Rare Hulk stretch toy to go under the hammer this month
Excalibur Auctions said the toy is one of only 30 known examples of the original Hulk stretch figure from 1979 known to still exist.
It was produced by renowned toy-maker Denys Fisher (1918-2002) and comes directly from its original owner, who begged his mother for one as a child.
She knew someone who worked for Denys Fisher and was able to purchase one of the first off the production line.
The toy will go under the hammer later this month and is expected to sell for up to £5,000.
It comes with its original packaging which bears a handwritten 'number one' on the flap of the box, and is described as being in 'mint' condition having been kept out of the light and upright over the years.
Jonathan Torode, from Excalibur Auctions, said: 'We are thrilled to be able to offer the opportunity to acquire one of the rarest stretch toys in existence.
'Having never been offered on the market before and to be in such good condition and with excellent provenance, renders this the ultimate for collectors.
'We therefore anticipate world-wide interest.'
The Hulk figure was manufactured in Thorp Arch, Wetherby, and was sold in limited quantities only in the UK, through select mail-order catalogues and a handful of shops.
It was originally part of Kenner's 'Stretch Armstrong' line and was later licensed under Denys Fisher in the UK.
Toy maker Fisher, who developed the spirograph, grew up in the Leeds area and later lived in Dumfries and Cumbria.
The Hulk stretch figure was filled with corn syrup to enable it to stretch and was made using the same latex and gel moulds as those used for the Stretch Armstrong figure.
However, its green skin colouring, the Hulk head and the Marvel branding set it apart from the Stretch Armstrong toy.
Excalibur Auctions, which is based in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, said the Hulk figure comes with its original instructions and has never been offered for sale since it was bought in 1979.
The vibrant yellow packaging has not faded and the original chalk dust on the figure's surface means that it was never shaken off (or played with) post-production, the auction house said.
The figure is still pliable and there is said to be no degradation of the latex 'skin'.
The figure will be offered in the Excalibur Auctions Vintage Toys Diecast Models & Model Railways auction on July 26 with an estimate of £3,000-£5,000.

Some of the stars' earning may be lower than fans expect The salaries for the cast of the new Superman film have apparently been revealed and the highest earner may not be the one who fans think. Its release becomes the first in the newly rebooted cinematic universe from DC Studios. Now under the stewardship of James Gunn, who serves as writer and director for the latest release. Gunn is known and celebrated on his work on the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy for Marvel and it is hoped he can work similar magic for DC's library of characters. The cast sees a brand new actor take on the pressure of becoming not only Clark Kent but also the Man of Steel. Joining him are a whole host of new faces as the hero's allies and adversaries. 'Piping saved my life - now I create music inspired by my journey'
An Angus teenager who credits the bagpipes with saving her life has now composed her very own album. Katie Robertson, from Carnoustie, who is known as The Wheeled Piper, has chronic health conditions and uses a wheelchair. She first picked up the pipes in 2021, and the instrument has slowly taken over her life. The 18-year-old began busking on the streets of Dundee and has thousands of followers on her social media channels. 'I first picked up the pipes in May 2021, and I didn't have a clue how much it would change my life,' said Katie, who has curves in her spine from scoliosis, arthritis in her hands and lives in chronic pain. 'They (bagpipes) got me through spinal surgery that I underwent a few months later, and they saved my life when I neared organ failure just a wee while ago.' STV News Katie Robertson, 18, says piping has changed her life It was after a performance at a village hall with acclaimed piper Ross Ainslie, who encouraged Katie to compose her own album, that the journey of making her own music began. To achieve her dream of recording her self-penned music she needs to raise funds to the tune of £20,000. She is three-quarters of the way to reaching her target on GoFundMe. The misfortune of falling ill with Covid sparked a creative flair for writing her own tunes. 'I could suddenly just come out with these new original phrases of music that I would keep on adding to them and adding to them, and it would just evolve into fully fledged tunes,' said Katie. 'Once I had one tune, I would write another tune to go with it and then another one to go with that, and I soon realised these tunes weren't just compositions that sounded nice for the sake of it, but they were a way of me displaying my innermost emotions.' Titled Symbolism, the album, is the story of Katie's life. While there are no words, the tunes capture the emotion of her health struggles. STV News Katie Robertson has been busking on the streets of Dundee since picking up the bagpipes 'One of the sets, I hope people will be able to hear the uncertainty in it,' explained Katie. 'It was based on when I was in the hospital – I was near organ failure, and it was a really dark time in my life. 'I didn't know if I was going to get better, and I tried to display with the music that chaos – you're just in that eerie silence, you're waiting, you're waiting, and then they come to take you to the theatre.' Due to arthiritis in her hands, Katie is unable to write but created the artwork to accompany the album using an app on her phone. The images reflect the meaning of the music. Any proceeds from future album sales will be ploughed into creating a tune book so other musicians can learn her tunes and find out more about the meaning of the music, the inspiration behind it, and the artwork. 'The eye is the window to the soul and my soul is made up of music. My heart and soul has went into creating music and I wanted to be able to show that.'
