Mauricio Pochettino Disappointed With USMNT Supporters Despite Gold Cup Triumph
The 2025 Gold Cup has suffered with game attendance, and some may assume it is due to the FIFA Club World Cup becoming a more attractive tournament in the U.S. this summer.

The USMNT is one of the top teams in the Gold Cup, but the stadiums they've played in have left a lot to be desired. The stadium the USMNT has played in during this Gold Cup has not been sold out until the semifinal.
The USMNT took on Guatemala at Energizer Park in St. Louis, Missouri, but the game felt like an away game for Team USA. Mauricio Pochettino was seen impressed with the Guatemala supporters, who were the majority at the Energizer Park.
Despite the win over Guatemala, Pochettino felt disappointed with the USMNT support both in the stadium and throughout the Gold Cup.
Pochettino's Commnets on the USMNT Support
Pochettino praised the Guatemala fans after the USMNT's 2-1 win over Guatemala in the Gold Cup semifinal. The head coach spoke about how USMNT supporters should learn from the passion of Guatemala fans base and others.

Mauricio Pochettino: "Wow. Unbelievable. That is football. That connection (between fans and team) is what we will like at the World Cup. That is culture. What we need to learn in this country."
Doug McIntyre from Fox Sports reports that Pochettino described the atmosphere at the Energizer Park vs Guatemala as an 'away match' and that it is good for his players.
The Gold Cup Final against Mexico is expected to be similar to the semifinal, where the UMSNT will have fewer supporters than the opponent. Mexico's fan base is one of the biggest in world soccer, and their popularity in the U.S. is huge as well.

This perception is backed by attendance statistics for the USMNT games in the Gold Cup this summer have been lower than expected.
USMNT's support in the 2025 Gold Cup
USA vs Trinidad & Tobago - 12,610 attendance (PayPal Park / 18,000 capacity)
USA vs Saudi Arabia - 11,727 attendance (Q2 Stadium / 20,500 capacity)
USA vs Haiti - 20,918 attendance (AT&T Stadium / 80,000 capacity)
USA vs Costa Rica - 32,289 attendance (U.S. Bank Stadium / 73,000 capacity)
Mexico has also failed to bring desirable high attendance rates in their Gold Cup matches, but the numbers are still considerably higher than USMNT games.
Mexico vs Honduras had Levi's Stadium sold out, a stadium with a capacity between 68,500 to 75,000.
The NRG Stadium in Houston has a capacity of 72,200, where Mexico has been close to selling out in the past.
The last time Mexico played at the NRG Stadium was in the 2024 Copa America match against Jamaica. The fan attendance for the game against Jamaica was 53,763.

That number is expected to increase on Sunday as the biggest game of the region is the USA vs Mexico in a Gold Cup Final.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is unhappy with Bucks after Damian Lillard waiver, Brook Lopez departure: "He just didn't like how it was handled"
Giannis Antetokounmpo is unhappy with Bucks after Damian Lillard waiver, Brook Lopez departure: "He just didn't like how it was handled" originally appeared on Basketball Network. The Milwaukee Bucks' sudden decision to waive Damian Lillard and let Brook Lopez walk in free agency hasn't sat well with Giannis Antetokounmpo. According to Chris Haynes, 'The Greek Freak' has taken issue with how the situation was managed, a sentiment that could spell trouble for Milwaukee if tensions linger. Advertisement 'Sources have relayed to me that Giannis Antetokounmpo is not pleased with the Milwaukee Bucks' decision to buy out Damian Lillard for the remainder of his contract,' the NBA insider said on NBA TV. 'He just didn't like how it was handled. This whole offseason, since the season ended, he's been weighing his options and figuring out what he's gonna do, try to navigate the situation.' 'Now, this is one more thing added to the equation, in which he is seeing that there are some suspect things that are happening, or the way that they are happening. So I was told he was not pleased with how it transpired with Damian Lillard,' added Haynes. Lillard waived, Lopez out In a move that's entirely out of left field, the Bucks decided to waive Lillard and stretch the remaining $113 million in his contract across five years. Dame's two-season tenure in Milwaukee was largely disappointing, as the team was eliminated in the first round in the past two playoffs. Advertisement Moreover, the nine-time All-Star suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Game 4 of the series against the Indiana Pacers. The injury will sideline him for most, if not all, of next season. According to Shams Charania, Lillard is in good spirits following his release. ESPN's resident league insider wrote that Dame "welcomed" the move, as it gives him the freedom to rehab near his family in Portland and take his time weighing his next step. Meanwhile, Lopez has already found a new NBA home. The seven-foot big man joins the Los Angeles Clippers in a two-year, $18 million deal after being let go by the Bucks. Lopez had a magnificent seven-year run with the franchise, winning a title in 2021 and being a part of two All-Defensive Teams. Will fans see the "Splash Mountain" down the road in a jersey retirement ceremony? Apparently, Giannis thinks it's a no-brainer. Advertisement Bucks acquire Myles Turner With this sudden turn of events, Milwaukee's front office wasted no time pivoting. The Bucks quickly addressed a need by signing Myles Turner, the long-time Pacers center, to a four-year, $107 million deal. Turner could readily slot into Lopez's role as a defensive-minded, floor-spacing big. As per Shams, the Bucks wouldn't have had the means to secure Turner without letting go of Lillard. Even though the Bucks still owe Lillard about $22.5 million annually for the next five years starting in 2025-26, it's a far smaller cap hit than if his full salary remained on the books. Waiving 'Dame Time' saved them over half the amount that would've counted against the cap! Advertisement Only time will tell how Giannis processes everything. He could decide this was the final straw and demand a trade, setting off a frenzy across the league. Or he might stay, see if the front office can steady the ship, and ride it out one more year. Either way, Milwaukee is officially on the clock.
