Cape Cod restaurants: See what's new since last year on the Cape and Islands
New Cape Cod restaurants since last summer? How about three ramen shops, a boho Mexican kitchen in Chatham's old Cumberland Farms, new owners and a new name for Kate's Seafood in Brewster, and a self-serve wine bar at Mashpee Commons - just to name a few?
With Memorial Day weekend upon us, it is time to welcome visitors back to Cape Cod and the Islands with news of new restaurants that have opened in the last year.
In food news about new accolades for restaurants you may already know and love, USA Today named The Rooftop at Pelham House Resort in Dennis Port as one of the best restaurants in the country, while Sesuit Harbor Cafe in Dennis came in first when Cape Cod Times readers voted in a March Madness-inspired bracket. The Cape Cod Times also named 10 other restaurants we wish had made the USA Today list.
Here is a brief introduction of new restaurants on Cape Cod since last summer.
If you are a noodle fan, you are in luck: Tiger Ramen opened in Falmouth, Namazu Ramen is now in Chatham and Ukiyo Cape Cod took over the Brewster space formerly occupied by Fare & Just Kitchen. (Former owner Peter Duff is now cooking his vegan dishes at the Family Table Collaborative in Yarmouth.)
Codo Mexican Kitchen opened on Main Street in Chatham.
'It's kind of a play on words cause when you meet someone from Chatham and ask where on the Cape they're from, they bend up their arm and point to their elbow. Codo means elbow in Spanish,' said Michael Martir, chief operating officer of Coastal Cuisine, the hospitality group that owns the new Codo Mexican Kitchen, as well as Pate's and Chatham Cut in Chatham, Chapin's Bayside on Taunton Avenue in Dennis, The Doghouse and One-Stop Market in Dennis Port.
After 39 years as Kate's Seafood, the popular fish stand run by John and Kathy Ohman at 284 Paines Creek Road in Brewster has new owners and a new name: The Cape House is now owned and run by Robert and Izabelle Crisanti, who say they are keeping the fried fish and scooped ice cream menu for now.
J. Bar, a healthy seasonal stop in Harwich Port for the past decade, opened its doors April 4 to a second location in the Shops at 400 Main in Chatham.
The Wharf Falmouth, formerly Soprano's Casino by the Sea, has the same owners but a new name and new menu crafted by Chef Gavin Tyson who is focusing on 'French-based by the sea Marseille-styled dishes,' he said on Facebook. The restaurant at 286 Grand Ave. in Falmouth Heights offers spectacular water views.
The Daily Brew purchased Silver Lounge in North Falmouth and held a yard sale of memorabilia from the 87-year-old restaurant – although word is the caboose was not for sale. The popular coffee house and cafe closed its doors in Cataumet on May 11. No word yet on when the new location will open.
Cymbals Cafe @ The Faraway Nantucket Hotel is open, with house-made doughnuts and Partners Coffee from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesdays through Sundays. You don't have to be a hotel guest to enjoy coffee and doughnuts in the courtyard.
Uva, the self-service wine bar that opened in downtown Plymouth in 2019, opened a second location in Mashpee Commons this past January. Just this month, they added a boutique-style shop next door so people can take home wines they enjoyed at the tasting bar.
In Dennis, Erica and Adam Dunn, owners of Pheasant Restaurant and Dunn & Sons Wine, are opening Baleine Wine Bar Cape Cod (from the French word for whale) in the space occupied for decades by Harvest Gallery Wine Bar, which permanently closed.
Also, theater fans can style the best afternoon or evening out with the help of Cape Cod Times' Dinner & a Show, a feature in which we introduce a local theater production and recommend two nearby restaurants to try.

