Geely marks 200,000th unit of Xingyuan EV
With a starting price of 68,800 yuan (approximately RM45,000), the Xingyuan offers customers a competitive range of features for its segment. Two powertrain options are available: a 58 kW variant capable of a 310km range under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), and a more powerful 85 kW version that extends the range to 410km. These choices provide buyers with greater flexibility compared to many other vehicles in the same class.
The Xingyuan features Geely's distinctive rounded front design and a hatchback rear profile. Measuring 4,135 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,650 mm, it offers a relatively spacious interior, especially in the rear, giving it a practical edge over similarly sized competitors such as the Seagull or the BYD Dolphin here. The model is available in a range of colour options, including standout shades like pink and blue, and includes semi-concealed door handles for a cleaner exterior look.
Inside, the Xingyuan is equipped with an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster as standard, while a 14.6-inch central touchscreen powered by Flyme Auto OS is available as an upgrade. Additional technology includes a 540-degree surround camera system, heated seats, wireless phone charging, and an external pedestrian alert sound system. The car also supports multiple drive modes tailored for various driving environments, including outdoor conditions.
Both versions utilise lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by CATL, with fast-charging capabilities that allow the battery to be replenished from 30 to 80 percent in approximately 21 minutes. Performance-wise, the 85 kW model can accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, positioning it among the quicker options in the entry-level segment while maintaining a longer driving range than many competitors.
The milestone of 200,000 units produced demonstrates the Xingyuan's rising prominence in the domestic EV sector. Its blend of affordability, practical range, and advanced features has made it an attractive proposition for buyers looking beyond the usual low-cost electric offerings.
In Malaysia, the model was recently introduced by Proton as the e.MAS 5, joining the e.MAS line-up as the more compact sibling to the forthcoming e.MAS 7. With its competitive specifications and proven market performance in China, the e.MAS 5 is expected to contribute significantly to Proton's growing ambitions in the electric vehicle space.

EPF i-Saraan programme boosts financial literacy for youth in Malaysia
GEORGE TOWN: The Employees Provident Fund's (EPF) i-Saraan programme is playing a crucial role in equipping the younger generation with financial knowledge and fostering a savings culture. Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying highlighted its significance, noting that the initiative now includes teenagers as young as 14 years old. Speaking at the EPF i-Saraan Contribution Presentation Ceremony for Tanjong B40 Students, Lim emphasised the programme's benefits beyond self-employed individuals. 'This move will help to instil a savings culture and build financial management awareness from a young age so that future generations are better prepared and resilient in facing economic challenges,' she said. The event saw participation from students and teachers of five schools: St. Xavier's Institution, Kolej Tingkatan Enam Hutchings, SMK Westlands, SMKA Perempuan Al-Mashoor, and the Penang Methodist Girls School. Under the i-Saraan scheme, contributors receive a 20 per cent annual government incentive, capped at RM500 per year, with a lifetime limit of RM5,000. Lim, who is also the Tanjong MP, stressed that every ringgit saved is an investment for the future. In 2024, the government allocated RM114.8 million for the programme, benefiting over 529,000 contributors. Lim also announced her personal contribution of RM10,000 to open i-Saraan accounts for 200 B40 students, providing each with RM50 as a starting fund. 'I hope that this is not just about opening an account but also a symbol of our confidence in your potential to take this step towards financial literacy,' she added. - Bernama

RM900,000 road upgrade begins to ease Sibu traffic bottleneck
Tiang (second right), accompanied by other officials, inspects the ongoing road improvement project at the intersection. SIBU (July 17): A road improvement project aimed at easing traffic congestion at the Jalan Wong Soon Kai-Jalan Ling Kai Cheng-Jalan Deshon traffic light intersection has commenced this month, said State Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang. The RM900,000 project, implemented by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), is expected to be completed within four months. 'The project involves constructing an extra 400-metre right-turn lane from Jalan Wong Soon Kai into Jalan Deshon. 'Traffic in this area is particularly heavy during peak hours when people commute to and from work,' Tiang said during a site inspection yesterday. 'We observed long queues in front of the traffic lights, so SMC proposed expanding the road by constructing a right-turn lane to Jalan Deshon. 'This addition is expected to significantly ease traffic movement along Jalan Ling Kai Cheng and Jalan Deshon.' Tiang, who was accompanied by SMC chairman Clarence Ting, expressed confidence that the project could be completed ahead of schedule, given its current progress. He also called on the Public Works Department (JKR) to implement a complementary improvement by constructing an extra right-turn lane from Jalan Deshon into Jalan Ling Kai Cheng. 'This will complement the existing project and help further resolve the bottleneck problem at the intersection,' he added. lead Michael Tiang road upgrade Sibu traffic bottleneck
