UFC at the White House — Plans underway to host fights in 2026: Reports
The UFC confirmed to The Athletic on Friday that plans are underway to host a slate of fights on the White House grounds in Washington D.C., next year, with an expected summer date not specified. The confirmation comes a day after President Donald Trump shared those intentions to an Iowa crowd.
'We're going to have a UFC fight, think of this, on the grounds of the White House,' Trump said. 'We have a lot of land there. ... We're going to have a UFC fight, championship fight, full fight.'
A friend of UFC president Dana White, Trump has regularly attended fights over the years, including taking in UFC 309 just days after being elected in November. He also attended fights in April and June.
After Trump made his comments to Iowa supporters, White reposted a video of the president's remarks on Instagram. He added the caption: 'This will be EPIC!!'
No further details about the 2026 fights, including how far along plans have become, were shared. Should it come to fruition, it would become the first professional sporting event ever contested on White House grounds.

Cristiano Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro defends him amid criticism over his absence at Diogo Jota's funeral: 'Sick Society'
Diogo Jota and his brother Andre's tragic death in a car accident in Cernadilla, Zamora, Spain, on Thursday, has left the football world and their fans mourning. As the football community grapples with the heartbreaking news, an outpouring of grief and messages of support have flooded in. Amid this was Cristiano Ronaldo, who already shared an emotional tribute to the late Liverpool legend. However, his decision not to attend the late footballer's funeral has drawn criticism online. Following the major backlash, Cristiano Ronaldo's sister, Katia Aveiro, has responded to all the criticisms through her Instagram story. Diogo Jota's funeral was held on Saturday, and a number of his teammates attended the service in Gondomar, near Porto, except Portugal captain Ronaldo. The Portugal player decided not to make the journey, as he was concerned that his presence could overshadow the ceremony. Cristiano Ronaldo receives criticism over his decision The 40-year-old footballer is currently receiving huge criticism for not attending Jota's funeral ceremony. As soon as fans realised the absence of Ronaldo in the funeral ceremony, many claimed his fans always make everything about Ronald. One said, "Cristiano Ronaldo survived this back in 2009. Diogo Jota called Cristiano the goat. Ronaldo would not attend the Jota funeral. He doesn't want to disrupt the atmosphere. Make it all about Cristiano." While another said, "90% of the reactions to Cristiano not attending Diogo Jota's funeral just proves that it was the right decision for Ronaldo not to attend. 🤷♂️" Cristiano Ronaldo's sister responds to the criticisms Following the backlash, Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro comes in support of the footballer and reveals the actual reasons why he was missing from the funeral ceremony. Taking to her Instagram, Aveiro shared a post on her story mentioning when their father died, the pain of loss they had to deal with, and a flood of cameras and curious onlookers at the cemetery and everywhere they went. "At the funeral, there were presidents, and coaches of the national team at the time, such as Luís Filipe Scolari, etc. I don't remember seeing any of them. And they certainly greeted me. The pain blinded me. About pain/family and real support... You will never know what it means until you go through it. If someone sends me a message criticising anything my brother does, I will block it (completely ignore it); that is, they will only do it once, she added. A decisão de Cristiano Ronaldo em não comparecer nas cerimónias fúnebres de Diogo Jota e André Silva tem dividido opiniões, o que motivou a reação da irmã do jogador.Kátia Aveiro defendeu o irmão e recordou o funeral do próprio pai de modo a explicar a decisão de Ronaldo. Katia Aveiro slammed social media and society for their judgment Aveiro did not stop there; she went on to add, "It's getting tiring. The fanaticism. The criticism for nothing, I repeat, nothing... Sick society... We all have families." "It is absurdly shameful to watch TV channels/commentators/social networks emphasising an absence (wise) rather than respectfully honouring the pain of a mutilated family destroyed by the loss of two brothers. I am even ashamed to watch it. Regrettable." According to her, the world goes on; society and opinions, once valued, now feel worthless, like bottomless pits. "I feel sorry, because even war is like that—human evil is its own kind of war, and every day, we must fight against it." Apart from Aveiro, netizens on a Reddit thread wrote, "He also doesn't go to weddings to avoid the media frenzy." Another added, "He knows that he will draw too much attention to himself by the media. The funeral is about Jota and his family, and he knows that he will take the spotlight. He probably contacted them of his decision, and they both decided it would be for the best if he didn't come." Cristiano Ronaldo's last tribute to Diogo Jota Ronaldo did post an emotional tribute to Jota on social media after the tragic news broke on Thursday. In his post, he wrote, "It doesn't make sense. We were just together on the national team, and you had just gotten married. "To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them. Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre. We will all miss you." To stay updated on the stories that are going viral, follow Indiatimes Trending.

Elon Musk launches American Party after fallout with Donald Trump
Billionaire businessman Elon Musk on Saturday announced that he had launched a new political party, named the America Party. The announcement came two days after the US Congress passed Trump's $4.5 trillion package of tax cuts and spending reductions, officially titled the ' One, Big, Beautiful Bill '. The bill ends federal subsidies for clean energy and electric vehicles to fund increases in military and border security spending. This move was reportedly one of the reasons for the falling-out between Trump and Musk, his former supporter. On Saturday, Musk described the American Party as an alternative to the US' two-party system, criticising both Democrats and Republicans for contributing to national debt through wasteful spending and corruption. It remains unclear if the American Party has been registered with the country's Election Commission yet, BBC reported. New political parties are not required to officially register with the Federal Election Commission unless they raise or spend money 'over certain thresholds in connection with a federal election'. Notably, Musk is not eligible to run in the US presidential elections as he was born outside the country. He is yet to announce who will lead the new party, BBC reported. On Friday, the US Independence Day, he conducted an online poll, asking if Americans wanted 'independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system'. The poll received more than 1.2 million responses. 'By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it,' Musk said in a social media post. By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it! When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom. — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 5, 2025 Musk had been a key Trump supporter since late 2024 and had appeared at several rallies in the run-up to the presidential elections. He contributed nearly $250 million to Trump's re-election campaign, becoming his largest individual donor. On January 20, the day Trump took office for his second term, he created the Department of Government Efficiency through an executive order and assigned Musk in charge of it. The businessman resigned from the administration on May 29, criticising Trump's 'One, Big, Beautiful Bill'. The legislation entails tax cuts of about $4.5 trillion that Trump had enacted during his first term, and additional tax breaks. However, the reduction in tax revenue is to be offset by cutbacks in social safety net programmes, such as the Medicaid health insurance programme and food stamps. The bill also includes an investment of about $350 billion in national security and the deportation of undocumented migrants. Musk was reportedly upset that the bill lacked support for clean energy and did not include subsidies for electric vehicles, such as those made by his company Tesla. On July 1, Trump accused the businessman of being overly dependent on government aid and threatened that he would cut subsidies that Musk's companies received. 'Without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.' Trump also threatened to have the Department of Government Efficiency investigate subsidies benefiting Musk's companies, including Tesla, rocket company SpaceX and satellite provider Starlink.
