The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, is inviting applications for its MRes Mathematical Sciences course starting in September 2025. The MRes in Mathematical Sciences is an advanced research-focused Master's degree that students can complete in one year full-time. With an aim to help students advance their research skills through undertaking an original, extended research project supervised by expert staff, as stated in the press release.
Students will acquire skills enabling them to navigate a successful career in research, within or outside academia. The programme would be of particular interest to students who are considering PhD studies or a position focusing on Research & Development in a company or research institute in the future.
–A first-class or upper second-class UK Honours degree, or overseas equivalent, in a mathematical sciences-related subject.
–English language minimum score of 6.5 (with no component below 5.5).
The international annual fee for 2025- 26 is £23,100, which is Rs 27,03,508.50. The Faculty of Science is also providing an international scholarship for MRes Mathematical Sciences of £5,000 that is available for September 2025 entry. There are a few terms and conditions for the scholarship:
–The Faculty of Science International Scholarship for the MRes in Mathematical Sciences is valued at £5,000, which will be deducted from your tuition fees.
–To qualify for the scholarship, recipients must enrol in the MRes in Mathematical Sciences in September 2025 and continue to meet all eligibility criteria.
–The scholarship cannot be deferred or transferred to any other entry dates.
–No separate application for the scholarship is required. All students who meet the eligibility criteria will automatically receive the scholarship.
–Students are only eligible for one scholarship per academic year from the University of Strathclyde.
–Those who do not meet all eligibility criteria will not be considered for this scholarship.
–The Faculty of Science's decision regarding the awarding of scholarships is final, and appeals will not be accepted.
Students can apply for the scholarship till September 30 and will be applied to the tuition fees only. Candidates who receive full sponsorship from a government office or embassy are not eligible for these scholarships, according to the official website.

Vijayawada: Aiming to make Amaravati the 'quantum gateway' of the country, Andhra Pradesh govt passed a declaration and the same was adopted by the participants at the Amaravati quantum valley (AQV) workshop held on Monday. The declaration outlined specific targets and timelines to meet in the next four years. The declaration has proposed to establish a global quantum collaboration council (GQCC), in partnership with national quantum mission (NQM), in Amaravati to harmonise international standards, pursue joint R&D, and promote trusted supply networks. The declaration also proposed to establish a multi-stakeholder Amaravati quantum valley mission board (AQVMB) with multiple working groups to identify the use cases of quantum in different sectors. It has been resolved to convene the annual 'World Quantum Expo' in Amaravati starting 2026. AQV will spearhead the creation of a national startup forum with VC-backed milestone-based funding and mentorship. A dedicated Rs 1,000 crore quantum fund and access to living-lab infrastructure will support at least 20 quantum hardware and software startups in the next year and 100 by 2030. Startups will also benefit from regulatory sandboxes. AQV aims to attract a minimum of $500 million quantum technology investments by Jan 1, 2027 with a target of $1 billion by Jan 1, 2029 in areas such as computing, chips, sensing, and communications. India's largest open quantum testbed, QchipIN, would be established by AQV within 12 months. This will integrate quantum computers, QKD fiber links, and deployable sensor platforms to enable pilots across sectors like health-tech, BFSI, logistics, defense, and space. QChipIN will provide end-to-end access to quantum hardware, algorithms, tools, and expert support. AQV will also anchor domestic production of Qubit platforms, cryo-electronics, photonic packages, quantum chips, quantum dots, quantum readout hardware like single photon detector, homodyne detector, and control systems, targeting Rs 5,000 crore annual exports by 2030. AQV will also establish India's first integrated quantum skilling ecosystem.

The first satellite is scheduled for launch in April next year, and the deployment of all 52 satellites is expected to be completed by 2029. The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately Rs. 27,000 crore. The effectiveness of satellite data in modern warfare was already demonstrated by India during Operation Sindoor, where Indian forces carried out pinpoint strikes on the headquarters of terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeT) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) using intelligence gathered through human resources and satellite surveillance. The operation was so impactful that Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif admitted that the Pakistani Army was only able to endure the Indian offensive because of satellite data provided by China. In an interview, Asif had acknowledged, "During Operation Sindoor, our army received satellite data from China, which helped us withstand Indian attacks. China, being a friendly nation, supported us by providing satellite-based intelligence." Today, satellites are no longer limited to surveillance and data collection. They now play a crucial role in guiding long-range missiles to precise targets. This is why all major global powers are investing heavily in military-grade satellite systems. A comparative look at military satellites shows: - The United States leads with 247 military satellites in orbit. - China follows with 157 satellites. - Russia holds third place with 110 military satellites. - Currently, India has 9 military satellites, placing it seventh globally, but once the 52-satellite plan is complete, India's space capability could become like that of superpowers like Russia. The strategic significance of military presence in space has been echoed by India's first Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, who stressed the urgent need for India to strengthen its cyber and space warfare capabilities. Announcing the results, state minister for science, technology and technical education, Sumit Kumar Singh, said the timely release of the BTech 8th semester results demonstrated BEU's commitment to academic discipline and transparency. "This is a proud moment for Bihar. In a short span of time, technical education here has expanded from diploma to MTech and PhD levels," he said. Highlighting the state's nominal tuition fees — Rs 5 per month for diploma and ₹10 for BTech students — he added, "Bihar is nurturing tomorrow's engineers and researchers in the best possible way." The minister added that students are progressing to premier institutes like IITs and NITs, with many securing placements in reputed organisations. He praised the university's policy of reserving one-third of its seats for female students, saying it promotes women's empowerment.
