French fast food joint with ‘best' burgers in Paris is coming to UK

Metro27-05-2025
From Bleecker and Black Bear, to Supernova, Hawksmoor and Five Guys, London isn't exactly short of places to grab a burger from, but there's about to be a brand new kid on the block.
And this new fast food spot comes with a pretty impressive reputation, as it's been hailed as having the 'best' burgers in all of Paris.
Dumbo is a smash burger business, founded by Charles Ganem and Samuel Nataf in 2019, that prides itself on being a 'quality burger joint for all'.
Currently, it has four locations across Paris in Pigalle, Marais, Petites-Ecuries and Oberkampf, but as of next month it's going to be hitting the UK, opening its very first site on Bethnal Green Road in Shoreditch.
The menu is incredibly simple and there are just two smash burgers to choose from, a cheeseburger (10€, which works out at about £8.40) and the earth burger (13€, or £10.90).
The cheeseburger is made with dry aged beef, American cheese, onion, pickles, ketchup and mustard, while the earth burger is a veggie burger with a vegetarian patty, American cheese, onion, pickles and lettuce, served with special sauce.
There are also fries for 4€ (£3.35) which come in twice cooked or salted options, as well as chicken nuggets and drinks like water, soda and beer.
On social media the burgers have proved popular with foodies, with posts on Instagram proclaiming them the 'best burger ever', the 'best in town', 'amazing' and 'delicious'. In reviews, foodies say they're 'elite', 'top notch' and 'sensational'.
Speaking ahead of the London launch, Charles Ganem said: 'Our philosophy has always been simple: great ingredients, no fuss, and food that brings people together. We're excited to join the London food scene, especially at a time when smashburgers are experiencing such incredible momentum in the city.'
This comes after another Parisian smash burger concept recently launched in London, called Junk.
Located on Old Compton St in Soho, Junk sells six different smash burgers including the XXL, the Truffle Burger and a veggie burger, plus fries and Puffy cookies.
And it's not the only fast food business heading to the UK from abroad, as several others recently announced they'd be setting up shop here, including Dubai's BonBird. More Trending
Founded in 2023, BonBird's goal is to 'make chicken great again', and the brand's website describes it as a 'community chicken shop where everyone can grab a bite and share a bucket with family and friends'. The chain currently has six sites across the UAE, Qatar and Pakistan, but is exploring expansion and franchisee opportunities across Europe and Asia as well.
Fat Phill's, a burger chain from the Netherlands is also planning to expand across the UK. It already has a site in London, but is planning to open 100 new ones within the next 10 years.
For those who prefer something sweeter, don't panic as a beloved Asian dessert chain is also coming. Mammy Pancake is a street food chain based in Hong Kong that specialises in 'egg puffs' which have more commonly become known as bubble waffles.

The business was founded by Brendan Ho and Donald Lai in 2009 and now has more than 20 sites across Asia. And in an exciting turn of events, its very first international location is set to open in London's Portobello Road later this month. The new UK restaurant will be serving up some of the chain's most popular products including the original and earl grey egg puffs, as well as exciting new flavours like pistachio, strawberries and cream, sticky toffee pudding and crème brûlée.

Families of dead musicians including Ozzy Osbourne hit out at Sir Rod Stewart clip