Apple gets much-needed win as 'F1' speeds to big opening weekend
Apple's Formula One-inspired film went full-throttle this weekend at the domestic box office. " F1" has earned over $55 million domestically since debuting in theaters on Friday, according to Warner Bros. The sports drama, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, managed to beat out Universal Pictures' live-action remake of " How to Train Your Dragon" and Disney's " Elio" to place first at the box office. Overseas, "F1" raked in over $88 million for a total of $144 million globally. This weekend's numbers are a victory for Apple, which heavily promoted the film and its stars ahead of the premiere. iPhone users received a notification offering discounted tickets, could use Apple Maps to view the race tracks where the crew filmed, and gained access to a special version of the trailer that activated the iPhone's haptics to match the vehicle's engines onscreen. Idris briefly donned a F1 driver uniform at the 2025 Met Gala in May, while Pitt made a surprise appearance at a New York City-based Apple store this month. While Apple is one of the world's most influential tech giants, original film production is a newer division for the company, meaning it's still catching up to major studios like Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, and Walt Disney Studios. Films like "Killer of the Flower Moon" in 2023 helped bolster the studio's clout but haven't done much for its bottom line. Apple's streaming service, meanwhile, has also had some hits recently with Seth Rogen's "The Studio" and the dystopian workplace drama "Severance." It still lags far behind streamers like Netflix, however. Business Insider's Peter Kafka has wondered aloud about Apple's long-term strategy for its theatrical releases. Is it an expensive marketing play that could ultimately bolster its core business: iPhones? Or is this an effort to diversify as iPhone sales plateau? Or something else entirely? Apple's latest film came after its annual Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this month. Although the company unveiled its new "Liquid Glass" software, Wall Street analysts were left underwhelmed that no "killer" AI feature was offered. After the lackluster conference, the success of "F1" will likely come as a relief to Apple insiders. "I know there's a lot of different views out there about why we're into it," Apple CEO Tim Cook told Variety earlier this month, referencing the company's movie business. "We're into it to tell great stories, and we want it to be a great business as well. That's why we're into it, just plain and simple."

The reality show follows a group of TikTok influencer moms and their Mormon friend group as they navigate relationships, careers and religion on the heels of a scandal around "soft swinging" − couples sharing partners with limited sexual contact. The show's second season aired in May after the inaugural batch of episodes were released last year. Hulu previously confirmed to USA TODAY that more episodes are on the way later this year. However, the streaming service also announced earlier in June that the show will have its first reunion special following Season 2. Here's who will be in attendance at the reunion, according to photos released by Hulu: Did Demi Engemann go to the 'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' reunion? One member of #MomTok was notably absent from the promotions of "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" reunion. Demi Engemann, who ended Season 2 with several unsettled conflicts with her fellow castmates, appeared to skip out on filming for the episode. In an Instagram story posted on June 9, Engemann said she was invited to the reunion but filming was on "short notice" and she had a scheduling conflict. "I tried to have production move it to another day and they couldn't swing it sadly," she wrote in the Instagram story. However, a Hulu spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY that Engemann will be part of the reunion, though it's unclear in what capacity. She was also briefly shown in the reunion trailer. Dick Van Dyke drops out of event for health: 'Today is not a good day'
Dick Van Dyke was forced to drop out of a public appearance this weekend amid a "bad" day for the 99-year-old Hollywood legend. On Saturday, June 28, the "Mary Poppins" star's wife, Arlene Silver, took the stage at Vandy Camp, his comedy event and fan gathering, to inform attendees that Van Dyke was "not up to" attending as planned. "I'm sorry," she said. "When you're 99-and-a-half years old, you have good days and bad days, and when you're 40 years old, you have good days and bad days. Unfortunately, today is not a good day for him, and he's sick that he can't be here." USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Van Dyke. Vandy Camp is described as a "celebration" featuring Van Dyke, Silver and their musical group The Vantastix. The event honors the actor's "passion for comedy, vaudeville and the circus." The third iteration was streamed online, and Silver told the crowd that Van Dyke would be tuning in from home. During a Q&A portion, she asked fans in the audience to "tell Dick, who's watching, what he means to you." Directly addressing him, one attendee said, "We all are very inspired by you and what you do," while another added, "Get well soon, Dick." Silver also said she was "pretty confident" that Van Dyke would return to attend the next Vandy Camp event.
