Trump's appearance in middle of Chelsea trophy celebration baffles Cole Palmer, fans; ‘Are you going to leave?'

President Donald Trump stole the limelight during the trophy celebration of English club Chelsea after the FIFA Club World Cup final, leaving soccer players and fans baffled. eece James #24 of Chelsea FC holds the FIFA Club World Cup trophy after their team's victory as U.S. President Donald Trump interacts with Robert Sanchez #1 of Chelsea FC following the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 Final match between Chelsea FC and Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium on July 13, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey./AFP (Photo by David Ramos / GETTY IMAGES NORTH AMERICA / Getty Images via AFP)(Getty Images via AFP)
As the London team defeated Paris Saint-Germain of France 3-0 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, Trump joined them on the pitch.
Trump presented the medals to the runners-up, the tournament trophy, and individual prizes to players along with FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Usually, the person who presents the trophy to winning captain walks away when the victor lifts the trophy.
However, Trump was met with jeers at the stadium as he joined Chelsea's players for their spotlight moment. Trump arrived there on the one-year anniversary of the assassination attempt on his life in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The displeasure of crowd was also recorded in social media videos.

Cole Palmer was surprised to see Trump on stand
Chelsea attacking midfielder Cole Palmer, who helped his team defeat favorites PSG with their first two goals, seemed perplexed.
'Wait, wait, what's he doing?' Palmer told Chelsea captain Reese James before the traditional celebration.
'Are you going to leave?' James inquired Trump before raising the golden-globed trophy.
As captain Reese James raised the trophy, several supporters found it hard to believe that Trump was stealing the players' moment.
'I knew he was going to be here, but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused,' Palmer stated, as per The Associated Press.
'I thought he was going to exit the stage, but he wanted to stay,' he added.
Chelsea fans react
One user commented on X with a picture of Trump smiling next to the team, saying, 'I am crying man, how is this a real image?' The post has received seven million views.
'Love him or hate him, this is legendary. After handing Chelsea the Club World Cup trophy, Trump was supposed to leave the podium. He didn't. Instead, he stayed up there celebrating with the players, just soaking in the win like one of the squad. You can't script this,' another commented.
'This is going down as the funniest trophy lift ever,' a third person stated.

A number of Indian celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Urvashi Rautela, Jacqueline Fernandez, Neena Gupta, Avneet Kaur, Anushka Sharma and others flocked to Wimbledon 2025 from India. She urged people not to turn the prestigious tournament into the 'next Cannes' and said that a lot of them are there just to be seen. Sophie Choudry took to her Instagram stories and wrote, 'Oh Lord. Please don't let Wimbledon become the next Cannes. I've been an avid tennis lover for more than 30years. Have literally shed tears of joy and pain over my favourites Sampras (a legit obsession at one time), Agassi, Nadal and now Alcaraz. Have scheduled watching matches between revising for school exams. Was fortunate enough to see the legend Martina Navratilova play in her last Wimbledon final amongst other epic matches before it was all about an insta post." She further added, 'But this year am suddenly seeing countless 'influencers", 'celebs" from India going there just to be seen. Am not denying that some genuinely love the game but many are there just to pose for social media. They have zero clue or interest in the game or those playing it. It's just Ughhh. Please let's not ruin one of the most beautiful tournaments in the world." Shubman Gill Reveals What King Charles III Told Him: 'The Way Siraj Got Out...'

Shubman Gill said King Charles III discussed Mohammed Siraj's wicket in the Lord's Test during their meeting. Harmanpreet Kaur's women's team also met the King. India trails 2-1. Indian men's Test captain Shubman Gill has revealed that King Charles III, the English monarch, spoke about how 'unfortunate' Mohammed Siraj's wicket was in the Lord's Test during their meeting at St. James's Palace on Tuesday (July 15). The King also asked Gill how his team felt after seeing that, to which the 25-year-old just admitted that it was unlucky to lose the match that way, and he hoped for better luck from there on. Siraj, the number 11, survived 29 balls alongside the well-set Ravindra Jadeja for a final-wicket partnership that lasted over 13 overs. They brought India close to 20 runs from a famous win, but Siraj's 30th ball was a disaster — he offered a backfoot defense to Shoaib Bashir's wide turner but the ball bounced near his front leg and rolled gently to the base of his stumps, barely toppling the bails. He was bowled and England won. 'It was amazing to meet him," Gill told reporters. 'He was very kind and generous to call us. We had some really good conversations. He told us that the way our last batsman got out in the previous test match was quite unfortunate, the ball rolling on the stumps… he was asking us how did we feel after that. We told him that it was an unfortunate match for us and could have gone either ways but hopefully, we will have better luck in both the next games," Gill added. Harmanpreet Kaur-led women's team, who are playing a white-ball series in England, also visited the Palace for the first time. Apart from the meeting, she was also asked about the rise of women's cricket. 'It was a very nice experience," Kaur said. 'We have come to England so many times but this was our first time we met him. He was very friendly and asked us about our travel and everything. It was very nice meeting him… We have been playing good cricket and we are getting a lot of opportunities to express ourselves so really happy the things are moving," she added. Her side beat England 3-2 in the five-T20I rubber and will now play three ODIs against them, starting Wednesday. Gill thanks support Gill also thanked the Indian supporters for turning up in big numbers in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 'Everywhere we go, we are very lucky and fortunate that we always have a good support (from the Indian supporters)… Although in the first couple of days, there were a lot of English supporters at Lord's but in the last three days, we got a lot of Indian supporters…" he said. India men are trailing the Test series 2-1 with the fourth Test to begin on July 23 at Old Trafford. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
