Murder investigation launched after 85-year-old man found dead in London
Officers were called at around 1pm on Friday to an address in Churchmore Road, in Streatham, south London, following reports a male had sustained a number of injuries.
Emergency services personnel tried to save his life but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
He is yet to be formally identified.
A 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
A post-mortem examination is due to take place soon.
The officer leading the inquiry, Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, said anyone with information is asked to get in touch.
She said: "We are working hard to piece together the events that unfolded in Churchmore Road yesterday, and offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim and those affected by this tragic incident.
"I would like to thank... those that are speaking to police and supporting the investigation already. We will continue to have an increased presence in the area whilst we continue our enquiries.
"We are not currently looking for any other suspects."

Cop car hits pedestrian in Red Light area
Police officers responding to an incident in Sydney's CBD have struck a pedestrian en route in Kings Cross, sparking an internal investigation. The hit happened about 3.10am on Saturday morning after emergency services were called to reports of a brawl in the city. Cyclist dies in horror Taronga Zoo bus crash
A cyclist has died after colliding with a bus at Sydney's Taronga Zoo on Sunday. The crash happened about 10.35am, with emergency services called to the world-famous zoo on Bradleys Head Road in Mosman. 'The cyclist, a man in his 50s, died at the scene,' the police said. 'The bus driver was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing. 'The four passengers on board the bus at the time were uninjured.' The deceased man has yet to be formally identified. Officers with the North Shore Police Area Command have established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit. Traffic diversions are now in place at the police have urged motorists to avoid the area. LiveTraffic states that no buses are operating from the Taronga Zoo Wharf to the top zoo entrance. 'Access the Zoo and carpark via the staff entrance at the corner of Whiting beach Road and Prince Albert street,' the website states.
