Streets quickly flooded with water throughout the city, causing chaos among motorists.
Within the space of just one hour between 7pm and 8pm, emergency services got more than 200 calls, local media has reported.
The scale of the flooding has seen the city placed under a state of emergency by Spanish authorities.
Cars were gridlocked as the rain came pouring down, cascading over the side of a bridge into a powerful looking waterfall.

They can be seen rolling up their sleeves and grabbing buckets to try and stem the flooding at their shops.
But other residents didn't let the poor weather stop them having a good time.
One clip shows two men sat on reclining chairs in the middle of the road, enjoying a bottle of beer and seemingly oblivious to the elements.
While no injuries have been reported as a result of the flooding, the freak weather has put emergency responders on high alert.
As much as 16 square litres of rain per square metre has battered the Spanish city, local media has reported.
It comes just weeks after another popular Spanish spot was pounded by the elements.
Towns across the Valencia region were hit by a ghastly storm last month that made some areas look almost arctic.
Footage shared across social media showed pounding hail and gushing rainwater surging through the region's towns.
White hailstones coated themselves along the streets, rendering several towns almost empty outdoors.
Cars left on the streets were covered in thick layers of hail.
Spain was also hit by a massive blackout that affected most of the country - as well as neighbouring Portugal - on April 28.
It saw airports and hospitals shut down and trains brought to a halt across the Iberian peninsula.
Officials blamed a "rare atmospheric phenomenon" for the incident.

But while opting for a bamboo fence can have loads of benefits, there are certain issues people often forget about. Thanks to how fast it grows, bamboo is a popular choice in replacements of fencing. But what started out as a quick alternative to a privacy fence can quickly get out of hand and crack paving stones, crush pipes and more. Different types of bamboo can have different types of stems and roots, which can all cause damage. READ MORE ON GARDENS PLAY BALL Can a neighbour keep my kid's football if it lands in their garden? In fact, it's not just your home bamboo can damage, during growing season it can block out light from other plants and even strangle them. That doesn't mean you need to steer clear of bamboo altogether though, according to Harry there a few easy ways to control it. He reccomended looking for a 'clumping' variety of bamboo, since they're stems wont cause issues to pavements and pipes. "They are a much safer option for home gardens than their running counterparts," he told But if you do opt for running bamboo, the pro suggesting installing root guards to keep everything in place. "You can purchase thick sheets made of strong plastic or metal, which should be buried around two to three feet deep into the ground. 6 Reasons Bamboo May Not Be Ideal for Your British Garden "If you make sure that the ends overlap well and are sealed tightly, these sheets should form an effective barrier to stop rhizomes from finding a way to spread further into your garden and the rest of your property," he explained. And if you already have bamboo in your garden that's getting out of control, there's no time to waste when it comes to controlling it. One simple way you can do this is by digging a trench around the area twice a year and then cut down rhizomes that cross it. You could also cut down new shoots as soon as the spring up in any undesired spots. But be warned, getting rid of bamboo altogether can be a challenge as it's more pervasive than even Japanese Knotweed.

At least 31 nursing home residents left to drown in horror China floods – as Xi's officials make chilling admission

