HYDERABAD: What should a farmer do if he gets spurious seeds and incurs crop loss, or if he does not receive a pattadar passbook for his land, or if there are mistakes in the land records?
Many farmers either lack knowledge of various Acts pertaining to spurious seeds, fertilisers, and pesticides, as well as the newly launched Bhu Bharati Act, or they do not know how to, and whom they should approach for their grievances.
The Legal Empowerment and Assistance for Farmers Society (LEAP), founded by land laws expert Sunil Kumar along with others, kicked off a yatra called 'Sahu Nyaya Yatra' with the objective of enlightening farmers on laws and rules pertaining to land, seeds, and water.

Mega parents-teachers meet on July 10

Nandyal: In a bid to strengthen school education and student development, Nandyal District Collector G Raja Kumari announced that a Mega Parents-Teachers Meeting will be held on July 10 across all government and private schools and junior colleges in the district. For the first time, this initiative will also include private institutions. The Collector urged parents, public representatives, officials, and the general public to actively participate in these meetings to discuss the academic progress and holistic development of students. Speaking at a meeting on Saturday, she said the meeting will be conducted in 1,959 schools, including 1,336 government and 619 private schools, as well as in 134 junior colleges—comprising government, KGBV, model schools, tribal, social welfare, BC hostels, and private institutions. During the sessions, parents will receive their children's progress reports, health status, and updates on the 'Talli Ki Vandanam' financial assistance programme. Teachers will engage with parents to discuss students' academic performance, co-curricular participation, and overall growth. Video presentations, sports activities, and interactive discussions are planned to make the meetings meaningful and inclusive. As part of the Green Passport initiative, students registered through the LEAP app will be gifted saplings, which they will plant under the campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam'—a tree in their mother's name. To ensure smooth execution of the event, a special officer has been appointed for each school. Public representatives, including district ministers, will also be invited to join the mid-day meal program under the Dokka Seethamma Scheme, along with students and their parents. Further, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Mitra Kits will be distributed to students. A control room under the Joint Collector's supervision has been established at the District Collectorate to oversee the entire event.

Gas leak sparks panic in city, no casualties reported

Ranchi: Panic gripped the Anantpur locality on Wednesday morning after two domestic piped natural gas (PNG) pipelines, laid by GAIL India, were damaged during drain excavation work in nearby Niwaranpur. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The incident led to a gas leak, prompting residents and shopkeepers to flee. "The pipeline was hit during service lane excavation work. GAIL and residents were alerted," said Sunil Kumar, urban development and housing department secretary. "The smell was strong, and someone shouted that it was gas. I switched off all electrical appliances and rushed my children outside," said Poonam Devi, a resident of Anantpur Road. Shopkeeper Rajesh Prasad added, "People were shouting and running, and many traders downed their shutters." "The leak occurred during drain excavation work, when a mechanical digger hit two gas lines lying about 1 metre deep. There was a warning sign installed, but in the rush of construction, it was likely ignored," said Mahesh Toppo, a resident. GAIL engineers rushed to the site, and the gas supply in the area was suspended. Firefighters and technical teams were deployed. The gas, under less than 2.6 millibar pressure, dispersed in the open air. "This was a low-pressure pipeline meant for households. Due to its open location and minimal pressure, the leaked gas dissolved into the atmosphere. The repair has begun, and supply will resume only after full safety checks," said Prashant Singh, deputy general manager, GAIL India. Ranchi currently has over 10,000 households connected to PNG, with plans to add 37000 more within a year. A 650 km network of pipeline spans areas like Tupudana, Doranda, Morabadi, Kanke, Singhmore, Jhiri, Nayasarai, and Daladali. Gas is transmitted from JHBDPL at 65- 90 kg/cm², enters Ranchi at 19- 21 kg/cm², via a City Gate Station (CGS) on the city's outskirts. and reaches homes at a safe 20 millibars via DRS
