FBI warns of threats to July 4 events in NYC and SF. Here's all you need to know
ABC News reported that intelligence bulletins were sent out ahead of the holiday. 'We are concerned about the potential threat of copycat attacks inspired by the 2025 New Year's Day vehicle-ramming attack in New Orleans and continued messaging [from foreign terrorist organisations (FTOs)] calling for attacks against Western targets,' two of the bulletins warn.
Law enforcement agencies are especially focused on individuals acting alone, noting that these so-called 'lone offenders' can often operate under the radar and strike without warning. 'Lone offenders, in particular, remain a concern due to their ability to often avoid detection until operational and to inflict significant casualties,' the bulletins say.

Officials say these potential attackers may be motivated by a wide variety of grievances, but one area of heightened concern is the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which they fear could trigger acts of violence on U.S. soil.
'Of these actors, U.S.-based violent extremists supporting FTOs and [domestic violent extremists] not linked to FTOs represent two of the most persistent threats,' according to the intelligence alerts.
There are also concerns about physical threats in and around event spaces, including the potential use of weapons, drones, or even more unconventional means of harm.
The bulletins specifically mention 'malicious actors and violent extremists' possibly entering July 4 gatherings or even peaceful protests with 'weapons, chemical irritants, bodily fluids or other hazardous materials.'
Notably, authorities are still haunted by past holiday attacks, including the 2022 Highland Park shooting, where a lone gunman opened fire during a 4 July parade, killing seven people and injuring many more.

A five-storey building collapsed in Pakistan on Friday, killing at least seven people and injuring eight, officials said, with rescuers searching through the rubble for trapped victims. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirmed the death toll to reporters as he visited the site. Up to 100 people had been living in the building, senior police officer Arif Aziz told AFP. Saad Edhi, of the Edhi welfare foundation that is part of the rescue operation, told AFP there could be "at least eight to 10 more people still trapped", describing it as a "worn-out building". Nearby residents rushed to save their neighbours before rescuers took over to remove the rubble, along with at least five excavators. The heavy machinery struggled to access the narrow alleys, and police baton-charged residents to clear the way.

Ukraine Attacked With Putin's Largest Barrage Of War Shortly After Trump Call
Ukraine: Russia launched its largest-ever drone and missile attack on Ukraine overnight on Friday just hours after a telephone call between US and Russian presidents ended without any breakthrough. AFP journalists in the capital heard drones buzzing over Kyiv and explosions ringing out as Ukrainian air defence systems fended off the attack. President Donald Trump said he had made no progress with Vladimir Putin on ending the war in a call, as the Kremlin insisted Russia would pursue its war aims. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the air alerts had begun echoing out across the country as reports of the presidents' call emerged. "Yet again, Russia is showing it has no intention of ending the war and terror," Zelensky said on social media. "All of this is clear evidence that without truly large-scale pressure, Russia will not change its dumb, destructive behaviour," he added, urging the United States in particular to ramp up pressure on Moscow. He said that 23 people were wounded in the Russian barrage that the air force said included 539 Russian drones of various types and 11 missiles. A representative of Ukraine's air force told Ukrainian media that the attack was the largest of the Russian invasion. 'Complete disregard' Overnight Russia attacks have escalated over recent weeks. An AFP tally shows Moscow launched a record number of drones and missiles at Ukraine in June, as direct peace talks between Kyiv and Moscow appeared to stall. "Putin clearly shows his complete disregard for the United States and everyone who has called for an end to the war," Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga wrote on social media after the attack. In Kyiv, AFP journalists saw dozens of residents of the capital taking shelter in a metro station. Russian attacks escalated as concerns mount in Kyiv over continued delivery of US military aid, which is key to Ukraine's ability to fend off the drone and missile barrages. The US announced this week that it was reducing some deliveries of military aid to Ukraine, in what EU chief Ursula von der Leyen said was a clear signal that the bloc needed to "step up".
