THCAA members meet CM, seek advocates housing society at Rjnr
Hyderabad: The Legal CorrespondentTelangana High Court Advocates Association (THCAA) Executive Committee met Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at his residence in Jubilee Hills on Sunday. THCAA President Anumula Jagan, Secretary Khaja Vizarath Ali and other committee members submitted a representation to CM Revanth Reddy highlighting the grievances of High Court Advocates and legal fraternity.
They requested to allocate 50 acres of land around the New High Court Building, which is under construction at Rajendranagar for the establishment of an Advocates Housing Society, which would greatly benefit the legal community.
Moreover, the executive committee congratulated CM Revanth on the allocation of Rs. 1,028 crore for the construction of the New High Court Building at Rajendranagar.
Additionally, they appealed for an annual allocation of Rs. 5 crore to the Telangana High Court Advocates Association to support various developmental and welfare activities for advocates. Furthermore, they requested to extend health insurance benefits to all eligible advocates enrolled post-2019 and to enhance monthly stipend to Junior Advocates from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 to support their sustenance and growth in the profession.
They stressed the need of Advocates Protection Act, due to several brutal and disturbing attacks on advocates across the state of Telangana, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among members of the legal profession.
THCAA President Anumula Jagan, Vice President G. Rajeshwar Reddy, Secretary Khaja Vizarath Ali, N. Indrasena Reddy, N. Anirudh, Papiah, Ramu and other executive committee members were present.

Telangana students face hardship as fee reimbursement dues mount
HYDERABAD: Engineering students and those who passed Intermediate are facing enormous delays in receiving their certificates due to unresolved fee reimbursement issues, with private colleges withholding certificates despite state government orders. The government had instructed all private college managements not to retain certificates of students who completed their studies in the previous academic year on the grounds of pending reimbursements. An estimated Rs 800 crore in fee reimbursements is pending, covering professional, non-professional, and private junior colleges. Although Rs 200 crore worth of payment tokens have recently been issued, the actual funds are yet to be released. This is not the first time such hardship has occurred; last year too, many students faced similar difficulties in obtaining their certificates. Despite a government order issued two months ago to avert certificate withholding, they have failed to comply. In addition to the reimbursement issue, some private colleges in the city are reportedly demanding full fees up front from newly admitted undergraduate students, refusing admission otherwise. 'It's been three months since I completed my and I'm still struggling to obtain my certificates. I was recently shortlisted for an IT job but couldn't provide the required documents, as the college refused to give them until I paid the remaining fees,' said Sai Durga, a recent graduate. 'Due to delayed reimbursements, colleges are unable to manage their expenses, especially hostel maintenance. Basic amenities are being denied to students. Several representations have been submitted to higher education officials, but they have gone unheard,' said Aravelli Jagan, student union leader, JNTUH. Denying allegations of withholding certificates, Suryanarayana Reddy, State President of the Telangana State Private Degree and PG Colleges Management Association, said, 'We are not withholding certificates, but we are requesting students to pay pending fees. The state government has delayed the reimbursement for the past three years, with total dues reaching Rs 800 crore.'

Andhra Pradesh government initiates PACS nominations
VIJAYAWADA: In a move welcomed by TDP, JSP, and BJP activists in the erstwhile Krishna district, the State government has initiated the process of filling up nominated posts for Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS). These much-anticipated appointments are expected to be completed in the coming days, bringing joy to party cadre who have been waiting for over five years since the last PACS elections in 2018. As per official sources, the names of PACS Chairmen and members for Krishna district have been finalised and forwarded to the District Cooperative Office by the Commissioner for Co-operation and Registrar of Co-operative Societies. Out of the 424 PACS under Krishna DCCB—212 in Krishna and 212 across NTR and Eluru districts—75 nominations were released on Sunday. These appointments largely cover constituencies like Machilipatnam, Pedana, Penamaluru, Pamarru, and parts of Gannavaram. The Krishna District Cooperative Central Bank Ltd (DCCB), under which the PACS function, is the largest in AP. With deposits amounting to Rs 3,094 crore, advances of Rs 7,955 crore, and a total business volume of Rs 11,049 crore, the DCCB holds major influence in rural finance and agricultural support. The PACS under DCCB provide crucial services such as loans, fertilizers, and implementation of farmers' welfare schemes. Given its prominence, the DCCB Chairman post is highly sought after, often contested vigorously in PACS elections. However, since 2018, no PACS elections have been held. The previous YSRCP government opted to fill these posts through nominations, treating them as political accommodations.

"There Are Kathavachaks Who Charge Rs 50 Lakh": Akhilesh Yadav Jabs Dhirendra Shastri
Lucknow: Amid an ongoing controversy over the assault on a non-Brahmin ' kathavachak ' (religious storyteller) in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday took a jibe at religious leader Acharya Dhirendra Shastri and said there are many storytellers who charge Rs 50 lakh. "Many kathavachaks charge Rs 50 lakh for an event. Can anyone afford Dhirendra Shastri for a katha (religious ceremony) at their residence? He takes the money under the table," he told reporters in Hindi. Mr Yadav said he doesn't know how much Mr Shastri, also known as Bageshwar Baba, charges for storytelling, but claimed "it is not free". There was no immediate response from Mr Shastri. 'Kathavachak' Row In UP Akhilesh Yadav's charge comes days after two Bhagwat Katha preachers, Mukut Mani Yadav, and his aide, Sant Singh Yadav, were allegedly tonsured and humiliated in a village in Etawah. The incident on June 22 allegedly took place when it was found that they belonged to the Yadav caste. The incident triggered widespread protests in the village and led to the arrest of four accused -- Ashish Tiwari, Uttam Kumar Awasthi, Nikki Awasthi and Manu Dubey -- all residents of the village. Akhilesh Yadav, the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, had shared a video of the incident, which showed the accused purportedly saying, "You are getting punished for coming to the village of Brahmins." He has attacked the ruling BJP over the alleged assault and said the incident was part of a larger conspiracy to divide Uttar Pradesh along caste lines by bringing in "planted elements" from neighbouring states.
