She said the encouraging response, 112 per cent over the set target, indicates that school communities are keen to have more of such awareness programmes.
'Therefore, this year, JKM has decided to expand the programme to 300 schools nationwide, with 25 schools in Sabah,' she told Bernama at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Selamat here today.
Rosmahwati attended the Kasih Kanak-Kanak Child Protection Advocacy Programme, officiated by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) deputy-secretary general (Operations) Farah Adura Hamidi, in conjunction with the Kembara Kasih KPWKM 2025 initiative.
Rosmahwati, who spoke on behalf of the Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, emphasised that collaboration between residents and the school community, including teachers, students, parents, and the Parent-Teacher Association, is crucial because ensuring children's safety is a shared responsibility.
'We are aware that child protection cases have been rising year after year, which is why this collaborative movement must continue to ensure that awareness of child protection remains at the highest level,' she said.
Meanwhile, Rosmahwati said this year's advocacy programme features greater variety, including promoting elements of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).
She also noted that incidents of child abuse and neglect are of deep concern in Malaysia, with Sabah alone recording 1,575 cases in 2024.
'This figure is more just a statistic as it represents 1,575 tales of pain, trauma, and injustice experienced by children who deserve to be protected and loved,' she said.
She urged the public to utilise the Talian Kasih 15999 hotline and the Whatsapp number at 019-2615999 to get prompt assistance for cases of abuse and neglect involving children.
'We encourage more people to come forward and use this hotline to report any suspected cases, especially those involving child safety and protection, including physical, emotional, and sexual abuse,' she said, adding that the public can channel information and tackle the surge in child abuse and neglect incidents.

BATU KAWAN: The atmosphere at the Batu Kawan Stadium compound remained lively today as crowds continued to gather ahead of the closing ceremony of National Unity Week (SMP) 2025, with thousands taking the opportunity to settle their traffic summonses at a discount of up to 50 per cent, offered by the police. A Bernama survey found that the special counter for paying fines, which was opened last Thursday, received visitors not only from Penang, but also from neighbouring states such as Kedah and Perak. An employee of a private transport company in Seberang Jaya, Teh Wong Wei, 34, said his company took the chance to settle outstanding summonses due to the attractive discounts available for various traffic offences. "Most of the offences involved speeding in several states along the North-South Expressway (Plus), with total fines amounting to nearly RM5,000. "After learning about the 50 per cent discount, my employer instructed me to make the payments yesterday. "However, I couldn't make it in time, so I came it seems many others had the same idea," he said. For Natasha Amira Nazri, 32, the 50 per cent summons discount is a people-friendly initiative that provides real relief in settling outstanding summonses at a lower cost, viewing it as a valuable opportunity for all road users. "My husband and I have more than three summonses for various traffic offences, and when there is an opportunity for a discount offer like this to pay at a discount, we take it. "It helps us save money," said the mother of two, who resides in George Town, near here. Meanwhile, a police spokesman said the discount initiative is part of an effort to bring the police closer to the community, while offering the public a convenient way to resolve unpaid summonses. "Many took advantage of this opportunity. Not only does it help ease their financial burden, but it also reflects their commitment to abiding by the law," he said. He said that as of 5pm yesterday, police had collected RM675,000 in summons payments since opening 10 counters last Thursday. A total of 45 police personnel, including staff from the Penang police contingent, were deployed for the four-day operation of the physical payment counters, which ran from 9am to 5pm daily. In addition to in-person services, payments could also be made online via the MyBayar PDRM portal in conjunction with National Unity Week (SMP) 2025. The 50 per cent discount is given to all types of traffic offences, except accident-related summonses, non-compoundable offences, Op Selamat cases, court proceedings, dangerous overtaking or 'queue-cutting' offences, misuse of emergency lanes, running red lights, illegal vehicle exhaust modifications, and overtaking on double lines. Apart from police summonses, the public also took the opportunity to settle summonses issued by the Road Transport Department (RTD) as well as discounted compounds offered by the Penang City Council (MBPP) and the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP). Over 40 major activities were held throughout SMP 2025, including 22 Rumah Kita ethnic house exhibitions, a Kadazan Dusun and Orang Asli Ethnic Village showcase, the Foodunites culinary fair, the Time Travel Exhibition, Malaysia Tanah Airku Exhibition, traditional sports, Unity Entrepreneur Sale, Boria Competition, ethnic costume and dance contests, a book festival, and various cultural performances. Police trace owner of car driven by 11-year-old in Klang
SHAH ALAM: Police have identified the owner of a Proton Saga involved in a viral incident where an 11-year-old child was believed to be driving. The car skidded at Jalan Telok Gong, Klang, yesterday morning. South Klang police chief ACP Ramli Kasa confirmed that the young driver and two other children, aged seven and a Malaysian cousin, were traced. The 11-year-old and the seven-year-old are siblings and UNHCR cardholders. Initial investigations revealed that the mother had driven the car from Bandar Sultan Suleiman to her sister's house in Telok Gong. She briefly left the children unattended to use the toilet. 'The 11-year-old took the car keys and drove with the younger sibling and cousin to a nearby shop,' Ramli said. The child drove two kilometres before losing control, causing the car to skid into a roadside drain. No injuries were reported, and only minor damage occurred to the vehicle. Police are investigating under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving, Section 39(1) for driving without a licence (underage), and the Child Act 2001 for potential neglect. - Bernama

Kelantan cites faith, community in curbing LGBT-linked activities
KOTA BHARU: Activities linked to the LGBT community in Kelantan remain under control due to strict enforcement, strong religious values, and active community involvement. State Local Government, Housing, Health, and Environment Committee chairman Hilmi Abdullah credited public vigilance for helping authorities monitor and address suspicious behaviour. 'In Kelantan, if something seems unusual, people report it quickly to the authorities,' he told Bernama. Areas previously known for immoral activities, such as Jalan Hamzah and Lorong Limau Manis, have seen revitalisation efforts, including a new shopping centre in Jalan Hamzah. Hilmi noted that the Kota Bharu Municipal Council – Islamic City (MPKB-BRI) conducts regular patrols, and no recent reports of immoral activities have been filed. However, he acknowledged that any remaining cases likely involve foreigners or non-locals. On July 17, Kelantan police raided a private LGBT-related gathering at a bungalow in Jalan Kemumin, following public complaints and intelligence gathered by a special task force. Over 20 men were involved in the incident.
