'I believe I was the first film actor to enter the war and probably the last one to come back,' Fairbanks said. 'It was six years of very fulfilling active duty. When it was over, I was told that the public had forgotten me and that it would be very hard to get back into films. But luck brought me 'Sinbad the Sailor,' and it hit the jackpot.'
