Jordan Henderson returns to the Premier League with Brentford after Ajax exit
"I'll try my best to pass on my experiences, especially to the younger players. But, at the same time, I still need to perform and do my job on the pitch'."It's a given that I'll help everybody around me, but even at my age, you can still learn a lot, you can still improve, and you can still get better, which is what I want to do at this club."Henderson makes his return to English top-flight football after a two-year absence. He had left Liverpool in 2023 to join Saudi Arabia's Al-Ettifaq, where he played for just six months, and followed it with his recent stint with Ajax, where he made 57 appearances for the Dutch club.He even had a surprise return to the England squad under Thomas Tuchel despite being excluded from the Euro 2024 squad.Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said, 'When we became aware of Jordan's availability, it was a pretty simple decision.'We did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is: he's still phenomenally fit and he's still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot,' he added. After moving to Liverpool from his boyhood club, Sunderland, Henderson went on to replace Steven Gerrad as the Liverpool captain and led them to the Premier League and Champions League titles under Jurgen Klopp. He will hope to bring similar returns with Brentford in the coming season.- EndsTrending Reel

‘If there was even a little bit of fight from the top…': Sourav Ganguly rues India's batting failure at Lord's Test
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was left disappointed by India's inability to chase 193 against England at Lord's despite having the exceptional talent and quality in the dressing room. Except for Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul, no other recognized batter from the team could even cross 20 runs as they lost by 22 runs and now trail the series 1-2. 'A little bit disappointed. With the way India batted in this series, they should have got this 190. When you saw Jadeja fight and score the runs, batting quality in this team and they will be more disappointed then I am because it was an opportunity to get 2-1 up in the series against England. I am sure that they will be disappointed not getting to 190 especially with the quality of batsmanship they have in that dressing room,' Ganguly said at the Indian Racing League & F4 India Championship event on Tuesday. Ganguly also said had the top-order batter applied a bit better, the result would have been different while also lavishing praise on Jadeja. 'If there was even a little bit of fight from the top, this game would have been India's match, he said. 'Jadeja has been exceptional, he is going to continue to play for India as long as he bats and performs like this. He has been around for a long time. He has played some 80 Test matches and more than 200 one-day games. You can see him batting, bowling, and fielding. He is a special player and his batting has really improved over the years with the experience. He is a special player and very important part of this team,' he added. On Monday, the day started with India requiring 135 runs and England having to pick six wickets after setting the visitors a 193-run target. The hosts got four Indian batters out before lunch but were made to work hard for the remaining two wickets in the last two sessions. India were finally all out for 170. Archer (3/55) and Stokes (3/48) were the chief architects of the English victory, even as Jadeja battled hard for India with a gritty unbeaten 61. (With agency inputs)

Brentford Signs England International Jordan Henderson On 2-Year Deal
England midfielder Jordan Henderson insists he can still thrive in the Premier League after joining Brentford on a free transfer on Tuesday following his exit from Dutch side Ajax. Henderson agreed a two-year contract with the Bees as he returned to the Premier League after leaving Liverpool in 2023. "After a couple of years away I still have that fire to come back and play in the Premier League again," the 35-year-old said. "Obviously it's the best league in the world, with the best players. So it's a big challenge but one I'm keen on doing. "When I was given the opportunity by Brentford and after speaking with the club it became an easy decision." Henderson will face his boyhood club Sunderland in August before an emotional return to Liverpool in October. "Both clubs mean a lot to me. I owe a lot to Sunderland and then Liverpool was a huge part of my life," he said. "But when I'm playing against them there's no friends, we know that in football." Brentford's new manager Keith Andrews moved for Henderson after losing Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard to Arsenal. "When we became aware of Jordan's availability, it was a pretty simple decision," Andrews said. "We did our due diligence around his recent games to see where he is. He's still phenomenally fit and he's still phenomenally motivated to achieve things in the game, having already achieved a lot. "With the void of experienced players leaving the building - Christian Norgaard, Mark Flekken and Ben Mee - it was important to replace that. "What Jordan will bring is that he has been one of the most influential leaders in modern Premier League years. He's been at the forefront of driving for titles and Champions Leagues at a fantastic football club." Henderson has 84 England caps and was recently recalled by Three Lions boss Thomas Tuchel. He spent 12 years with Liverpool, winning the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League in 2020 among numerous other trophies, before a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq two years ago. Henderson was accused of putting money above principles, having previously spoken out in support of the LGBTQ community. His contract with Al-Ettifaq was cancelled just six months later. Henderson subsequently joined Ajax, earning the captaincy and making 57 appearances for the Dutch club. However, Ajax's late collapse cost them the Eredivisie title last season and his contract was terminated last week with a year still left to run.

Manchester City Sign Kit Deal Worth Reported 1 Billion Pounds
Manchester City have signed a blockbuster new kit deal with Puma worth a reported £1 billion ($1.34 billion) over the next 10 years. City's extension of their contract with Puma ranks as the largest kit manufacturing partnership in Premier League history. Having agreed a £65 million per year deal with the German company in 2019, City's new arrangement is believed to be worth a £100 million per year until 2035, according to British media reports. That figure shatters the £90 million per year deal signed by Manchester United with Adidas in 2023. Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are both reported to have kit deals worth in excess of £100 million per year. "We joined forces with Puma with the ambition to challenge ourselves and go beyond the expectations. We have achieved this and more over the last six seasons," City Football Group chief executive Ferran Soriano said. "Puma have seamlessly integrated into our organisation, and we have enjoyed many historic moments together, engaging fans globally." Puma chief executive Arthur Hoeld added: "Puma's partnership with Manchester City has been a great success both on and off the pitch. "Trophies, a perfect stage for our performance products and commercial success were exceptional." City's massive deal comes after the club's first season without major silverware since 2016-17. Pep Guardiola's men finished third in the Premier League after winning the title for the previous four seasons. They also suffered a shock FA Cup final defeat against Crystal Palace and crashed out of the recent Club World Cup in the last 16 against Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
