Before joining Emmerdale, he starred in Eric & Ernie and Trying Again, and Thomas' character committed several murders in the soap.
In 2018, he confirmed his exit from the soap after four-and-a-half years of portraying the serial killer, who was going to prison for a very long time.
And in a heartbreaking recent update, it has been revealed that Tom's younger brother took his own life.
Now, one of his brother Matt's close friends is running the Manchester Half Marathon in his memory, as well as to raise money.
The Emmerdale star posted a photo of his younger brother, and wrote a heartbreaking caption.
It read: 'Hi all. I haven't posted anything about this yet for the privacy of my family, but now I feel is the right time to do so.
'In October of last year, as I'm sure many of you will already know, my younger brother, Matt, tragically took his life. It's been the hardest time of mine and my family's lives, and we've really appreciated all the kindness we've received from those of you that knew him.
'Matt was a wonderful, kind, and incredibly funny person. Words cannot describe just how much he'll be missed by so many people.
'One of Matt's close friends @amackie99 is running the Manchester Half Marathon this weekend in memory of my brother, as well as to raise money for Empowerment Charity Lancashire.
EastEnders win TV Bafta for the first time in six years after Emmerdale was forced to withdraw
'They're a charity based here in the northwest set up to support families and friends who've been affected by suicide, as well as providing emotional support for those who need it. They've been there for my family since we lost Matt, as they are for many others across the Lancashire area, offering support to families and to us when we needed it most.'
Tom continued: 'If you can spare anything at all, please consider donating through the link in my bio. The money goes directly to helping other families like mine who are dealing with loss in the most awful of circumstances.
'I'd also like to kindly ask for your understanding and respect for our privacy during this time. While I'm sharing this to support a cause close to my heart, my family and I are still processing our grief, and we appreciate the space to do so in our own way. Your thoughtfulness means everything to us right now.
'If any of you ever feel low, know that it's okay to be so. And if you ever need to talk things through, Samaritans are always there to listen on 116 123.'
In the tribute to his brother, actor Tom posted a string of photos ranging from more recent pictures to throwbacks of them together as kids.
Devastated followers shared their words of support in the comments, as one person wrote: 'Sorry for ur loss, thoughts for all who loved & knew ur brother. What beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing.'
A second person added: 'So so sorry for your loss Tom, my deepest condolences and sending love to you and your family.'
And a third echoed: 'So sorry to hear Tom, can't imagine what you've been going through.'

Bob Bubka dead age 83: Legendary reporter and ‘Voice of Golf' who covered Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods passes away

Then in 2000, Bubka landed a job with talkSPORT, bringing his iconic New York tones to the UK sport radio station. And his standing in golf saw him respected and revered by all. That included two of the greatest golfers of all time - Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Nicklaus was made an honourary citizen of St Andrews in 2022 and personally invited his dear friend Bubka to be there. And even the notoriously private Woods went out of his way to greet Bubka at The Open that year, seeking him out after a press conference after the iconic broadcaster travelled to the event despite poor health. Rubert Bell of talkSPORT paid an emotional tribute to his great friend and colleague. Bell said: 'Radio is about voice. There is no doubt when you heard Bob Bubka speak, it just grabbed you. 'Unmistakable, iconic, coupled with a wonderful, unique style. For over 25 years, his distinctive American tones enthralled and entertained talkSPORT listeners. 'His love for the game of golf shone through, coupled with a cheeky, almost rebellious element which made him not only a delight to listen to - but in my case - to work with. Baffled Rory McIlroy hits TWO balls with ONE shot in incredible never-seen-before incident at The Open 'Bob was unashamedly biased when it came to Tiger Woods - in awe of his achievements - particularly as he had been brought up in the Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer era. It was a testament to Bob that Tiger always seemed to reach out and say hello. 'In later years, Bob's health made it difficult to travel and his last Open in situ was at St Andrews in 2022. 'He loved being there - and the relish in which he drove his motorised wheelchair around the city was fantastic. 'But what he also loved was the interaction with talkSPORT listeners - and I know in the end, being part of the talkSPORT family was so important to him as he struggled with ill health. 'Even when physically frail, that voice never faltered. Covering the majors will never be the same without that delicious voice drawing us into the magnificent sport of golf.' Others in the golfing world took to social media to post their messages and memories. Mike Parry said: "I'm really saddened to hear of the death of my great pal and legendary golf commentator Bob Bubka. "He was THE best with an incomparably silky voice and unparalleled knowledge of the game. I worked six Opens with him. Joyous professional days... RIP Big Man." Jonathan Norman added: "After marvelling at his voice and broadcasting style for a decade, it was one of my career highs to work with Bob at the 2014 Ryder Cup. "He will be missed greatly. Thoughts with Janice and all Bob's family and friends. RIP." Another wrote: "RIP Bob Bubka….. the voice of golf." And a final user wrote: "Ahhh such sad news. RIP Bob Bubka, the voice of golf. Could listen to him all day."

British man orders McDonald's in Benidorm and cost of two meals leaves him floored

A man was left gobsmacked when he purchased two meals from McDonald's in Benidorm, wondering why it was that price. He also complimented the view from the restaurant No matter where in Europe you go, chances are, you won't be too far away from a McDonald's. It's cheap, cheerful, and if you're a fussy eater in need of some home comforts while you're away, it's the perfect place to nip with pals. But when one Brit in Benidorm ordered two meals from the Spanish Maccies, he was left floored at how much it cost him. ‌ "Could this be the nicest McDonald's in the whole entire world?" Harry, who posts on TikTok as @harrytokky, asked his followers. He showed the view from the Maccies, saying: "You're not gonna get better than this." Unlike your typical Maccies outlets, this one looks out onto the sea. ‌ But he then joked "who cares about the view," saying that he was going to go inside because he was "desperate for a Happy Meal". ‌ Sitting outside, he said: "And just like that, the food has arrived. Now you will not believe how cheap this was. We've got two meals here. Guess how much this costs? €11 (£9.53)". Harry continued, explaining that there are two fries, two burgers, two drinks, and some chicken nuggets on the side as well. ‌ He gushed: "I mean, €11? What do you think guys? I think that's an absolute bargain, let's be honest. €11? In the UK, that'd probably be at least £20." In the UK, a large Big Mac meal costs around £7.69, depending on location. Meanwhile, six chicken nuggets cost around £3.49, depending on location. So Harry is right, it is significantly cheaper in Benidorm. The whole meal would cost roughly £18.87, which is 98% more expensive! ‌ While some people in the comments section moaned that Benidorm McDonald's has "slow" service, others said the wait was well worth it. One said they'd had the "best Big Mac" ever at the Benidorm Maccies, while another gushed it was the "best view" you'll get under the Golden Arches. However, the taste may differ. One visitor remarked: "Their chicken nuggets are definitely different from English ones". People have also taken to TripAdvisor to share their experiences of Benidorm's McDonald's. One said it was a "fantastic" place to get "cheap food on vacation" while in Spain. Meanwhile, another reviewer wrote: "Visited this McDonald's as we wanted something like home while on holidays, and it was a great experience. I got the McCrispy Burger meal, and we got the bacon & cheese wedges for sharing, and it was all so delicious! "It came out slightly colder than we would have liked, but we still ate it. The restaurant was clean and the staff were lovely! "We used the machines as you entered to order our food, and they provided all languages. McFlurry was great as well. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family".
