Letters sent to 13,000 potential victims in Long Island sleep center spy camera case
A court hearing was held Thursday in the case of Sanjai Syamaprasad. The 47-year-old was charged back in April after prosecutors say he secretly took videos of co-workers and patients, including young children, in bathrooms at the Northwell Sleep Disorders Center in Manhasset where he worked.
Now, an attorney representing people in three class action lawsuits says 13,000 letters have gone out to patients who may have been victimized.
"Anyone that was there between October of 2022 and April 2024 is a potential victim here," attorney Joel Rubenstein said. "Victims can send pictures of themselves to the DA's office."
Hidden camera recorded patients, co-workers in sleep center bathrooms, prosecutors say
Syamaprasad allegedly moved a spy camera that looked like a smoke detector around nine bathrooms at the center, placing the camera where it had views of showers and toilets.
According to prosecutors, hundreds of victims were recorded over a year and a half. The district attorney said they are reviewing thousands of images.
Prosecutors said in 2024, a co-worker caught Syamaprasad watching the videos at work. Northwell says it took immediate action to remove him and brought in law enforcement.
Syamaprasad has pleaded not guilty to charges including unlawful surveillance.
He is also under investigation for similar crimes at a Weill Cornell sleep center in Manhattan.

'Shameless': Trump's Big Golf Boast Backfires Amid Renewed Cheating Claims
The White House over the weekend bragged that President Donald Trump won yet another golf tournament just as a new video emerged that some say shows him cheating. 'Winning on and off the course,' the White House wrote on X, along with an image of a scorecard showing Trump shot a 69 ― 67 after adjusting for his handicap ― to win the men's senior championship at his Bedminster club. But the claim comes as Trump faces renewed accusations of cheating at the game, with many critics pointing to a video of him in Scotland last week in which the caddie casually dropped the ball for him. The day before Trump's latest tournament, sportswriter Rick Reilly ― who has golfed with Trump and authored an entire book detailing how he cheats at the game ― wondered aloud if the president would dare to declare himself the winner. 'Tomorrow is the Senior Champ at Bedminster,' he wrote on X. 'Are you shameless enough to pretend you won it? Even after the whole planet saw you cheat in Scotland? Is your ego that sick?' After Trump won, he wrote in a follow-up: 'Guess we got our answer. What a child.' After another new video surfaced showing a caddie dropping the ball for Trump ― this time in Bedminster, possibly from the day of the tournament ― Reilly added: Reilly has previously pointed out that Trump only wins on the courses he owns as more evidence he cheats. 'He's played in Pebble Beach, he's played in the Tahoe one, where there are rules and judges and cameras. And in those, he's never finished in the top half,' he said on MSNBC last year. Others who've played with the president have also accused him of cheating, including boxer Oscar De La Hoya, who once explained in detail some of Trump's tricks. Rock icon/golf enthusiast Alice Cooper didn't quite come out and call Trump a cheater. But he came close. 'The worst celebrity golf cheat? I wish I could tell you that,' he told Q magazine in 2012. 'It would be a shocker. I played golf with Donald Trump one time. That's all I'm going to say.' Given that history ― and the recent videos ― Trump's critics weren't about to grant him a gimme on his latest championship claim:

After another new video surfaced showing a caddie dropping the ball for Trump ― this time in Bedminster, possibly from the day of the tournament ― Reilly added: So you know, it's NEVER legal for your caddy to drop a ball. YOU can drop one, but never on a green. And since this was a full-score event, its not legal for Trump to drag the ball into the hole. No, no, never. Our president is a f*cking golf cheat. — Rick Reilly (@ReillyRick) August 3, 2025 Reilly has previously pointed out that Trump only wins on the courses he owns as more evidence he cheats. He just straight up lies about his golf score like a North Korean leader would. — A Fellow Chucker, Eh? (@RuFiOooooh) August 3, 2025

Ventura community mourns loss of cafe co-owner killed in Reno mass shooting
A Ventura County community is mourning the loss of a beloved 33-year-old man, co-owner of a popular restaurant, who was shot and killed outside a Reno, Nevada casino Monday in a mass shooting that left two others dead and three wounded. The violence unfolded outside the Grand Sierra Resort, one of Reno's most popular venues, at around 7:30 a.m. Authorities said the gunman walked up to the casino-hotel's valet parking area and pointed a handgun at a group of people. The firearm initially malfunctioned, but the shooter worked quickly to get it working, firing multiple rounds as he fled. While fleeing, the suspect shot an armed security guard, shot and killed a person driving their vehicle in the parking lot and also fired on a Reno police officer, striking the patrol vehicle before multiple officers returned fire and struck the man and took him into custody. The gunman, who has yet to be identified, was armed with multiple magazines, investigators said. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Andrew Canepa, co-owner of the Side Street Cafe in Newbury Park, was among the victims killed. The 33-year-old, who is the father of a 6-year-old boy, was remembered as a big reason the cafe is considered one of the most popular breakfast spots in the community. 'He would sit down with people at the booth, share with them and make them feel at home,' Canepa's friend Rick Bucaria told KTLA. 'Andrew was so warm and welcoming. He was always so happy.' Outside the family-owned cafe, which was closed for the first time in months, friends and employees grieved the loss of a man they described as a dedicated community member. 'It's because of the family tied to it, the love that comes from it,' Israel Rodriguez said. 'Andrew was a big part of that. He probably greeted and waited on almost everybody in this city.' After the 2018 mass shooting at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, Canepa helped organize a fundraiser. 'The community was ripped apart,' Rodriguez told KTLA. 'He was very active in helping victims. It's a sad, tragic turn of events that he's now a victim of that.' A GoFundMe has been organized to help support Canepa's son after the loss of his father.
