Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter doubles dream over with defeat at Queen's Club

Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter were defeated in the second round of the women's doubles at Queen's Club.
They were beaten 6-2 7-5 by top seeds Lyudmyla Kichenok and Erin Routliffe in the first warm-up tournament ahead of Wimbledon.

The British No1 and 2 formed an unlikely partnership in the first event of the grass-court swing, as the prestigious Queen's hosted female players for the first time.
Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, and Boulter, the British No1, had never played together previously, and their opening match on Monday marked just the second time that Raducanu had played doubles in her professional career.
However, their collaboration in west London was brought to an end by Kichenok and Routliffe, who had beaten the pair's compatriots Sonay Kartal and Jodie Burrage in the opening round.
Raducanu and Boulter started promisingly on Court One, forcing two break point opportunities in the opening game, but ultimately squandering both, and they were subsequently breached themselves in the following game, unable to dash the No1 seeds' break advantage for the remainder of the opening set.

Things went from bad to worse for the Britons, as they were broken once more to concede first blood.
The second set was more closely contested as Raducanu and Boulter were cheered on by the home support, but they were broken to go down 3-1, with Kichenok and Routliffe finally converting a third break point.

The British duo rallied and levelled proceedings at 4-4, breaking to love before holding comfortably, and they carried that momentum into the ninth game, earning four break-point chances yet passing them all up.
That would be their undoing in the end, as they were fatally broken one final time with an hour and 25 minutes on the clock.

The pair's attentions will now turn back to the singles event, where they both progressed into the last 16.
Raducanu beat Spanish qualifier Cristina Bucsa 6-1 6-2 on Tuesday, while Boulter came through in three sets against the tricky Australian Ajla Tomljanovic 7-6(4) 1-6 6-4 on the newly-named Andy Murray Arena.
Heather Watson also progressed into the second round with a straight-sets victory over Yulia Putintseva, but there will be no clean sweep of British ladies in the last 16 after Burrage and Francesca Jones were both beaten.
Kartal was dispensed of in short order as she fell 6-1 6-3 to American contender Amanda Anisimova, bringing her Queen's Club campaign to a prompt close.
Raducanu will face the Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova on Thursday, while Boulter takes on fifth seed Diana Schnaider.

Saints legend says club must start 'afresh' in Championship

Southampton Football Club legend Matt Le Tissier said the club went into last season 'underprepared' before the team were relegated to the Championship in last place. The Saints hero was speaking at MotoFest 2025 in Eastleigh on Saturday afternoon when he was asked about the club's fortunes last season and if they'll bounce back to the Premier League by winning promotion in the next 12 months. Advertisement Asked whether fans should ignore the club's record low top division points tally of 12 points, 'Le God' said: 'We have to talk about last season because it happened, we can't just ignore it. 'I feel like the last few years the recruitment side of things hasn't been to the standard we were used to for the years before that. 'I think that's why we ended up in the position that we ended up in. Hopefully we can start afresh for this season and not have too much of a hangover from last year and go and compete and try and get back in the Premier League. 'If we do that, we have to make sure we're better prepared for next time.' Le Tissier was also joined at MotoFest 2025 by fellow ex-Saints forward James Beattie.

£45m deal solves Liverpool's BIGGEST problem

Liverpool have a gigantic problem in their squad. One £45m deal fixes it, however. Liverpool's summer so far has been all about moving the squad forwards under Arne Slot. They've spent a year seeing how fits in with the ideas and style, now they want to fine-tune things around the head coach. Advertisement But they've also moved to solve upcoming problems. Trent Alexander-Arnold left, so a new right-back had to come in. Jeremie Frimpong is exactly that - problem solved. Andy Robertson is entering the final year of his contract and may move on. Milos Kerkez comes in as his successor and one of the best young players in the Premier League. Mo Salah is now 33 years old and we're almost certainly in the final two years of his time at Liverpool. The club needs someone new to build their attack around and Florian Wirtz is absolutely perfect for it. Another problem is brewing, however. Liverpool aren't sure what the future looks like at centre-back, with Jarell Quansah moving on and Ibrahima Konate facing a very uncertain future. Advertisement The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract and it appears unlikely he'll sign a new one, given his demands. The Reds are set to lose a key defender and the player they hoped would lead the defence after Virgil van Dijk. So what should they do? Marc Guehi is the answer Liverpool reportedly want to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. Like Konate, he's in the final year of his contract there and won't be renewing. It means Palace either sell this summer or lose him for free. That's a complicated one, though, as Chelsea retain a 20 per cent sell-on clause on any sale. Palace, then, won't get the full fee and may see more value in another year of Guehi than any amount they can receive right now. Advertisement The BBC reports that £45m is the going price for Guehi. Now, Liverpool may decide to wait a year and sign him for free and no one could begrudge them that. But simply paying the money to guarantee Guehi would fix their biggest problem right now. They'd get a homegrown talent to replace Quansah - something that's a secondary problem for the squad - and they'd also get that leader to replace Konate. Guehi is a fantastic and accomplished Premier League defender, one who just helped lead Palace to glory for the first time in their history as they won the FA Cup. He's exactly what the Reds are looking for and £45m is a wonderful price for that. Unless, of course, Liverpool feel they can wait. If they're certain Guehi will join in 2026 and can't sell Konate this summer, then waiting it out makes the most sense.
