
Sabah GOF seizes over RM200mil worth of smuggled goods in first six months of 2025
Sabah GOF brigade commander Senior Asst Comm Datuk Abdul Rani Alias added that they also arrested 487 individuals during the same period.
The arrests and seizures, he explained, were made through a series of coordinated operations conducted, including Ops Taring ESSZONE/Daratan, Ops Kontraban, Ops Bersepadu Khazanah, Ops Hazard (e-waste), and various road checkpoint inspections (RCP).
He attributed these achievements to the strong collaboration between multiple battalions, namely BN14 Tawau, BN15 Sandakan, BN16 Kota Kinabalu, BN17 Lahad Datu, BN20 Beluran, BN21 Keningau, and BN22 Kunak, as well as other enforcement agencies.
'A total of 268 raids were conducted over the six-month period, resulting in arrests involving both locals and foreigners.
'Of the total, 282 individuals were foreign nationals from countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, China, Pakistan, and India, detained for various offences,' he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 3).
Among the items seized during these operations were vehicles, frozen food, alcoholic beverages, contraband cigarettes, firearms, e-waste, and crude palm oil (CPO).
'The highest-value items included vehicles (RM40.8mil), contraband cigarettes (RM40.6mil), e-waste (RM48.8mil), firearms and fireworks (RM20.3mil), frozen food (RM13.1mil), CPO (RM1.9mil), and petrol and diesel (RM361,253),' he said.
He added that operations also succeeded in dismantling several smuggling syndicates involved in the illegal trade of cigarettes, diesel, petrol, uncertified halal frozen meat and chicken,

KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) 9th battalion has seized 2,600 electronic cigarette devices worth about RM520,000 from an illegal base in Tengkorak near Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat. "Further inspection revealed a large quantity of e-cigarettes hidden in the vehicle. GOF seizes RM250,000 worth of laterite soil illegally extracted in Kedah
SUNGAI PETANI: The General Operations Force (GOF) has seized 38 tonnes of laterite soil worth RM250,000, believed to have been extracted without approval from the Kedah Land and Mines Office. Northern Brigade GOF commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner Shahrum Hashim, said the operation was carried out yesterday by the intelligence unit of the brigade's headquarters in Ulu Kinta, Perak. Shahrum said two men, aged 43 and 54, suspected of being involved in the illegal activity, were also arrested during the raid to facilitate investigations into the case. "Checks showed that the soil was being transported without authorisation from the relevant authorities. "We seized two lorries carrying a total of 38 tonnes of laterite soil. "The total value of the seizure is estimated at RM250,000. The case is being investigated under the Kedah Land and Mines Director's Circular No. 1/2023," he said. Shahrum added that, if convicted, the entire deposit placed by the quarry operator could be forfeited and handed over to the Kedah state government as revenue. He said the GOF is actively monitoring and patrolling areas in Perak, Penang and Kedah to curb all illegal activities and remains committed to enforcement operations. "We will not compromise in enforcing the law, especially when it involves federal or state revenue. "The public is urged to be our eyes and ears and to report any unlawful activities to the authorities," he said.

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Police seized goods worth more than RM10 million in an integrated operation to combat the smuggling of cigarettes and liquor in Kuching, Sarawak, yesterday. Bukit Aman internal security and public order department director Azmi Abu Kassim said simultaneous raids were conducted at two premises. 'The operation saw the arrest of two local men and an Indonesian man, aged between 30 and 64, and the seizure of contraband worth RM10,500,028,' Bernama reported him as saying. He said the raids were carried out in collaboration with the Sarawak brigade of the General Operations Force. Azmi said authorities seized 648 litres of liquor, 90,000 white cigarettes of various brands, 51,200 kretek cigarettes and a mobile phone at the first location. He said 4,190,000 white cigarettes of various brands, 24,320 kretek cigarettes, a van and a mobile phone were seized in the second raid. Azmi said from Jan 1 to July 2 this year, his department had conducted 155 raids nationwide, resulting in 236 arrests for various smuggling-related offences, with the total value of seizures estimated at RM443.85 million.
