22-year-old held with 10.5 kg cannabis in Indore; tried to flee during police check, booked under NDPS act
The accused, identified as Sohan Dawar, a resident of Shail Maheshwar village in Khargone district, was caught during a routine surveillance check.
Upon noticing the approaching police vehicle, he attempted to flee, arousing suspicion. He was quickly surrounded and detained for questioning.
During the preliminary interrogation, Dawar confessed to procuring cannabis at low prices and selling it at higher rates in Indore to drug-dependent individuals in a bid to make quick money. He admitted that he had come to the city with the intent to distribute the contraband.
The police recovered 10.504 kilograms of cannabis and one mobile phone from his possession.
According to officials, Dawar is a B.Sc. dropout and works in welding. He has now been booked under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of his network and whether he had accomplices involved in the trafficking operation. The Crime Branch has reiterated its commitment to a zero-tolerance approach against narcotics and continues to gather intelligence for decisive action against such offenders.

Woman from Palghar held for smuggling 62cr cocaine
Mumbai: A 40-year-old woman from Palghar was arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for smuggling around 6.6kg of cocaine worth Rs 62 crore hidden in 300 capsules between biscuits and chocolates at the Mumbai International Airport on Monday. Kerala native arrested for peddling drugs in Bengaluru
The Koramangala police on Monday arrested a 27-year-old postgraduate in English literature and allegedly recovered 1.08g of hydro ganja worth ₹1 crore from him. The accused Antony Mathew, according to the police, is a native of Kerala. After completing his postgraduation, he started blogging and also peddled drugs to make money, said the police. Based on specific information, a police team pinned down the accused near NGV Gate where he had allegedly come to deliver the drugs to his customers, who are students and IT professionals. The accused allegedly confessed to the police that he was sourcing the drugs from his contacts in Kerala and peddling them here for the last few months. The accused has been booked under the NDPS Act and further investigation is on to track down his network. In another incident, the Yelahanka police arrested two Ghanians and allegedly seized 700g of MDMA worth ₹70 lakh. The accused, identified as Bright, 45, and Kofi, 44, had come to India on a medical visa in 2023 and allegedly overstayed to peddle drugs. The accused had rented a house in Yelahanka and were operating in different parts of the city. The police have also booked the owner of the house for renting out the house to foreign nationals without following the due procedure.
