Apple expands Audio Mix feature beyond Photos App with iOS 26
California: With the upcoming iOS 26 update, Apple is set to revolutionise the way users edit audio in videos on their iPhone 16 models.
According to Mac Rumours, the tech giant is expanding its innovative Audio Mix feature, powered by machine learning, beyond the Photos app to third-party applications.
Audio Mix offers four primary options for editing audio in videos:
Standard: Plays the original audio recorded.
In-Frame: Reduces sounds and voices from sources not visible in the video frame.
Studio: Minimises background sounds and reverb, creating a professional studio-like effect.
Cinematic: Places voices on a front-facing track and environmental noises in surround, similar to movie audio.
With iOS 26, Apple is introducing additional Audio Mix options for background noise.
To utilise this feature, videos must be recorded with Spatial Audio, which is automatically enabled on all iPhone 16 models when recording video.
Users can adjust this setting in the Camera section of the Settings app.
The introduction of Audio Mix in third-party apps will significantly enhance the audio editing capabilities of these applications.
Developers can now leverage Apple's machine learning-powered Audio Mix technology to provide users with more advanced audio editing tools.
In addition to iOS 26, Apple is also bringing Audio Mix controls to third-party Mac apps with macOS Tahoe.
This move will enable Mac users to enjoy the same advanced audio editing capabilities as iPhone users.
Apple is also enhancing audio-only apps like Voice Memos by allowing them to save audio in the QuickTime audio format QTA.

She also documented student hardware and experiments for the Saudi Space Agency's Microgravity Challenge, which saw over 80,000 submissions from students across the Arab world. Pilot Group Captain Shubhanshu "Shux" Shukla focused on the space microalgae experiment by deploying sample bags and imaging algae strains that may become future food sources on long-duration missions. The crew also collected data for the Neuro Motion VR project, where astronauts perform cognitive tasks using VR headsets while their brain activity is monitored, providing insight into how microgravity affects mental and motor functions. Additionally, data was gathered for the Telemetric Health AI study, which combines biometric data with mission analytics to study spaceflight's impact on cardiovascular and balance systems. DeepSeek faces ban from Apple, Google app stores in Germany
FRANKFURT: Germany's data protection commissioner has asked Apple and Google to remove Chinese AI startup DeepSeek from their app stores in the country due to concerns about data protection, following a similar crackdown elsewhere. Commissioner Meike Kamp said in a statement on Friday that she had made the request because DeepSeek illegally transfers users' personal data to China. The two US tech giants must now review the request promptly and decide whether to block the app in Germany, she added, though her office has not set a precise timeframe. DeepSeek did not respond to a request for comment. Apple and Google were not immediately available for comment. According to its own privacy policy, DeepSeek stores numerous pieces of personal data, such as requests to its AI programme or uploaded files, on computers in China. "DeepSeek has not been able to provide my agency with convincing evidence that German users' data is protected in China to a level equivalent to that in the European Union," Kamp said. "Chinese authorities have far-reaching access rights to personal data within the sphere of influence of Chinese companies," she added. The commissioner said she took the decision after asking DeepSeek in May to meet the requirements for non-EU data transfers or else voluntarily withdraw its app. DeepSeek did not comply with this request, she added. DeepSeek shook the technology world in January with claims that it had developed an AI model to rival those from US firms such as ChatGPT creator OpenAI at much lower cost. However, it has come under scrutiny in the United States and Europe for its data security policies. Italy blocked it from app stores there earlier this year, citing a lack of information on its use of personal data, while the Netherlands has banned it on government devices. Belgium has recommended government officials not to use DeepSeek. "Further analyses are underway to evaluate the approach to be followed," a government spokesperson said. In Spain, the consumer rights group OCU asked the government's data protection agency in February to investigate threats likely posed by DeepSeek, though no ban has come into force. US lawmakers plan to introduce a bill that would ban US executive agencies from using any AI models developed in China. Microsoft shuts down iconic 'Blue Screen of Death'
Microsoft is killing its infamous "Blue Screen of Death" after over four decades. The notorious error message will soon be set against a black background. The technology giant made the announcement in a blog post on Thursday as it outlined wider measures to improve the resilience of the Windows operating system. "Now it's easier than ever to navigate unexpected restarts and recover faster," the company wrote. The efforts by Microsoft come in light of the 2024 Crowdstike incident which led to a mammoth IT outage, crashing millions of Windows systems across the globe. What's new? The "Blue Screen of Death" or Blue Screen error was displayed if a serious problem caused Windows to shut down or restart unexpectedly to prevent data loss. The company said it is "streamlining" what users experience when confronted with "unexpected restarts" that lead to disruptions. The steps entail revamping the error screen that greeted users — often frustratingly so — for more than 40 years. The new error message has a much more condensed text displayed across a black backdrop. "Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart," it will read, according to an image shared by Microsoft in its blog. The error message is no longer accompanied by a sad face icon and instead shows a percentage completed for the restart process. The software company said that this "simplified" user interface for unexpected restarts will be available from later this summer on all of its Windows 11 (version 24H2) devices.
