Haj committee inspects arrangements at RGIA
During the inspection, the Chairman personally examined various key facilities prepared for the comfort and convenience of the returning Hajis. These included the Wazu (ablution) area, Namaz (prayer) area, holding area, exit gates, Zam Zam water distribution counter, customs clearance point, and overall passenger flow arrangements.
The Chairman was accompanied by officials from the Telangana State Haj Committee, Airport Authority, Customs, CISF, and GMR officials, who briefed him about the steps being taken to ensure a smooth and respectful reception of the pilgrims.
He emphasized the need for seamless coordination between all concerned departments to provide dignified and hassle-free services to the pilgrims, many of whom are senior citizens.
It was informed during the inspection that the arrival of Haj pilgrims is scheduled to begin from June 13 and will continue up to July 9, in multiple batches.

As the countdown begins for the grand opening of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in September, the Maharashtra home department has approved a 285-strong immigration team to manage incoming and outgoing travellers. This move is one of the final steps in preparing the airport for operation. As per Hindustan Times, the team will include 20 inspectors, 55 sub-inspectors, 30 assistant sub-inspectors, 60 head constables, and 120 constables. The state will spend Rs 10.10 crore annually to support this team and other related infrastructure. How Will Security Be Handled? The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will take charge of airport safety. The Ministry of Home Affairs has already approved 2,000 CISF personnel for NMIA. They'll look after terminal security, passenger screening, and aviation operations. A senior officer at DIG (Deputy Inspector General) rank will lead the team. What's the Plan for Traffic? With NMIA expected to become a key travel hub for Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan and Panvel, a dedicated traffic division has also been proposed. This unit will have 250 traffic officials to control congestion and streamline vehicle movement around the airport. In its first month, NMIA will handle 30 flights daily. But that number will rise quickly. By year two, the airport aims to run 600 flights a day. To manage this, Terminal 1 of Mumbai's current airport (CSMIA) will be demolished, shifting many domestic flights to the new hub. What Makes NMIA Special? NMIA will boast four terminals, two runways, and a cargo terminal. Haj committee initiates shorter pilgrimage option for 2026
PTI photo / File MUMBAI: In a significant move, Haj Committee of India (HCOI) has, for the first time, introduced a shorter 20-day Haj package for pilgrims. This new option is part of the guidelines released for Haj 2026. A maximum of 10,000 pilgrims will be allotted slots for this condensed pilgrimage. The remaining pilgrims travelling through HCOI will follow traditional 40-45 day schedule. Should applications for short-duration Haj exceed the 10,000 limit, a lottery system will be used for selection. The deadline for submitting Haj 2026 application forms is July 31. India's total Haj quota stands at approximately 1,75,000 pilgrims, with 1,25,000 embarking through HCOI and the remaining 50,000 opting for private tour operators. Pilgrims will pay the same fare as those on the 40-45 day trip, as chartered planes and accommodation are booked in advance. The 'short duration Haj' will be available from seven points: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Cochin, and Ahmedabad.
