What is the backstory behind Kyrie Irving's beef with fans of the Boston Celtics? For newer fans of the storied franchise who were not yet following the Celtics in the years that the infamously mercurial star played for Boston, the animus against the Australian native might seem a bit much.
But there is more than just a jilted fan base at play here, with the heart and soul of a prior iteration of the Celtics having been traded for a player who then promised he would be back to the team, if the fans would let him. That of course was followed by what was seen by many as a betrayal, and by a few as an understandable move given the context.

The folks behind the "Secret Base" YouTube channel put together a clip taking a look back at that turbulent era of Celtics history and Irving's role in making it such a bumpy ride. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about the Kyrie era in Boston.

Ahead of Sun's return to TD Garden, Governor Healey advocates for bringing a WNBA team to Boston

'This isn't a moment,' Sun president Jennifer Rizzotti told the room. 'This is a movement.' One of that movement's strongest supporters was Governor Maura Healey, who played college basketball at Harvard and professionally in Austria. Knowing personally the doors that sports can open for women, Healey praised the Sun for bringing so many figures from so many corners of sports and business together in the name of women's sports. 'For me as a point guard, the greatest statistic was always the assist,' Healey said. 'The thing I love about basketball is it's a team game. So what you see in this room tonight is people making those connections, networking, assisting one another, lifting one another up, empowering one another, recognizing that this is a team sport. Advertisement 'Establishing greater equality in women's sports — for women, for girls — it's a team effort. And that's what I find really inspiring, seeing powerful women come together in united support for equality and fairness in women's sports. It's great to see.' Related : Advertisement Since Rizzotti was hired in 2021, the Sun expanded their focus to becoming a team that represented all of New England, and during that time their ties to Boston have gotten stronger. Last year, the team used the winnings from their Commissioner's Cup victories to support reproductive health and justice initiatives. For their contribution, Boston-based nonprofit Reproductive Equity Now's honored them in May with the Ellen Paradise Fisher Activism in Action Award. Healey applauded the way the team used its influence beyond basketball. 'I think it shows how synched up they are with the city, the state, with New England,' Healey said. 'Their willingness to use their platform to talk about women's rights, to talk about equality, to talk about equal pay. These are things that, as Bay Staters, we have laws on the books to protect these things. So I appreciate the Sun using their platform to speak to these issues a lot of people in Massachusetts and New England care about.' The on-court product in Boston has also been well received. The Sun sold out the Garden a year ago and were close to doing the same with 24 hours to tipoff. Healey said the excitement level around the game was a sign of Boston's appetite for women's sports. 'There's a huge fan base here in Boston for the Sun, for the WNBA,' Healey said. 'People have been talking about it for months now. This is the hardest ticket to get — and I'm saying that in the context of this being a pretty big sports town. Advertisement 'It just speaks to the level of enthusiasm for the women's game, which is only growing and growing exponentially. I love to see the growth in the WNBA. We love to support the Sun as New Englanders. We'd love to see them come back here and play any time.' Related : The WNBA is in a growth stage, expanding to 13 teams this season with the addition of the Golden State Valkyries. Toronto and Portland will join the league next season while franchises in Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia will bring the total number of teams to 18 by 2030. The Meanwhile, Healey continued to throw her full support of bringing women's basketball to Boston. 'I want to do everything I can to advocate for a team here in Boston,' she said. 'Boston, we are a major sports town known all over the globe as a sports hub. We certainly should have a team here. There's a ton of support, there's a ton of enthusiasm.' "Dude Keeps Lying To Himself": NBA Fans Troll Paul Pierce For Disagreeing With LeBron James About Kevin Durant's Scoring Skills

"Dude Keeps Lying To Himself": NBA Fans Troll Paul Pierce For Disagreeing With LeBron James About Kevin Durant's Scoring Skills originally appeared on Fadeaway World. LeBron James and Kevin Durant recently went viral after James released the 'Mind the Game' podcast episode with Durant's appearance. In this podcast episode, they discussed several aspects of the NBA, like the evolution of basketball and Durant's time in 2012 with the current reigning NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Advertisement At the beginning of the episode, James called Durant arguably the "most equipped" scorer in NBA history. Paul Pierce, James' former rival who played for the Celtics most of his career, seemed to disagree with him about this. He went on Fox Sports' "Speak" show and expressed his opinion about what James said. Most NBA fans did not agree with Pierce and let their opinions be heard on social media. "He's not even a top 50 scorer of all time." "Paul Pierce was also a better shooter than Curry, a better post player than Hakeem, a better defender than Rodman, and a better player than LeBron, Kobe, and MJ combined. Oh, and he could beat Usain Bolt in a 100m and Phelps in the 200m butterfly. Did I miss anything?" said an NBA fan who indirectly accused Pierce of hyper-inflating his own skills while comparing anyone to himself. "This dude thinks he's better than D Wade." Advertisement "Paul Pierce gotta stop this sh** man." Several such reactions flooded social media after Pierce made his claim on TV. Fans could not believe that Pierce felt this way about his abilities. "I want whatever he's smoking lmaoo" "Paul Pierce also thinks he was the best shooter, best distributor, and best role guy in the history of the NBA. LOL Come on man..." "Can someone please drug test Paul Pierce?" "This dude keeps lying to himself lol" "For a guy nicknamed The Truth, he sure does f**king lie a lot." What Did Paul Pierce Say About Kevin Durant? During the episode, James referred to Durant as the "most equipped" scorer in NBA history. Pierce took this comment personally and claimed he also belongs in the same conversation as Kevin Durant in terms of 'pure-scoring'. Advertisement "I was probably the best pure scorer in the history of the game, because I was pretty equipped. I'm just saying, I need to be in this conversation... I must've been one of the most equipped." "I think when he talks about him, he talks about efficiency. Cause I shot more bad shots than Kevin... but Kevin, because he's seven feet, he can get his shot off on anybody. He doesn't really see defense, you know what I'm saying? That's why he's so efficient; there's nobody at his height on the perimeter. He changed the way you look at perimeter; he pretty much changed the game on the perimeter. Like being a seven-foot two-guard?" "Like, come on, the biggest two-guard when I came in was 6'5 or 6'6... he's a center playing at the point guard, two-guard. All his match-ups and the way he shoots the ball and gets to the hole, he is efficient with it. So I can see why LeBron would say that, but you got to put me in that talk when you talk about the most-equipped scorers, man." Never once in his career did Pierce win the NBA scoring title. Meanwhile, Durant has four of them (2010-12, 2014), which is tied for third all-time in most scoring titles after Michael Jordan (10) and Wilt Chamberlain (7). Only Allen Iverson and George Gervin are the two players who have as many scoring titles as Durant. Advertisement James and Pierce were fierce rivals when Pierce was still in the league. They faced each other in 69 games, 39 in the regular season and 30 in the Playoffs. While Pierce led the regular season battle 21-18, James led the Playoff record 17-13. With 35 wins over Pierce's 34, James won the matchup purely in terms of games played. James also had a rivalry with Durant during his Warriors stint, especially. They faced each other 43 times in their career, where James won the regular season series (19-10) but Durant won in the playoff series (9-5). Since James has seen both these players and faced them at the highest level, his opinion seems to be more all-encompassing and is not biased in any manner. I agree with James that Durant is the 'most-equipped' scorer, probably in NBA history.
