Beeline of devotees at Shiv temples in Prayagraj marks 1st ‘Somvar' of Shrawan

1 2 3 4 5 6 Prayagraj: All prominent Lord Shiv temples in Sangam city witnessed a huge rush of devotees on the occasion of the first 'Somvar' of the ongoing Shrawan month, considered to be one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. All the temples reverberated with chants of 'Har Har Mahadev' and 'Om Namah Shivay'. Prominent Lord Shiv temples across the city, including Mankameshwar, Someshwar Mahadev and Padila Mahadev, witnessed long queues of devotees waiting for their turn to offer prayers to Lord Shiv. Barricading by police around prominent Lord Shiv temples, including Mankameshwar and Padila Mahadev, helped the police as well as temple authorities to regulate the crowd. There were separate entry and exit points, and a network of CCTV cameras kept a constant watch on the activities of devotees. The devotees offered milk, honey, sandalwood paste, and leaves of wood apple on the 'shivaling'. Throwing light on the importance of Shrawan 'Somvar', noted religious scholar Dr Amitabh Gour says, "Lord Shiv showers blessings on devotees, and this motivates scores of Shiva devotees, especially kanwariyas, to travel hundreds of kilometres barefoot and offer prayers at the Shiva 'jyotirlinga'." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Shimoga: 1 Trick to Reduce Belly Fat? As it is believed that the worship of Lord Shiv during the Shrawan month is 108 times more powerful than worshipping during normal days, scores of devotees keep Vrat (fasting) and perform puja and other purification rituals. The devotees offer Bilva leaves (Bel Patra), white flowers, water, honey, and milk. "

US-born Indians are embracing their country of origin now more than before, claims report

Indian-Americans are embracing their Indianness now more than before, claims report. Indian-Americans are leaning more towards their Indian identity than before and they feel they are equally Indian and American, though they are born in the US, a report by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace revealed. The report based on the 2024 Indian-American Attitude Survey revealed that 86 per cent of US-born Indian-Americans said being Indian is an important party of their upbringing, while the figure was 70 per cent in 2020. The proportion of respondents identifying as 'Indian American' dropped, while the proportion identifying as 'Asian Indian' rose, the report said. The survey was conducted online over 1206 Indian-American adults by polling firm YouGov including both US citizens and non-citizen respondents. 'The idea of being both Indian and American is becoming stronger,' the report said. Role of Indian food and culture "Noncitizens had the greatest degree of personal, ongoing connection with India, but both U.S.-born and naturalized citizens did exhibit significant cultural connections with their Indian roots. For instance, in aggregate, eight in ten Indian Americans reported eating Indian food in the month prior to the survey," the report said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Top Public Speaking Course for Children Planet Spark Book Now Undo 65 per cent watched Indian television or movies in the past month when the survey was done, while 38 per cent engaged with Indian dance, music, or art in some form or fashion in the past six months. Only 7 per cent of respondents reported engaging in none of these cultural practices. On caste identity The report said 32 per cent of survey respondents reported that they did not identify with any caste. 46 per cent identified as General or Upper caste. The overwhelming majority of Indian American respondents supported measures to formally outlaw caste discrimination. "One in two respondents reported experiencing discrimination in the past one year, the most common form of which was biased treatment based on skin color. Indian Americans perceived discrimination against Muslims to be especially common," it said.

‘The road not taken... was also blocked': What made this Bengaluru Redditor compare traffic to a zombie movie?

Bengaluru traffic woes are no secret, but a recent post on Reddit has gone viral for perfectly capturing the chaos many residents face every day. A user compared their blocked commute to being stuck in a zombie movie, triggering a wave of relatable responses from frustrated citizens. Usual Route Turns into a Maze of Road Closures The post, titled 'Riding in Bengaluru is like a maze', was shared by Reddit user @Infinite-Fold-1360. They explained how a typical ride to the office turned into a nightmare because of multiple road blockages caused by sewage work. "I started from my house at 10 am, hoping to reach the office by 10:30. The first street was blocked. The second route? Also blocked due to sewage work. The third one had a mile-long jam because all other roads were blocked,' the user wrote. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nova Friburgo: Método fácil para ganhar músculo após os 50+ (comece hoje) Revista do Homem Saiba Mais Undo "Felt Like a Zombie Movie", Says Redditor The user said they barely moved from their location by 10:15 am. Sharing their frustration, they added, 'Not just me, but I saw so many two-wheelers confused, trying to negotiate the maze. Felt like a zombie movie where everyone is running around like a headless chicken.' Eventually, they gave up on reaching the office and returned home to attend meetings online. They ended the post with a striking line: 'It is sad that our daily tragedy is turning into an experience of negotiating a maze.' Live Events Bengaluru Residents Relate: 'It's Like Playing Tetris on a Bike' The post quickly gained attention, with fellow Bengalureans jumping into the comments to share their own stories. One user wrote, 'Riding a bike here is like playing Tetris. You just try to fit wherever you can. Total chaos, waste of time, money, and mental health.' Another said, 'I just moved to Bengaluru and I already feel this pain. It's madness.' Some Blame Poor Planning, Others Praise Google Maps Several users suggested using apps like Google Maps to find alternate routes. One commented, 'Thank God for Maps. It's the only way I survive daily commutes.' Others pointed out how both two-wheelers and four-wheelers now share the same suffering. One said, 'The pure pleasure of seeing bike riders feel the same pain as us on four wheels.' Why Bengaluru's Traffic Keeps Making Headlines Bengaluru, India's tech hub, has long struggled with traffic congestion, made worse by ongoing construction, poor drainage systems, and rapid urban growth. Social media has become a platform where locals vent, laugh, and cry about their commute experiences, with many posts like this going viral for highlighting real and relatable issues.
