-time and multicultural buyers. Despite a few aesthetic drawbacks in models like the Toyota Sienna Magnolia Edition, the Sienna itself stands out for an ability to blend its thirst for the road with an appetite for family-friendly adventures — and satisfying goodies to help make sure all aboard can enjoy all those miles. We're talking about a built-in coolbox for snacks and refreshments, a built-in vacuum system for quick clean-ups, and a rear-seat entertainment system for calming the kids. The 2025 Sienna also introduced a comprehensive new rear-seat reminder system for the little ones, relying on a radar system to scan the rear seats to help detect their presence and a variety of warnings and alarms to alert caregivers. The setup can even help make contact with Toyota Safety in some situations. Meanwhile, the Sienna driver can relax in heated/ventilated leather seating and, in the XSE grade, take advantage of a sport-tuned suspension to help leave more boring minivans behind. It doesn't make sense to mess with success, and the Toyota Prius is hybrid perfection, right down to its affordable MSRP of $28,350. For comparison, the industry's current average transaction price was nearly $49,000 in May 2025. You can then save even more since the Prius can put up an efficiency line of 57 mpg city/56 mpg highway/57 mpg combined. According to the EPA, that would save you $4,250 in gas bills in five-year fuel costs compared to the typical U.S. vehicle. The Prius is no longer some kind of oddball driving appliance, either. Not only does the current generation sport a compelling and curvaceous exterior design, it's also the most powerful Prius yet. The 2025 version can serve up 196 net horsepower, representing an increase of more than 60% over the previous-gen Prius. Today's version can further be configured with all-wheel drive for a boost to all-weather performance and a plug-in system that adds an EV range of up to 45 miles. The Honda CR-V Hybrid is the obvious choice, and don't worry, there's a non-hybrid version available if that's more your thing. Together, the two versions represent the best-selling Honda nameplate in the current lineup and — per Honda — the best-selling SUV in America for the past 25 years. Credit for that goes in part to a spirit of continuous improvement. For the 2026 model year, for instance, the CR-V welcomes wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and wireless device charging as part of its standard content. In addition, a new TrailSport Hybrid edition is hitting dealerships to help Honda tap into the growing demand for a more rugged approach to mall crawling — or light off-road duty. It will come with the typical trail-focused styling, standard AWD, and standard all-terrain tires, with those details matched by comfort cues such as standard heated front seats, a sunroof, and a heated steering wheel. Toyota has long been claiming that there is no single path to carbon neutrality, arguing that cleaner combustion engines and hybrids need to bridge the gap to electric cars powered by renewable energy. With a back catalog of brilliant engines like the overengineered 2JZ, which is still revered 35 years after its 1JZ foundation was built, Toyota knows what it takes to beat the world's best, and its upcoming 1.5- (black top) and 2.0-liter (red top) four-cylinder engines appear poised to handle the weight of expectation with ease. According to Toyota engineers who spoke with German publication Auto Motor und Sport, the G20E (that's the 2.0-liter) is easily capable of exceeding the 400-450-horsepower figure of the mid-engine GR Yaris M concept: "With a larger turbocharger, more than 600 hp is easily possible." What really piques our interest, however, is a comment made by one of the engineers to the German publication: "We left enough space between the cylinders so that the engine can be bored out considerably." That's more good news for all the aftermarket tuners who will doubtless begin seeking to extract more power from the G20E the moment they get their grubby paws on it, but it also means that Toyota itself may well enlarge this four-cylinder to provide a smoother experience in cars that may otherwise have been powered by six-cylinder engines. Not that there's any reason to worry in that regard - reports out of Japan claim that, if BMW's B58 is dropped, Mazda will provide the straight-six for the next Supra. Although unconfirmed, this news seems credible since the G20E and its 1.5-liter sibling were not announced in isolation; Mazda and Subaru also presented rotary and boxer prototype powertrains when the G20E was revealed as part of the triarchy's "Multipathway Approach," announced almost exactly one year ago. The rush to create evermore efficient combustion engines may well be less frenetic with a collaborative approach to innovation.
