Yahoo3 days ago
Aneurin Donald equalled the Twenty20 record for the fastest half-century as he fired Derbyshire to victory over Yorkshire.
Donald reached 50 off just 13 balls as he equalled Marcus Trescothick's feat, finishing with 85 as his side clinched a seven-wicket run.

Yorkshire had posted a competitive-looking target of 200 but Donald had different ideas.
He teed off and brought up his 50 in the fourth over. He went on to make 85 off 30 balls, hitting seven sixes and eight fours.
Nottinghamshire secured a nervy one-wicket win off the penultimate ball against Leicestershire.
Rishi Patel (51) and Sol Budinger (56) helped the Foxes to 188 for two in their 20 overs.
Nottinghamshire were steady in their reply with Joe Clarke hitting 50 before a flurry of wickets put them in danger until number 10 Dillon Pennington and number 11 Farham Ahmed saw them over the line with the 119th delivery.
Ned Leonard and Andy Gorvin did the damage for Glamorgan as they beat Kent by six wickets.

Leonard took four for 26 and Gorvin four for 17 as Kent were restricted to 118 for nine from their 20 overs.
The Welsh county made light work of their chase, knocking it off in the 12th over, with Kiran Carlson top-scoring on 34.

Hugh Grant looks to be one tired tennis fan at Wimbledon

An exciting tennis game was no match for how sleepy Hugh Grant appeared to be Wednesday at Wimbledon. The 'Heretic' actor was caught on camera seemingly dozing while sitting in the Royal Box at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in England during the quarterfinal match between Novak Djokovic and Flavio Cobolli. In the clip, Grant is seen sitting next to his wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein wearing a pair of sunglasses when his head appears to slump over to his right side, his hands clasped together in his lap. The clip has gone viral on social media, with many users noticing that Grant appeared to be asleep during the game. Another image captured and reposted to X shows Grant leaning over to his right side in his seat, which was located in the row behind Queen Camilla and her sister Annabel Elliot. Grant was, however, seen in another clip very much awake, having a lively conversation with the royal sisters at one point during the match. While Grant may be the only person at Wimbledon caught possibly taking a quick nap, there were plenty of other famous faces who've attended the esteemed Tennis competition since it started last month, including Joe Alwyn, Hannah Waddingham, Glen Powell and Cate Blanchett. Andrew Garfield and 'A Complete Unknown' actress Monica Barbaro also went public with their romance when they attended Day 7 of Wimbledon together last week, walking in holding hands and wearing matching all-white outfits. As for the match that Grant attended Wednesday, Tennis champion Djokovic beat Cobolli in four sets. Djokovic will face men's world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the semifinal Friday.

Wimbledon fines players for swearing, abusing rackets and unsportsmanlike conduct

LONDON (AP) — Tennis players at Wimbledon have been racking up fines for swearing too loudly, unsportsmanlike conduct and 'abuse of rackets or equipment.' An updated list of fines released Wednesday by the All England Club showed that 2024 men's doubles champion Henry Patten received the biggest fine — $12,500 — in the category of verbal abuse. The British player and doubles partner Harri Heliovaara won their their first Grand Slam title a year ago at Wimbledon. Patten was fined on June 29 for what multiple British media outlets described as alleged verbal abuse of a staff member at an off-site practice ground. Patten told local media that he has filed an appeal that will be handled after the tournament. Patten and Heliovaara were eliminated in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. Amanda Anisimova, who plays top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals on Thursday, picked up a $4,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct during her fourth-round victory over Linda Noskova. French doubles player Theo Arribage was fined $7,500 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct during his second-round loss on Saturday, and next highest was compatriot Adrian Mannarino's $6,000 fine, also for unsportsmanlike conduct during his second-round win last week. Is all, seven men have been fined so far. Their total is $36,000. The total for the eight women who have been fined so far is $29,500. The highest single fine on the women's side is $5,000 — imposed on Elena Pridankina for unsportsmanlike conduct during the singles qualifying tournament in late June. Chloe Paquet, Hailey Baptiste and men's players Alex Bolt and Zizou Bergs were all handed fines for 'audible obscenity.' Colton Smith of the United States was fined $2,000 for abuse of rackets or equipment. ___ AP tennis:

France closes in on Euro 2025 quarterfinals with a 4-1 win over Wales

ST. GALLEN, Switzerland (AP) — Clara Mateo was involved in three goals as France closed in on the Women's European Championship quarterfinal places with a 4-1 win over Wales on Wednesday. The Paris FC forward opened the scoring, was fouled for the penalty that Kadidiatou Diani converted, and then set up Amel Majri for the third goal. France captain Grace Geyoro sealed the result in the 63rd. Advertisement It was France's 10th consecutive win this year. France tops Group D with six points, three more than England and the Netherlands, while Wales remained bottom with zero points after two games on its tournament debut. England revived its title defense following its opening loss to France by beating the Netherlands 4-0 earlier Wednesday. France will win the group if it avoids defeat against the Dutch on Sunday, when England plays Wales in their final group match. French rotations France coach Laurent Bonadei made a host of changes to his lineup with only four players including the goalkeeper starting again from the 2-1 win over England. Advertisement Alice Sombath and newcomer Thiniba Samoura, both 21, formed France women's youngest ever central-defensive partnership at a major tournament. Mateo, another change, fired the favorites into an early lead with a fine finish after a corner, but Jess Fishlock equalized in the 14th when she prodded the ball inside the right post. It was Wales' first goal at a European Championship – scored by the team's oldest player. Welsh celebrations UEFA said Fishlock, 38 years and 176 days old, became the oldest player ever to score at the tournament, beating the record previously held by Northern Ireland's Julie Nelson, who was 37 years and 33 days old when she scored at the last edition. Advertisement Welsh celebrations were unbridled and the goal seemed to knock the French players off their stride. It took some time before they recovered. Then Ceri Holland conceded a penalty for a foul on Mateo in the 44th, and Diani scored with a weakly taken spot kick that went in off Wales goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel's legs before the break. A mistake from Middleton-Patel after the interval led to the third goal with Mateo winning the ball off the goalkeeper and laying it back for Majri to score in the 53rd. Lyon great Majri was making her first European Championship appearance. She missed Euro 2017 through injury and the last edition in 2022 after the birth of her daughter. Middleton-Patel should have stopped Diani's cross but it fell for Geyoro to complete the scoring. ___ AP soccer: The Associated Press