Sir Rod Stewart has faced criticism for his 'tacky' AI video used while performing, featuring clips of the likes of Ozzy Osbourne, Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner, George Michael and Prince The family of a dead singer featured in Sir Rod Stewart's AI video have spoken out after he faced criticism. The Maggie May hitmaker is currently on the road performing to fans, but one video used during his set has come under fire. ‌ In the clip, Amy Winehouse, Ozzy Osbourne, Tina Turner, Prince, Whitney Houston, George Michael, Tupac, and XXXTentacion are seen posing for selfies while appearing to be in heaven. The AI footage has been used while Sir Rod performs Forever Young following the death of Ozzy Osbourne, who died on July 22, aged 76. ‌ The Black Sabbath legend was laid to rest during a private family funeral on their Buckinghamshire estate on July 31. The video sees Ozzy posing alongside George, Amy, Kurt Cobain, Bob Marley, Aaliyah, Michael Jackson and XXXTentacion. ‌ READ MORE: Jessie J reveals 'diagnosis' after hospital dash six weeks on from breast cancer surgery The clip, which has since gone viral on social media, has racked up over 4,000 views on TikTok and more than three million on X, formerly known as Twitter, has been branded "tacky". The original poster, Sloane Steel, who attended Sir Rod's concert in Alabama, said it was the "craziest most disrespectful s**t I ever saw in my life.". Now, Tupac's stepbrother, Mopreme Shakur, has spoken out about the clip. Speaking to TMZ, he said: "I'm pretty sure we all love Rod Stewart. I'm not sure about the legalities of it, but I have no problem with him memorialising the greats. Personally, I'm good with it." ‌ Meanwhile, XXXTentacion's mum, Cleopatra Bernard, told the American outlet that she had no problem with her late son, who was murdered in 2020, being used in the footage. One fan said on social media: "Prince didn't even want his music on Spotify… I'm 100% sure he wouldn't have signed off on Rod Stewart puppeteering his face for this tacky…" Another went on to write: "Good idea: pay tribute to Ozzy and his friends in heaven. Bad idea: making an AI‑generated video with his dead friends/members." "Omfg, I was there too and was horrified by this. The whole thing felt creepy and unnecessary," commented another. ‌ "I mean, I'm sure they didn't mean to hurt anyone, but it's just weird IMO [in my opinion]," said another social media user. A fifth shocked fan went on to write: "The Kurt one is the worst one OMG they did him so dirty." However, one social media user claimed that the clip may not have been signed off by Sir Rod's team, and instead, appeared to have been pulled from a TikTok account, Eternal Stars, which produces videos of singers who have died. ‌ Many have argued that the content came too soon following Ozzy's death, with many of the Prince of Darkness's fans, friends and family members still mourning. The footage was used just days after Ozzys' family attended a memorial for him in his hometown of Birmingham, with his wife Sharon, children Aimee, Kelly, Jack and Louis, placing flowers for him on the Black Sabbath bench on Broad Street, in the city centre. Just weeks before his death, the rocker performed at his final show during the Back to the Beginning concert at Villa Park, which he had been determined to be on stage for. His Black Sabbath bandmate, Geezer Butler, said Ozzy was "frail" but "thrilled" to be able to perform for his fans, who had stood by him throughout his career.

Britney Spears reveals how she sounds without autotune as she sings along to Otis Redding while dancing erratically in latest kooky clip

Britney Spears displayed her vocal abilities as she belted out a rendition of Otis Redding's (Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay. The singer, 43, is famed for using autotune on her catologue of hits, but kept the audio of her latest Instagram post unedited as she filmed herself singing. Britney was clad in a semi-sheer nude dress as she danced erratically while singing the Sixties hit. She captioned the clip: 'His soul makes me believe in GOD AGAIN !!! God knows I can't sing like him !!! I wish !!!' Later on Tuesday, the Toxic hitmaker filmed herself spinning around while flashing her bottom in another sheer gown. Britney is fond of sharing various dancing videos online but recently caused confusion when she took to Instagram to claim she had adopted a baby. Last month, she announced that she had 'adopted a beautiful baby girl' named Lennon London Spears, which turned out to be a joke. An insider told Daily Mail she was simply 'trying to be funny' and garner a reaction. 'Britney was just having fun when she announced that she would be adopting a girl,' our source confirmed. 'She did it for a laugh, she isn't adopting a daughter, and it also doesn't mean anything else like her getting a dog. She was just trying to be funny and see who would bite.' Britney shares sons Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden, 18, with Kevin Federline, but the family have a famously fractious relationship. The hitmaker is reportedly working on her relationship with her Jayden, with whom she has recently reunited. 'Jayden is her rock right now and if there was ever anything that broke this bond Britney would be crushed,' the insider said. 'He is all she talks about. She is helping his career and providing for him financially. He is living large now.' In the past, Jayden, has admitted to being embarrassed by his mother's social media posts. 'It's like almost as if she has to put something on Instagram to get attention,' he told ITV in 2022. 'This has gone on for years and years and years, and there's a high chance that this is never going to really stop, but I'm hoping for me, maybe she will.' Britney has been largely estranged from her sons who moved to Hawaii with their father in 2023. Following their divorce in 2007 – and a highly-publicized mental breakdown that led to Britney being placed under a 13-year conservatorship by her father Jamie Spears – Kevin was granted sole custody of the two boys in 2008. Over 17 years, she paid more than an estimated $5 million in child support, but those monthly payments came to an end last September when Jayden turned 18. Two months later, it was reported that Jayden was 'back in California' where Briney lives, though it was unclear if he was staying at her $7.4 million estate in Thousand Oaks.