Over 80,000 people have been told to evacuate their homes immediately as torrid storms swept across Beijing this week with the death toll now reaching 44. Yu Weiguo, ruling Communist Party boss in the worst-hit Miyun district, announced: "There were gaps in our preparatory plans. Our knowledge of extreme weather was lacking. "This tragic lesson has warned us that putting the people first, putting human life first, is more than a slogan." The floods tore through homes in the Miyun District with dozens of casualties coming from an elderly care home. Around 77 residents were inside the home when the floods hit. Many of them were immobile or severely disabled and were under constant supervision from carers. Over half were trapped in their rooms as water levels rose to almost 6ft, according to Chinese media. A devastated Chinese official explained at a press conference on Thursday that the care home was supposed to have been in a "safe zone". The central area of the town where the nursing home was located wasn't included in any evacuation scope meaning rescuers weren't able to help until it was too late. Officials had tried to battle through the surging waves but were unable to rescue more than seven of the residents. Horror vids show floods swamp China turning roads into rapids with at least 38 killed and 80k evacuated from Beijing In the nearby Hebei province, 16 people died as a result of extreme rainfall, officials said. In the city of Chengde, another eight were killed with 18 still missing. The storms have knocked out power in more than 130 villages in Beijing and destroyed communication lines making any rescue missions tricky. More than 30 sections of road have also been ripped up. Terrifying videos have emerged showing the roads being turned into rivers. Swaths of northern China were lashed by torrential downpours that sparked landslides and flooding, state media said on Tuesday. A heartbroken Pang, a 52-year-old resident of Taishitun, said the flood is the type of disaster "seen once in a hundred years". The government has allocated 350 million yuan ($49million) for disaster relief in nine regions hit by heavy rains. A separate 200 million yuan has been set aside for the capital, the broadcaster said. Natural disasters are common across China, particularly in the summer when some regions experience heavy rain while others bake in searing heat. In 2023, heavy rain killed more than 80 people across northern and northeastern China, including at least 29 people in Hebei where severe flooding destroyed homes and crops. Some reports at the time suggested the province shouldered the burden of a government decision to divert the deluge away from Beijing. 6 Soldiers have been trying to rescue trapped villagers since Tuesday Credit: AP 6 Village officials and volunteers clear fallen branches from a road in Zhongshan Village of Changxing County Credit: Alamy

British skincare brand sold in Boots launches 50% off sale as it prepares to close down this month SHUTTING SHOP The beloved British skincare brand is shutting down today, after 25 years in business, leaving fans devastated. The company is closing down after its parent company cited "internal factors and market challenges". The pioneering brand, which was ahead of the 'clean beauty' trend, was founded by Rob Calcraft and Anthony Buck in 2000. Biggest skincare trends for 2025 Face The Future's Head of Clinic, Kimberley Medd, shared the five skincare trends predicted to take off in 2025. 1. Exosomes Exosomes are the buzzword for 2025, taking advanced skin regeneration to new heights. These micro-messengers signal skin cells to repair damage, boost collagen, and accelerate recovery, and they're a gamechanger for targeting ageing. 2. Streamlined Skincare The age of 12-step routines is fading as consumers shift to more intentional, multi-functional products. Streamlining skincare not only saves time but also reduces the risk of overloading your skin. In 2025, we'll see a rise in hybrid products that combine active ingredients for simplified, effective results. 3. Vegan Collagen Plant-based collagen will dominate the skincare world this year, providing a sustainable, ethical alternative to traditional animal-derived collagen. Expect vegan collagen in everything from moisturisers to serums. 4. The Rise Of AI AI is revolutionising the beauty landscape, making it possible for consumers to get truly personalised skincare solutions. In 2025, we predict a dramatic shift towards AI-powered tools that help people understand their skin on a deeper level. 5. Hair Loss Solutions - Hair loss is an issue that affects more men than we often realise, and it's no longer just something we're talking about behind closed doors. This year, expect to see a continued rise in demand for treatments that not only tackle hair loss but also nurture overall scalp health. Some of its prestigious products, such as Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Toner (£30,) and the Evercalm range (£75), developed a cult following. Its innovative approach to skincare attracted the attention of Unilver's prestige Brand director, Vasiliki Petrou. Unilever bought the company for an undisclosed amount in 2015. Under Petrou's mentorship, the 2023 turnover ballooned to £1.2bn. However, last year she left the department, and almost immediately, profits started to dip. Announcing the closure via an Instagram post on June 23, REN Skincare, which launched in 2000, said: "We will soon be closing our doors.... "Born in London in 2000, we've been proud to put clean skincare on the agenda, creating positive change for out people and planet. "We thank you, our community for your support over the years. "You can still shop with us over at until 31st July 2025." Ahead of the closure, REN, which is stocked in Boots, launched a huge 50% off sale, and customers can still grab bargains until 23:59pm tonight. Among the deals on offer, customers can nab the Radiance Brightening Dark Circle Eye Cream for £24.50 down from £49 and the Evercalm Global Protection Cream for £42, down from £29.40.