I tried Tesco's £3 birthday cake sandwich and needed a glass of water

The arrival of Tesco's 'birthday cake sandwich' drew the inevitable attention of nearby colleagues when the bright purple package arrived at my desk. Launching just weeks after the M&S Strawberries and Cream version, the supermarket's cheaper take a sweet sando has gone equally viral. Metro colleagues visited two Tesco stores in an attemp to get their hands on one, only to be told fully stocked shelves had been emptied by 10.30am. Thankfully, the Whoosh delivery service came to the rescue. Released to celebrate 30 years of the Tesco Clubcard, the Victoria sponge-inspired sandwich features a brioche-style bread, filled with a strawberry jam and cream cheese filling, with a generous amount of rainbow sprinkles throughout. The limited edition launch is priced at £3 as a stand-alone item, or £4 as part of a meal deal. So, let's see what all the fuss is about. At first glance, Tesco's novelty sandwich might be mistaken for a distant cousin of the popular M&S dessert-sandwich sensation. However, as we unwrapped the packaging the initial intrigue of colleagues quickly turned into collective bemusement. On closer inspection, the vivid blue and yellow sprinkles embedded throughout the cream cheese filling evoked less of a festive celebration and more of an unfortunate mouldy appearance. Perhaps not exactly the celebration vibe Tesco was going for? Instagram and social media personality Bella Hill calls the sprinkle cream cheese combo 'colourful coleslaw' in her review. Despite its questionable appearance, the sandwich does offer an unexpected, satisfying crunch from the sprinkles, which contrast with the thick, creamy filling. But the sweetness is where the sandwich becomes divisive. The combination of jam and cream cheese is extremely sugary, and in my opinion, is verging on sickly. You'll need something to wash it down. A glance at the nutritional label explains it: the sandwich contains 35% of an adult's recommended daily sugar intake in a single serving. For those with a serious sweet tooth or simply after a novelty treat, it might just do the trick, but for most, it's likely to be a one-time curiosity rather than a regular lunch option. Perhaps a true brioche might have elevated the overall experience, giving a richer, more dessert-like quality to the sandwich. Instead, the bread provided feels much closer to a standard white loaf, making the balance of flavours feel a bit skewed. While I wouldn't buy the sandwich again, and it certainly won't be making it into my meal deal rotation, at £3 it's relatively affordable – especially in today's economy, where lunch options are creeping steadily upwards in price. But while the price point may be kind on your card, it does seem to be reflected in the overall quality. The bread feels budget, the flavours slightly unbalanced, and the execution lacks some finesse. While M&S launched their indulgent sandwich during Wimbledon in a clever nod to British summertime, the Tesco version feels more suited to a children's bithday party. Both have been divisive, with Metro's specialist food writer Courtney Pochin saying of the former: 'Anyone who claims it's the best thing they've ever eaten is probably just overhyping it for social media likes.' There's no getting around it: the Tesco version is the immature flatmate of M&S. But if this sandwich were positioned as part of a party platter, or placed in the kids' catering section alongside cupcakes and mini sausage rolls, it would likely be a hit. More Trending And surprisingly, Metro's Mel Evans actually preferred the cheaper Tesco edition, calling M&S's thicker bread and cream 'too cloying and dense.' 'Having tried both the new Tesco sandwich and the viral M&S strawberries and cream offering, I've come to the conclusion that Tesco's sweet treat edges ever so slightly ahead. Both the bread and the filling were lighter on the palate, whereas I was left struggling through the thick bread of M&S' sando. Still, both are most definitely suited to those with a sweet tooth,' she said. If you're keen to give the Tesco launch a try, you'll need to move quickly. This limited-edition sandwich is only available from August 4th to August 31st, and it's already selling out rapidly in stores.
